False. Many people stop thinking logically when they are in love.
[–]Un_balai 2 points3 points4 points 3 months ago
Clearly OP was never married. I had to quit thinking logically so I wouldn't have to sleep on the couch ;)

Not all atheists think logically.
[–]l337moomoo 0 points1 point2 points 3 months ago
Isaac Newton was the father of modern science and he believed in God. Does that mean he didn't think logically? Is posting picture of an MS Paint Muhammad on /r/atheism with the intention of pissing off Muslims for no reason a more logical path to living life? Please teach me your almighty logic, I am new to atheism and have been an idiot up to this point in my life.
[–]rockoman100[S] 2 points3 points4 points 3 months ago
You can think logically about many different things. Sure isaac newton thought logically. But about different things than you and i do. If you do not think logically about the existence of god, well then you probably dont think about it at all. Doesnt mean you arent thinking logically about other things.
Woah. MIND = BLOWN. I've never looked it like that before. Logic is my new God. I have so much to learn around here.
[–]GOD_Over_Djinn 0 points1 point2 points 3 months ago
Logic is the LORD your GOD, thou shalt have no other gods besides it.
[–]dostiers 0 points1 point2 points 3 months ago
I wonder what conclusion Newton would reach about God if he were living now given what modern science has discovered?
[–]Hypersapien 0 points1 point2 points 3 months ago
The reason that we have seven colors in the rainbow is because Newton believed seven was a religiously signifigant number. Newton might have been brilliant, but that doesn't mean he was completely logical.

Pretty well actually. Not doing too well in French but eh. How about you?
[–]Gunderfro 0 points1 point2 points 3 months ago
Atheism is not equivilant to logic.
[–]moosetastrophe 0 points1 point2 points 3 months ago
This kind of implies you would want to stop thinking logically but it's a difficult task. Hmm.

False. Tequilla.
[–]thesedollars -3 points-2 points-1 points 3 months ago
Ugh. Can't stand the arrogance that seems to come with atheism. Thinking logically would be understanding that you can never prove god or disprove god. God doesn't have to be some white guy with a beard. No one on this planet knows why we're here. Let's just leave it at that
[–]rockoman100[S] 4 points5 points6 points 3 months ago
the next logical step would be to conclude that because it cannot be proven or disproven, there is no logical reason to actually think he exists. This situation also applies to flying unicorns and flying balls of spaghetti.
[–]thesedollars -6 points-5 points-4 points 3 months ago
Ok we agree it cannot be proven god exists or doesn't exist. Being an Athesit means you believe there is no such thing as god. You just admitted it cannot be proven so it would be logical to say there is no evidence of god (whether it is a guy with a white beard or a power crystal that has a copy of good burger 2 on DVD orbiting it generating gllekagons), so it should instead be a mystery to everyone. If you believe there is no god you believe the same way a Christian believes that there is a god. Both parties believe something. Both parties have no way to prove each other wrong. So atheists imo are just as foolish as religious people.
Just as foolish?
"Atheism is not a claim, it is a rejection of a claim" ~ (Not sure who said this)
I think its a bit more foolish to fall into something without evidence, simply because you were raised that way, then it is to demand evidence in order to determine what exists.
Right it's a rejection of a claim that cannot be proven. Atheism means you do not believe there is a god. So the claim of god is rejected. so this means that atheists reject the claim of god because they don't believe in god. Atheists don't believe in god. You still can't disprove god. that's just what I think you're entitled to your opinion. I don't have a huge problem with atheism but I can't stand the arrogance that comes with it (not saying you're arrogant idk you..) but people are hellbent on thinking theyre intellectual gurus because they reject something that cannt be disproven. It's kinda a paradox. We have people like the amazing Atheist writing books When he is some angry fat asshole who hates society, probably can't get a real job, never graduated high school, etc etc because all of a sudden he is some guru of logic because he believes that there isn't a god when in fact you cannot disprove god. It's ironic. But that's my two cents I'm gonna go to bed.
[–]Soporus 3 points4 points5 points 3 months ago
There's an infinite amount of gods you can't prove or disprove any more than God, or El Elyon, or Tlaloc.
It's not arrogant to say that not believing in something without proof is more rational than believing in something without proof.
Exactomundo.
You clearly do not understand basic logic.
[–]thesedollars -1 points0 points1 point 3 months ago
Explain to me how I don't understand basic logic? Explain to me how it is logical to not believe in something that cannot be proven or disproven. Atheism means that you do not believe in god. I don't understand basic logic? Shut the fuck up with your bullshit. Just because I disagree with you doesn't mean I don't understand basic logic. Exactly why I don't even read r/atheism
[–]Gunderfro 1 point2 points3 points 3 months ago
don't get so upset!
It is illogical to assume that because a unicorn cannot be proven to exist, it is then illogical to say that I don't believe in the existence of unicorns.
Atheism means, "I do not accept the claim presented that a god or gods exist."
I do not claim that I have evidence against a supernatural entity.
I'm sorry you're so pissed off. I am not a rationality ninja, so I cannot strike my mind issues down with swift paragraphs. Instead I rely on the simple, straightforward concept that asserting the existence of ANYTHING requires experimental evidence if you expect others to submit to said concept.
That is what scepticism, logic as associated with atheism means to me, anyway.
[–]Gunderfro -1 points0 points1 point 3 months ago*
I apologise for the crude application of my original opinion. It seems like you have a reasonable understanding of atheism. But you clearly dislike arrogance. And you are right to do so. Arrogance is not born of atheism, perhaps you are right to avoid r/atheism though.
[–]thesedollars 0 points1 point2 points 3 months ago
It's cool. Thanks.
[–]Smallpaul 0 points1 point2 points 3 months ago
Ok we agree it cannot be proven god exists or doesn't exist. Being an Athesit means you believe there is no such thing as god.
Maybe that's what it means to be an "Athesit", but it is not what it means to be an atheist.
An atheist is someone who rejects the assertion that there is a god. Not someone who necessarily asserts that there is one.
