The black panthers were started in response to white people blowing up little girls in churches, mob lynchings, and the assassination of black leaders. Their response was to advocate armed resistance against these people.

Now, I understand the confusion. Many white people are completely unaware that there was a time in history where simply being black was actually a reason to be afraid for your life. Who these people are, I don't know. Did they sleep through school or was this simply not taught to them, who cares, they're ignorant, life goes on.

But the fact is, the Black Panthers were armed RESISTANCE against violent white oppression. Literally, we're talking about a time when people sicced dogs on blacks for trying to go to school and the question is, "Hey...what happens if those people getting dogs sicced on them and murdered in cold blood were allowed to carry guns like the law provides?"

This is what's interesting about the 2nd amendment and blacks. Historically, the loudest groups supporting the second amendment were actually white supremacist off-shoots (see: the history of the NRA and Nathan Bedford Forrest and the Ku Klux Klan). So it's no surprise that the idea of black people with guns protecting themselves from white people with guns is, in the minds of many whites, the equivalent of a declaration of war when if anything it is a declaration of an intent to exercise one's right to self-defense.

To this day, blacks as a political group are very much pro-gun control. Part of this is because blacks recognize that the people who really want lax gun control are white people who want to kill minorities because they're fucking insane.

Do just the TINIEST little bit of research into alternative hunting and fishing groups and how they are readily stomped out by the monolithic right-wing race-baiting of the NRA. It's obvious that the NRA isn't concerned with hunting and fishing, it's concerned with maintaining armed power in the hands of white people and the ability to enforce it without restriction or oversight.
