Why do people criticize this for being about the american revolution? the other 4 were about conflicts in the balkan peninsula and italy, shouldn't that have received just as much criticism from those not of that nationality?

Because, there are SO MANY other themes they could've picked for this. I do take into account that the American revolution was an important event, but there are FAR more important/intriguing periods in time than the revolutionary period. Why not have it staged in France during their civil war, or in china during one of its many conflicts, or japan (to be honest, that there would be a kick ass game), excetra... you get the point.

Anyways this whole thing just points out how parochial these gaming studios have become and how they have tailored their games towards a set population who they assume know little to nothing about non-American history.

Personally I think its awesome and finally the direction I wanted the series to go in. When the first one came out and they said they would all be in different time periods I imagined like a pirate one and a ninja one and a future one and all kinds of crazy shit. But so far they have been very similar.

I agree, but Desmond is at least 2nd or 3rd generation american (no hint of an accent). So ubisoft probably didn't want to have to spend another 2-3 games getting to the USA

Really? Because after high school and college, I just find American History really boring. I've gotten three full years of elementary school, another three in secondary school, plus several semesters of college covering the same span of 500 years or so (and they don't even do more than a few months of work studying prior to the revolutionary war, so it's several years of 1776 onward).

Seriously, if I have to hear about Pocahontas and "How cool is it that Disney was wrong?" one more time, I can't be held responsible for my actions.

I like reddit sometimes. When a Canadian posted something equivalent, the thread got innundated with down votes and people criticizing that somebody pointed out there was a lot of jingoism. When an american does it, everyone's pleased.
