If you are looking for a problem with someone, you will convince yourself that they have one

[–]Lets_Jump_This_Jump[!] 5 points6 points ago

Very well put. Too many people are being diagnosed and given prescriptions for things they may not have...or could be treated with a change in diet and/or habits. I've experienced this.

[–]shotgunsinner 6 points7 points ago

so what was the answer?

[–]cnash 16 points17 points ago

I'd have gone with C; he has behaviors that are consistent with OCD or OCPD, but they don't prevent or interfere with a healthy life. He's doing well in school, has a girlfriend, and the question doesn't report any adverse consequences of his behavior. There's no grounds for labeling this a disorder of any kind

[–]perfectblu3 5 points6 points ago

^ C is the correct answer.

Although as a medical student, I must say that this dude is doing pretty well. The fact that he's succeeding in school and has a girlfriend means that his life isn't falling apart.

Having obsessive personality traits is really the only way to succeed in medical school, to be quite honest.

[–]VirgiliusNix 2 points3 points ago

If it ain't broken, it don't need fixin'.

Or something.

The medical student sounds like the sort of person I'd get on with.

The medical student sounds like the sort of person I'd get it on with

It had to be done.

[–]Bunnymancer -2 points-1 points ago

This. In short.

[–]pikasurfer -3 points-2 points ago

how do you have a girlfriend if your like that though "he refuses to go out with his colleagues" This guy sounds like absolutely no fun to be around

[–]jaela 0 points1 point ago

I'm a real live female human currently dating a real live dude with social anxiety. It happens. He's actually loads of fun to be around, he just doesn't want to be around everyone all the time.

[–]GetKenny 1 point2 points ago

F is the only correct answer here

[–]Proxenus 4 points5 points ago

That one hit way too close to home for my liking.

[–]OneFinalEffort 2 points3 points ago

I just about skipped that one. Pissed me off...

[–]AlanRickmansSmile 9 points10 points ago

All wrong. The correct answer is Sheldon Cooper

[–]Icanflyplanes 1 point2 points ago

He has 2 girlfriends, "Left hand", and "Right hand".

[–]Bunnymancer 2 points3 points ago

Sheldon doesn't do those things.

[–]NonnagLava 0 points1 point ago

Yes, he only would for science.

To me, this disorder seems very puts on sunglasses Orderly

YYYYEEEEAAAAHHHHHHHH

[–]EricTheWeirdo 2 points3 points ago

I hate this kind of thing. Modern psychiatric medicine has defined every kind of personality quirk as some kind of disorder. What the hell is wrong with people being a bit weird!?

[–]packattack 5 points6 points ago

Technically you can have a variety of personality traits (e.g. narcissistic, obsessive compulsive), but it isn't actually defined as a disorder unless it is causing subjective distress or impaired functioning.

[–]Epicaq 4 points5 points ago

My experience with any type of doctor is that even if you aren't sick before you go there, you will be when you're done.

Edit! I appreciate the work doctors do, though. This was just an example of how I feel when going there. If you look hard enough, you'll always find something wrong, and traits can always be put into categories.

[–]leedorham 12 points13 points ago

Classic iatrophobe.

[–]Epicaq 1 point2 points ago

Might be, only had I known what that word meant ;-)

[–]shnoog 1 point2 points ago

You go to a doctor when you're not sick?

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points ago

You've never had a physical?

[–]shnoog 1 point2 points ago

No, but good point.

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points ago

You literally never had a physical?

I guess that makes sense for the average Redditor. Never played a sport or care about their health. :/ Never mind, I suck cocks.

[–]shnoog 1 point2 points ago

Wow, that's a bit of a quick judgement don't you think? Actually I've played loads of different sports to a high (or reasonable) level and currently train 5x a week for rowing.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points ago

I have literally never heard of a person that has participated in a sport that wasn't required to get a physical.

[–]shnoog 0 points1 point ago

So I'm lying? Having swum, played rugby at school, played for football (soccer), cricket and 4 different badminton clubs (and briefly a boxing club one summer) I've never been required to get a physical. For the last two years I've rowed for a medical school too and they didn't need me checking out. I live in the UK, must be different here. That said, I had blood pressure and various blood tests when I started uni but I wasn't really including that as it was purely for a specific occupational hazard.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points ago

Must be different for the UK then. For liability and health concerns, pretty much every athlete in the US is required to get a physical every 6 months. I apologize for the rash call-out.

[–]shnoog 0 points1 point ago

Not at all. If that's what you're used to then it's justified to question it! Over here we just fill out a form and sign it and I guess that's enough to cover them legally if you lie about your health. Same for gyms and stuff too (kinda odd now I think of it).

[–]VestaDear 0 points1 point ago

This reminds me of the Bill Cosby bit where he was having bloody poops but he didn't want to go to the doctor because the second you go to the doctor suddenly you're sick.

[–]irrelephant31 3 points4 points ago

You mean he doesn't get blasted and takes med school seriously? WTD what a weirdo

[–]Xsunshinex1986 6 points7 points ago

No kidding. I would rather this guy be my dr than some dude who drank his way through med school

[–]boofire 2 points3 points ago

Wow...The stories I could tell you about some law school students would really burst your bubble then

[–]morgheng 0 points1 point ago

your repost is bad, and you should feel bad

[–]NKarman 0 points1 point ago

Baron's AP psychology book?

[–]cfrey 0 points1 point ago

Luckily, whatever it was, they can sell you a pharmaceutical product for it!

[–]whuubecca 0 points1 point ago

Uhh, if this is a disorder than apparently I am sick.. Pretty much my life, but I am not studying medicine and my husband is studying applied physics.

[–]Schoold -1 points0 points ago

The answer they were probably looking for was Schizoid, or a mild obsessive disorder... The only tip off was he "didnt like to go out with friends", which is yes, perfectly normal, but not typical in the "average" student.

[–]Sozin91 -1 points0 points ago

Anyone have any idea why these links never work for me? Im using chrome with ad blocker if that helps. Just white with a blue "stock photos" link at the bottom.

[–]jaela -1 points0 points ago

Can we stop equating "normal" with "neurotypical"? Saying someone has a mental illness is not an insult. It's just stating a fact about them.

[–]mikejam1958 -2 points-1 points ago

If you wrote in F then you probably could have checked E.
