Rubik's.

As in, it is the cube of Erno Rubik.

[–]zeekar 14 points15 points ago

Well, as long as we're being pedantic, it's Ernő, not Erno.

[–]fredsface 12 points13 points ago

Shallow and pedantic

[–]Shredder13 7 points8 points ago

Mmmyes.

[–]owen_birch 1 point2 points ago

At least they didn't say Rubix Cube. That seems to have become the preferred misspelling.

[–]ten_thousand_puppies 15 points16 points ago

I still can't solve one the regular way... :\

[–]zxvf 6 points7 points ago

[–]ten_thousand_puppies 5 points6 points ago

Eh, I'd rather puzzle it out on my own rather than rely on someone else's guide.

[–]zeekar 7 points8 points ago

More power to you, but you may not grasp the depth of the challenge before you. Solving Rubik's cube without help is basically tantamount to creating your own science.

[–]JeepTheBeep -1 points0 points ago

Not really. If you know enough abstract algebra it shouldn't be all that difficult to do.

[–]olbeefy 4 points5 points ago

That's like saying: "I beat the Water Temple in 10 minutes!"

"Wow, really? How'd you do that!?"

"I used the walkthough!"

-_-

[–]randomb0y 0 points1 point ago

You got a good tutorial for the 4 and 5 sided cubes as well? Just got mine in the mail yesterday.

[–]zxvf 0 points1 point ago

No. But figuring out how to get the 4 sided cube to far enough to be solvable as a 3 sided one is easy, compared to figuring out the 3 sided one by itself.

[–]randomb0y 0 points1 point ago

I've been toying with it for a while now and it seems like a pretty big leap. I can solve the 3x3x3 one in barely under a minute, so I'm not some sort of a genius. :)

[–]GeneralMakaveli 6 points7 points ago

I bought my self one just so I could learn how to and impress people. It took me a few months to learn how to do it and get it under 1m:30s but I have no one to impress now.

[–]Andrewr05 1 point2 points ago

My way to complete a Rubic's cube is to smash it with a hammer.

:P

[–]denidzo 4 points5 points ago

My way to solve a Rubic's cube was to peel the little labels off and re-attach them correctly.

[–]TlCKETS 4 points5 points ago

If you're going to go to that trouble, then pop the pieces out and put it back together, you won't fuck the stickers that way.

[–]denidzo 2 points3 points ago

I would have if I'd known how. Definitely not mechanically inclined here.

[–]Avery17 22 points23 points ago

The machine is only a half second faster than the world record.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3v_Km6cv6DU

[–]bitt3n 28 points29 points ago

and yet it put millions of cube solvers out of a job

[–]TlCKETS 4 points5 points ago

I used to have a steady paycheck solving rubic cubes, but now this machine came along and took my job.

[–]TrashySamurai 5 points6 points ago

THEY TERK ER JERBS

[–]jefclarkk 3 points4 points ago

THEY TOOK ER JERBS!

[–]Shredder13 2 points3 points ago

DEEEEEEERRRRRRRB!

[–]KneeSeekingArrow 1 point2 points ago

MER BREKEN JAW!

[–]sto79be 26 points27 points ago

What is this Rubic cube you speak of?

[–]bruint 6 points7 points ago

What the hell is going on with RES on this comment?

[–]fjoekjui 2 points3 points ago

Check the source! If you have RES you should have a button under the comment that says source.

[–]Trekky0623 2 points3 points ago

For those without RES, every space is a link.

[–]CrazyEddie041 1 point2 points ago

Also, they all go to the same place, so don't bother looking at all of them. They all go to the Rubik's Cube Wikipedia page.

[–]HiImDan 3 points4 points ago

I was going to ask what's the non geek way, but then I realized it'd be like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DaH5tBe4Ngs&feature=related

[–]zip_000 3 points4 points ago

I don't know. Hacking up a puzzle in order to solve it is geeky in it's own way.

I prefer the standard method though.

[–]mhusman 3 points4 points ago

[–]dipswitch 2 points3 points ago

I see your Android and I raise you an Eve.

[–]HiImDan 0 points1 point ago

Wow, a youtuber noticed that there are 5 green edges.

[–]MalcolmReynoldsWrap 2 points3 points ago

Is there even a non-geek way?

[–]shellieC 2 points3 points ago

Peeling the stickers off

[–]EnemyNation 1 point2 points ago

Ah, the Cube Stormer II. Here's a you tube video of it, solving slightly slower than the gif. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_d0LfkIut2M

[–]olbeefy -1 points0 points ago

And it's only the biggest waste of money since Newt Gingrich 2012!

[–]SpartanSig 1 point2 points ago

So it's that time of the week?

[–]banz23 1 point2 points ago

Geeks solve problems by automating the solution and making the manual solution completely obsolete. This is the epitome of the geek way!

[–]chapterten 1 point2 points ago

No, the geek way is to solve it yourself and call it a Rubik's cube.

[–]DaMountainDwarf 0 points1 point ago

5 seconds? Nwb.

[–]Velenne 0 points1 point ago

Nerdgasm....

[–]morkoq 0 points1 point ago

I prefer to use my hands

[–]BigMcLargeHuge 0 points1 point ago

It's shit like this....that keeps me working with technology.

Imagine what a machine that could do this 20 years ago would have looked like. A machine that could calc optimal solutions, then the steps required based on the current orientation, then manipulate the "fingers", etc., etc. etc.

Now, imagine what a machine capable of this will look like 20 years from now.

[–]SittingDuckNZ 0 points1 point ago

Pyramid shaped one The real beaut of this video is the guy that casually strolls in off camera near the end.

[–]hoyter 0 points1 point ago

I need this app.

[–]blulink 0 points1 point ago

[–]argv_minus_one 0 points1 point ago

Everything's faster with robots.

[–]laudalelemera 0 points1 point ago

Why to use brain and limbs at all

[–]PlayboyPaulie 0 points1 point ago

was expecting this to be MindVirus

[–]secondplanet 0 points1 point ago

I also built a Rubik's robot out of NXT parts, but it took about 30 minutes to complete the cube and was a pain to debug.

[–]Tananar 0 points1 point ago

One of my friends can solve one in less than 45 seconds, no matter how it's been scrambled. Don't know how, it's crazy.

[–]tronrocks 0 points1 point ago

Before I clicked I said, "If this is that gif of the smartphone solving the cube using legos, I'm going to cut a bitch." It was...

[–]SociableIntrovert 0 points1 point ago

So THAT'S why my brother's fiance has knife wounds.

[–]woyteck -2 points-1 points ago

Definitely a Greek way of solving the problem - build a publicly funded robot, using German money ;)

[–]jumpup -3 points-2 points ago

is it just me or did they completely overlook the point of a rubik cube, sure its impressive but other then giving a ai something to do while it figures out solitaire its not really all that usefull

[–]sagewah 1 point2 points ago

Is it me, or did they completely overlook the point of a mountain? Sure, climbing it is impressive but other than giving a couple of guys something to do while they figure out how they're going to earn a living its not really that useful.
