I'm pretty sure the loop is actually quite short, just nearly seamless. Follow one pencil, looking at the yellow/black shaft (heh, shaft).

Yeah, much easier to see the loop if you look at that gear in the upper left that's feeding the pencils in. The loop only really needs to be long enough for one pencil to "turn into" the next pencil in line.

It's a really short .gif, it doesn't even go through one full pencil drop... only the very last pencil barely moves out of frame before the loop starts again.

Ive been saying this for a long time. Some of the factories they get inside and film are massive and have the most mind blowingly complex production lines. I can't imagine what goes into the creation of stuff like that. They should totally spin off an engineering show about stuff like that.

Ah, notice how they mention they use cedar? That's because they're making real pencils, not those crappy things made with glued together wood particles. You know, the ones that break in half when you just look at them wrong? I hate those faux pencils, and the worst part is most packaging isn't labeled where you can tell the difference. (Of course, there's an easy solution: get a mechanical pencil.)
