The best use for these would be to eat messy food without dirtying your hands. In that case, it would be more efficient to dip your hands in an edible liquid that hardens into a film and peel that off after you're done. Or just use a latex disposable glove.

You know... While there are numerous reasons that come to mind instantly (like eating your own hands), as long as somone used them in what we could call the 'correct' way I dont see what the big deal is as having them as a novelty food item?

Carrots have the same average density. Your fingers have skin, fat, ligaments, and bone. The bone is harder to bite through, and as long as your hands aren't numb, you'll probably stop biting when you feel the pain.
