A subreddit for anything related to games (but not sports). "Related" means that posts must contain gaming-related content in the link/post body, not just a "forced" connection via the title or a caption added to the content.

"Generic" image macros/memes (where the character itself is not related to gaming) like Scumbag Steve, Good Guy Greg, etc. will be removed. Something that "reminds you of a game", or "looks like something from a game" is also not an appropriate submission.

Nobody says that... cod is a fish.

[–]DailyMailer 12 points13 points ago

Can I ask who exactly said cod was a "realistic military shooter" because I don't think anyone actually believes that. I think, you had a thought about how cod isn't realistic, then made this post.

[–]SlightlyInsane 3 points4 points ago

It's actually a fairly common thing that people say about COD, or at least it used to be, I don't know about any more. Similarly, the people who claim that Battlefield is better because it is more "realistic" are also wrong.

[–]83alx 3 points4 points ago

Is it more realistic than COD in reality? Yes. But I will agree with you that it's dumb to call either game 'realistic' in the sense that either of them are close to simulators.

[–]MastaBro 4 points5 points ago

False. They are both equally realistic.

A soldier who can in one second, drive a tank, the next pilot a helicopter, the next Resurrect a gunshot victim with a defibrillator, both games are equally ridiculousness and should be seen as such. People play for fun not real life simulation.

[–]Tanshinmatsudai 0 points1 point ago

People play ArmA II.

I think that's about as realistic as you're going to get.

[–]WeAllLoveRed -1 points0 points ago

False. That's bad reasoning.

First off it is almost impossible (read highly unlikely) for two (very complex) things to be (100%) equal.

Also pointing out one common aspect does not change anything about all the aspects that are different.

[–]cycopl 0 points1 point ago

In all fairness, they may mean realistic in comparison to games where you're jumping around shooting rocket launchers and plasma rifles and stuff.

[–]PhazedEWG 18 points19 points ago

My reaction when someone says Battlefield is a realistic war simulator.

[–]yum_muesli 5 points6 points ago

Battlefield 4

  • Mission 1: 12 hours of paperwork at HQ
  • Mission 2: Stand guard outside this post for another 12 hours
  • Mission 3: Lie on the floor until the fire stops (for 12 hours)
  • Mission 4: Try not to miss your family

You get the idea....

[–]ObliviousDerpMaster 1 point2 points ago

And in between missions there is a mini-game where you have to take apart and clean your weapon, and if you don't do a good enough job the game yells at you for half an hour, and if you do a good job, the game still yells at you for half an hour for something else.

[–]Rustysporkman 1 point2 points ago

You can have your ARMA 2's and your DCS Warthogs.

I'm going to be over here laying C4 on my jeep.

And my tank.

And YOUR tank.

[–]Whargod 1 point2 points ago

ArmA2 and DCS Warthog/BlackShark FTW!

My only true loves.

[–]Seanjohn2800 0 points1 point ago

Realistic-er.

[–]Hakoten 4 points5 points ago

I wanna go to war so I can prestige status guise

[–]V2Blast[M] 0 points1 point ago

Yep.

[–]Rzimmer1ksu 2 points3 points ago

Operation flashpoint dragon rising was pretty realistic...

[–]zzorga 0 points1 point ago

Bagh! Dragon Rising was shit! You should try ArmA II: Operation Arrowhead.

[–]E_Snap 0 points1 point ago

Why not DayZ Mod for ArmA II: CO? It's very, very fun.

[–]Sarria22 0 points1 point ago

Ah yes, the true sequel vs the soulless shell.

[–]spaceman88 2 points3 points ago

What determines if a shooter is realistic? I'm in the Marines, and I don't see anything in a game about getting yelled at all the time and cleaning the microwave for my sergeant. And then when you finally deploy, having to fill out a will, get shots, and waiting, and waiting, and waiting for someone to tell you the plan of action...

[–]ObliviousDerpMaster 1 point2 points ago

What about all the sand-bags you get to fill? And the high heat combine with rancid crap smell infesting the fetid air...

[–]Xombie818 1 point2 points ago

The military sounds like shit.

[–]spaceman88 0 points1 point ago

Its fun and awesome sometimes, but they treat you like babies and hold your hand through sometimes the most simplest of things. It gets annoying.

[–]spaceman88 0 points1 point ago

Thats in the expansion pack.

[–]timecronus 3 points4 points ago

i think Arma is the closest thing to a realistic military shooter

[–]joe_h 0 points1 point ago

Operation Flashpoint

[–]Sarria22 1 point2 points ago

[–]joe_h 0 points1 point ago

Huh, they actually renamed the original...

[–]haymakers9th 0 points1 point ago

Please, Day Z is the most realistic.

[–]SimilarImage 6 points7 points ago

[–]danish_hole 1 point2 points ago

Fucking faggots, seriously, who couldn't take a .50 caliber bullet to the torso and still slash a knife across my chest and kill me? You guys are bitches, shut the fuck up, noobs.

Modern Warfare is not realistic at all, ever, in any way other than people, guns, bullets, blood, and helicopters exist in real life. Treyarch does a good job at getting a little bit more into realism, but its still not realistic. HOWEVER CoD is not meant to be realistic, it is meant to be fun. If you dont like CoD because its not realistic, then you do not like any games. You couldn't like any games then, because in order to be realistic, a game could not exist on a digital platform. It would actually have to realistic.

[–]Cockaroach 0 points1 point ago

I guess it kindof is. Did you ever play "Guns" when you were a kid. CoD is more realistic than that.

[–]Daddy_Digital 0 points1 point ago

it aint real til you get diagnosed with PTSD

Atmosphere? Maybe. The shooting, or pretty much anything else? No.

[–]SlightlyInsane 0 points1 point ago

We aren't talking about the atmosphere or set design when we are saying it isn't realistic, bro.

[–]PinguWithAnM 0 points1 point ago

I did enjoy the homage to Generation Kill in MW2, with the standoff at the bridge and the motorized assault through the town.

[–]xavis -4 points-3 points ago

who the fuck would even argue that? games arent supposed to be realistic. if it was realistic, you would take one hit and die. if your shot in the stomach or leg, you'd lay there for a few minutes cant move then die. could you image the bitchfest that would have? fuck realism in games, and fuck anyone who wants that.

[–]zzorga 3 points4 points ago

Have you ever heard of the ArmA series? It's very popular for those very reasons. One bad move and bang, hope you saved earlier.

[–]Systemcode 2 points3 points ago

I was agreeing with everything you said until half way though that comment. Then you just came off as a prick.

[–]xavis -4 points-3 points ago

oh well, wasn't ment to be. interpreting shit said over the internet is up to you.

[–]SlightlyInsane -1 points0 points ago

Most people don't mean to be pricks, they just are. It has nothing to do with "interpretation".

[–]Seanjohn2800 -1 points0 points ago

False.

You state that someone who is a prick doesn't act like one on purpose, they are from a subconscious level. This much is true.

You state that interpretation doesn't matter, where actually, it is all that matters. Example: I could give you an old exercise program cd I owned to you as a gift. You could think that I'm taking a stab at you, that I'm calling you overweight.

In real life, we have body language and tone of voice to convey any underlying feeling, if there even is one, to what we say. This is the Internet, it'd be wiser of someone to not read into a written statement at all. If you were to reply as if there was no tone, one could avoid making a comment thread about text interpretation.

Although, of he had spelled correctly it would have come of as less assholish, though like I said, it doesn't matter.

[–]ritish 1 point2 points ago

It's comments like this that need a permanent spot on the front page. And more and more often comments like this are downvoted.

Redditors are assholes.

[–]Seanjohn2800 0 points1 point ago

Thanks, that's Coolio

[–]SlightlyInsane -1 points0 points ago

I just... Wow. I mean really, wow.

[–]Chainsawd 0 points1 point ago
