It kind of makes me NOT want to adopt wind power. I feel bad for those poor towers.

[–]249ba36000029bbe9749 33 points34 points ago

Yeah, they should at least have made them look menacing, or overweight, or ugly, or something. As is it looks like they are slaughtering towers who were guilty of nothing more than just showing up every day doing their jobs.

[–]Iloldalot 8 points9 points ago

terrible add strategy, if you ask me

[–]Sixxtwo 12 points13 points ago

You'd think they'd Ad two and two together.

[–]bartonar 1 point2 points ago

I love the background stories in the second to top comment (gambit775s)

The four tall towers? They were soldiers, defending thier people. They even saluted as they died... The one with a mustache was an immigrant from Italy, trying to start a new live in a cold, economically motivated world.... The first one was divorced and was having tea with his father, while discussing whether he can move back in, and you murdered them all! How dare you!

[–]anexanhume 56 points57 points ago

Spoilers: It's an ad for wind power and worth the watch. Especially the saluting skinny stacks.

[–]jackd90 83 points84 points ago

I gotta stop opening multiple tabs; my thoughts, "what does a Scrubs porno have anything to do with wind power?"

[–]Rum_Pirate_SC 9 points10 points ago

You do that too? LOL aah.. gods.

[–]jackd90 7 points8 points ago

Yea... I read "saluting skinny sacks" and then it hit me.

[–]Rum_Pirate_SC 2 points3 points ago

Like a ton of bricks..

[–]gemini86 2 points3 points ago

[–]ogami1972 0 points1 point ago

HA! I do that all the time...end up with like 30 open tabs...

[–]phlamez92 1 point2 points ago

Well, queef is a renewable, natural resource.

[–]Guboj 0 points1 point ago

Heh, i used to do that too, then i downloaded Reddit's enhancement suite and nothing was the same ever again

[–]digitalsciguy 0 points1 point ago

Enable Reddit toolbar in your settings so you can have context and the original reddit links for every tab you open. This way you can also upvote things after you've seen them and long after they've fallen off your front page. :D

[–]RoflCopter4 17 points18 points ago

I thought nuclear and wind power were on the same side? As long as it's not fossil fuels they should be happy.

[–]Gorignak 24 points25 points ago

These cooling towers aren't necessarily from nuclear plants. Pretty much all power stations have them.

[–]Jokrmein 13 points14 points ago

I can almost guarantee they're from a coal plant.

[–]excited_by_typos 14 points15 points ago

I'm with you. Proof: http://i.imgur.com/ynhCk.png

[–]spazmodic- 1 point2 points ago

Here's a photo of some cooling towers at cottam power station, which is coal fired!

[–]image-fixer 15 points16 points ago

At time of posting, your comment contains a link to a Wikipedia image page. Here is the RES-friendly version: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/4/4a/Cottam_Power_Station_in_2007.jpg

I'm a bot. [Feedback]

[–]spazmodic- 3 points4 points ago

I like you. I weighed the difference between RES-friendly and "clearly-labelled title of photo on wikimedia page" and sadly had to choose the latter because I felt it would stop crusty redditors from being all dahts nawt a cole plaint and such. I am glad there are both options available now!

[–]ctnguy 1 point2 points ago

Indeed. The cooling towers in the OP are from the Athlone Power Station, a fomer coal plant in Cape Town, South Africa.

[–]RoflCopter4 2 points3 points ago

Ah. My mistake.

[–]Jb191 1 point2 points ago

Certainly in the UK nuke plants tend to not need them, as they rely on sea water for their final stage of coolant, instead of steam towers.

[–]bitch_im_a_lion 16 points17 points ago

Isn't it kind of bad advertising making the towers they're knocking down look like innocent beings being killed for the advancement of their company?

[–]5panks 3 points4 points ago

That's kind of how I feel. It's like they tore down these towers that all have faces and personality and they setup borg esque windmills and then at the end even post a message that basically says "Join us"

[–]Epicman 0 points1 point ago

That indeed did make the video worth it for me. I actually laughed out loud.

[–]thewaybaseballgo 9 points10 points ago

It always reminds me of the music video for Coffee and TV by Blur

[–]Pinyaka 6 points7 points ago

[–]YouStupidCunt 9 points10 points ago

[–]Pinyaka 3 points4 points ago

Well, she was raised by my mother.

[–]MrBrawn 1 point2 points ago

hmmm "People:Power" reminds me of "To Serve Man".

[–]Cabana 1 point2 points ago

Way better than the gif

[–]sayrith 1 point2 points ago

these towers are just towers. Nothing more. all they do is cool. the ad is misleading. What if they are connected to nuclear? Nuclear is relatively clean, especially Thorium reactors.

[–]Raicuparta 0 points1 point ago

This isn't really helping, now I just want to keep those poor power plants happy :(

[–]ducttapetricorn 0 points1 point ago

I felt really bad about the mustache tower at the end. :'(

[–]howzer00 0 points1 point ago

With his poor quivering moustache :( He is so scared!

[–]madamimadamimadam 0 points1 point ago

For some reason it makes me really twitchy that you don't see some of the towers completely collapse. They just cut to another one halfway through.

[–]sagivh 0 points1 point ago

thanks for the video, its pretty sad for little Paul the Power plant..

[–]FrankZappasNose 0 points1 point ago

THIS is what I was looking for.. thanks!

[–]responds_in_verse 425 points426 points ago

The plant demolition, though sloppy and rushed,
was completed today at a quarter to three.
But tragedy struck when the mayor was crushed
by a ninety-ton pitcher of Earl Grey tea.

[–]Aleitheo 128 points129 points ago

I'd take out "today" and "Earl Grey" to keep the rhythm going.

[–]Bromazepam 21 points22 points ago

Why would you go 11-10-11-9 when it was set perfectly at 11-12-11-12?

[–]eaglebtc 49 points50 points ago

Because it is better suited to a triplet rhythm (1 2 _3 1 2 _3), and every other line needs an audible break. Observe, with accent markings:

_The plant de _mo li tion, _though slop py _and rushed,
was _com plet ed _at quar ter _to three. (2 _3 1 2)
_But tra ge _dy struck when _the may or _was crushed
by _a nine ty _ton pitch er _of tea.

Plaintext:

The plant demolition, tho' sloppy and rush'd,
Was completed at quarter to three.
But tragedy struck when the mayor was crush'd
By a ninety-ton pitcher of tea.

[–]plasticmouse 20 points21 points ago

My brain!

[–]Veret 4 points5 points ago

I don't see what's wrong with the original. It still has perfect triplets, and the audible break is shorter--(2) instead of (2 _3 1 2).

[–]sirborksalot 33 points34 points ago

"Son, what are you going to do with an degree in English lit?"

"Make sure people on Reddit get told."

[–]Veret 2 points3 points ago

Heh. I switched out of my English major because I couldn't take one more day of Wordsworth and the Victorian-era stoner poets, but your point is completely valid.

[–]fuzzwell 52 points53 points ago

The plant demolition though sloppy and rushed, was completed today at three. But tragedy struck when the mayor was crushed by a ninety-ton pitcher of tea.

[–]Veret 42 points43 points ago

Different meter, but both work. Put two spaces at the end of each line to make it format properly.

EDIT: No, two spaces.
Press the spacebar twice at the end of the line.
Jesus, we need better vocabulary for this stuff.

[–]NestyFlair 94 points95 points ago

Alright, calm down Shakespeare. We're trying our best here.

[–]beeztrain 8 points9 points ago

[–]holyice7 9 points10 points ago

You're not reading it right.

[–]IAMBollock 2 points3 points ago

I've never heard anyone speak like that in me life.

FTFY

[–]blue-yoshi 0 points1 point ago

Good heavens! Perhaps you should make acquaintances with the fine gents down at /r/proper.

[–]A_British_Gentleman 0 points1 point ago

Well, I must say you have made my day good sir!

[–]eyecite 0 points1 point ago

The emotions shown through the flailing arms are tippy-wiffy grandly spiffy! Or whatever you guys say over there.

[–]dumbkid 10 points11 points ago

So the ad makes you sympathise with cooling towers and then replaces them with faceless wind turbines?

[–]quasarj 5 points6 points ago

It was a noble plan, but very poorly executed. I would fire the company that did it, lol.

[–]StewieBanana 28 points29 points ago

That happened way too slowly for me to think that was funny. Now I'm just depressed.

[–]leedorham 24 points25 points ago

I'm sad.

[–]Swazzoo 0 points1 point ago

Because this is the god how much time this gif has been posted? Yeah me too.

[–]anexanhume 33 points34 points ago

Anyone else hear Mr. Bill's voice in their head?

[–]GeneralWarts 22 points23 points ago

"Ohh Nooooo!!"

[–]CompoundClover 12 points13 points ago

Well, I do NOW.

[–]Sr_DingDong 14 points15 points ago

Fake.

The cups never return to earth.

[–]anon_zero 15 points16 points ago

I find this one the most upsetting :(

[–]tom808 0 points1 point ago

Strangely I find the one where they are asleep worse.

[–]JalapenoCheese 23 points24 points ago

I would like to watch more gifs of large structures having tea and performing other everyday tasks.

[–]JalapenoCheese 1 point2 points ago

Delightful! Except for the whole collapse thing. Thanks.

[–]tonyvolpe 3 points4 points ago

My friends did this! Big grats to Henry Cowling (http://hcowling.com/) and Fred Aven (http://www.helpfulstrangers.com/)!!!!!!!

[–]hcowling 1 point2 points ago

Toooony! have some karma man :)

[–]ctetc2007 11 points12 points ago

This is why you don't let Deadpool and Wolverine near nuclear reactors

[–]Carl_Good_to_see_you 8 points9 points ago

That movie was terrible.

[–]Tofusteak 4 points5 points ago

I liked it...

[–]linasas123 7 points8 points ago

The only thing I hated about it was deadpool

[–]CookieTop 0 points1 point ago

Same thing happened in the game though, and that was awesome.

[–]IAMBollock 0 points1 point ago

Ahh, don't be like that... the first half hour was... ok?

[–]career_redditor 8 points9 points ago

"Bob? BOB! BOOOOOOOBBBB! WTF WTF WTF WTF! OMG BBBBBBBOOOOOOOOBBBBBBBBBBB"

[–]dinolexi 2 points3 points ago

I'm curious about them acting like they haven't seen each other in a long time. Pretty sure nuclear towers don't wander about.

[–]kwild 2 points3 points ago

Did anyone else feel bad for the two of them? WTF is wrong with me.

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points ago

REPOST

[–]shenglong 4 points5 points ago

That looks like the Athlone Cooling Towers in Cape Town.

A guy I know used to be a taxi driver in the early 80's. He'd often pick up tourists from the airport and bring them to the city, which meant he'd have to drive past those towers. One day a few Texan tourists were remarking about how poor some of the non-white communities and townships on the side of the freeway looked, and said that the apartheid government should do more to help them. He pointed to the cooling towers:

"You see those big grey things there? Those are giant soup pots. You won't find them anywhere else in the world. Every month they cook millions of liters of soup that is distributed for free to the poorer communities."

They believed him.

[–]dave_za 3 points4 points ago

Yep, these were the Althone Cooling Towers in Cape Town! Funny story btw.

[–]BewilderedAlbatross 1 point2 points ago

At least they went out with a bang

[–]robbyg89 1 point2 points ago

If you drink tea at a nuclear powerplant, you are going to have a bad time

[–]FHmange 1 point2 points ago

This is so weird

[–]gygaman 0 points1 point ago

[–]frorge 1 point2 points ago

I wonder if that is orange pekoe or earl grey

[–]Enlightened_Mayfly 1 point2 points ago

I don't hate you for re-posting. It frustrates me that I spend so much time on this website that I realize it's a re-post. When I clicked the link, I felt an equivalent to being trolled. I don't hate you for re-posting. Clearly all these other people here didn't see it the first time.

[–]Kaddus 1 point2 points ago

Is there a WTC version?

[–]Scotty2cky 1 point2 points ago

Saddest gif of the day :/

[–]Inflectionpoint 1 point2 points ago

Saw this in times square awhile back however its a lot funnier because they sped it up.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point ago

along with the cinnamon challenge and others right? came here to say this

[–]Aiyon 1 point2 points ago

This is from that advert, isn't it?

I never got how that advert was supposed to make us support renewable energy... It's making us feel sad for the coal stations!

[–]rocky_whoof 1 point2 points ago

We're all thinking it, but no one dares to say it.

We all feel bad for secretly wanting to see this done to a video of another couple of towers falling down that are somewhat more famous...

[–]plz600 1 point2 points ago

It's amazing what you can find on the internet.

[–]snoosh00 1 point2 points ago

[–]FascistDonut 1 point2 points ago

This was especially entertaining since I was listening to Moonlight Sonata thanks to another post. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vQVeaIHWWck

[–]blade2000 1 point2 points ago

Of all the overused and stupid gifs I see everyday on reddit - this one was brilliant!

[–]TheClevelandHockey 0 points1 point ago

The ad is great but the message makes me want to set all of the foliage within a mile of my house on fire.

[–]mastersprinkles 0 points1 point ago

I don't care how many times I see this. It's brilliant every time.

[–]iamMotherfuckerJones 0 points1 point ago

Fanciest destruction ever witnessed by mankind.

[–]Johnny182 0 points1 point ago

Man I hate the MSN ad that features this clip. I work in Times Square, and I used to see this every morning on my walk to work.

[–]Johnny182 0 points1 point ago

Although I will say that the reason I hate it has little to do with this clip -- it's MSN's suggestion that it could comb the best of the internet and present it to its users. Anyway, it's a terrible ad for MSN anyway.

[–]edasnoraa 0 points1 point ago

I can see three mile island from my bedroom window.

[–]WhaleTaleMan 0 points1 point ago

That commercial made me feel sad for the power plants, not happy they were gone, lol

Awesomely made though
