I'm more of a body under the covers, left leg out type of guy.

[–]bronk1977 28 points29 points ago

Just how the Boogeyman wants you to sleep.

[–]HapDrastic 2 points3 points ago

Same, but right leg out.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points ago

You have a cooling leg too! I am not alone!

[–]sebastiansboat 1 point2 points ago

Oh that kind of guy. We all know what will happen next...

[–]allycakes 97 points98 points ago

I can't sleep unless I have my feet covered. For some reason, having my feet stuck out of the blankets makes me feel vulnerable and weird. Though I'm sure if some strange man were to sneak into my room and my feet were sticking out from the covers, he would attack more than my feet.

[–]Mysticcal 81 points82 points ago

I am the opposite, my feet must be uncovered or I feel trapped or super hot.

Then again my feet generally get so cold I can't feel them anymore by doing this.

[–]astralvortex 39 points40 points ago

Upvote for the exposed feet posse.

[–]Benadocious 22 points23 points ago

I cannot sleep with socks. Cover the legs but not thy feet. Thats as far as my fetish goes.

[–][deleted] ago

[deleted]

[–]immatellyouwhat 1 point2 points ago

Thanks for linking to what socks are we had no idea.

[–]blopblip 1 point2 points ago

I am like you. I have tried it before, and I always wake up having kicked off my socks.

[–]LooseRuth 1 point2 points ago

Your socks aren't tight enough.

Being someone who was raised on tight white cotton socks, I've never experienced "kicking off my socks."

[–]ArbitraryIndigo 1 point2 points ago

My grandfather lost a few toes do to sleeping with socks. Sheets are still loose enough that the nasty doesn't fester on the surface of your feet.

[–]antwearingjetpack 0 points1 point ago

What caused the loss of toes specifically?

[–]jason28 0 points1 point ago

Flesh eating bacteria, what else would it be, duh

[–]ArbitraryIndigo 0 points1 point ago

Socks trapped moisture in, which made it a great habitat for things that eat people. I think it was gangrene, but I'm not sure.

[–]YawnSpawner 14 points15 points ago

I'm the same way and find it annoying that hotels tuck their sheets in so well.

[–]LooseRuth 2 points3 points ago

This brings back memories of throwing multiple kicks airward in attempt to release them.

[–]Benadocious 0 points1 point ago

Brings back nightmares of trying to run away from something, but actually going nowhere while said object progresses to you. Then, when you FINALLY get stabbed, you wake up realizing it was your sheets. LESSON LEARNED

[–]Raxz 9 points10 points ago

I tend to get too hot if my torso is covered, but also I like to have my feet sticking out so I can feel some cool air back there.

So basically, my blanket only covers my arse and my upper legs.

[–]metalhead4 4 points5 points ago

I concur. One leg out = proper body thermometer

[–]herimitho 3 points4 points ago

I can relate all too well. When I was younger I HAD to tuck my feet in, the more tuck, the more protected.

[–]this_barb 2 points3 points ago

Or you have a cat.

[–]allycakes 1 point2 points ago

Even when I had a cat, I could never get him to sleep with me in my bedroom :( . He was always more interested in batting the crap around on my desk

[–]LooseRuth 1 point2 points ago

Redditor tip: lock cat in your room at night, they'll get used to it...eventually...

[–]CrypticRanger 2 points3 points ago

[–]allycakes 1 point2 points ago

Oh my god, what nightmare did I just read? I'm already paranoid enough being in my house alone

[–]kirkkismet 1 point2 points ago

i have the same feeling, but as a child, i was under the impression that the only way that aliens could abduct you was by locking their tractor beam on exposed feet

i still cant fall asleep if my feet are out from the covers

[–]hugo_tets 1 point2 points ago

I can't sleep unless I have the blanket on and my chin is covered, my feet un. my chin HAS to be covered or I'll never he able to sleep.

[–]D49A1D852468799CAC08 0 points1 point ago

I still feel the same way! I just can't sleep or feel comfortable without the bottom of the sheet tucked into the end of the bed. No idea why.

Edit: if anyone has some kind of explanation, I'd love to hear it!

[–]Itchy_Back 5 points6 points ago

I can't even have it tucked under the end of my bed because then there's a gap between my feet and the end of the bed and there could be, like, centipedes or something. I have very specific fears.

[–]D49A1D852468799CAC08 0 points1 point ago

I guess I should clarify. I meant that I tuck it under the mattress, but above the base of the bed.

Also, our room in my parents' house was next to the woodpile. I once heard a scratching noise, and woke up to find a 30cm centipede on the curtains next to my bed. Another time I heard a noise next to my head, turned on the light, and it was a 10cm spider.

Since those two incidents, I don't ever sleep with the window open, anywhere.

[–]Itchy_Back 2 points3 points ago

yeah I know what you meant, I have to untuck my blanket and retuck it under my feet. cuz I'm a wuss.

[–]techsplurge 0 points1 point ago

Holy moly shit! And I thought I'm the only one to think this!

[–]DownWithTheShip 0 points1 point ago

I have to keep my feet covered too. Although my reason is because i'm afraid the cat is going to try and jump on the bed, make it about half way, and then claw herself the rest of the way up. She got me once and that was enough for me to never leave my feet exposed again. Our bed is high and she's not the best jumper.

[–]kwils 0 points1 point ago

I concur. My fear is stemmed from a movie I watched as a child where a man left his feet uncovered at night and rats ate the soles of his feet. After that I never left my feet uncovered again! The Other Side of Heaven

[–]WoodenPlunger 0 points1 point ago

My head and feet must be covered

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point ago

If I leave my feet out from under the covers I imagine some kind of skeletal/zombie creature reaching out from under the bed, grabbing said exposed feet and dragging me into his vortex of hell.

[–]blingx 0 points1 point ago

feet pics?

[–]clemensschein 15 points16 points ago

But ... the monsters!

[–]DarwinsDrinkingBuddy 9 points10 points ago

The foot's covered! The monsters need both feet in plain view!

[–]BallsackTBaghard -2 points-1 points ago

What monsters? Am I missing an inside joke or something?

edit: of course, just downvote me instead of explaining

[–]clemensschein 2 points3 points ago

Many people used to be scared of monsters only a blanket could protect them from as a child.

[–]BallsackTBaghard 0 points1 point ago

okay

[–]wind_stole_my_mat 35 points36 points ago

That's actually his left leg.

[–]nivarius 19 points20 points ago

Oh, you!

[–]xnerdyxrealistx 7 points8 points ago

[–]CmdrDuckPiss 38 points39 points ago

This is why i hate meth

[–][deleted] 14 points15 points ago

When you start hearing your heartbeat and your eyes won't stop twitching when their shut that's when you know you need to take another hit and give up for the night. (Sober 2 years)

Edit: Wording.

[–]MizDocta 3 points4 points ago

There is no such thing as an "ex-addict". Either you're addicted your whole life...or you were just abusing. (sober since 2009)

Edit: go ahead and downvote me, assholes, it's the truth.

[–]Tristessa27 15 points16 points ago

I kinda agree with that (no meth/coke since 2002). When you're an addict, you deal with the temptation and thoughts of using, forever; or at least, I have for these 10 years. Still going strong, though :)

[–]MizDocta 12 points13 points ago

It's true. I'm a sober heroin addict -- and even though the thought doesn't cross my mind near as much as it did when I was freshly sober -- it still crosses my mind. Especially when shit gets tough. Congratulations on the sobriety!!!!! That is wonderful news.

[–]DarwinsDrinkingBuddy 5 points6 points ago

Good for you guys! That's great.

[–]MizDocta 3 points4 points ago

Thanks so much. This is really lame to say but beating my addiction is one of my proudest moments. I did it all by myself. I used to be homeless and I didn't even care. Less than five years later, I'm writing this to you on the new IPad I just bought for myself. :3

Edit: actually, God helped me.

[–]DarwinsDrinkingBuddy 1 point2 points ago

Why's that lame to say? You did something a lot of people unfortunately don't or can't do, and you did well enough for yourself to be browsing Reddit on an iPad. That's very understandably a source of pride.

[–]Tyaedalis 0 points1 point ago

Yeah this is a struggle that many die fighting. You're an awesome person.

[–]MizDocta 0 points1 point ago

thank you! I don't feel like an awesome person, ha ha. I guess it's the guilt. That's the one feeling that has never really faded.

[–]WeAllLoveRed -1 points0 points ago

... I do not get the edit, not because of wether or not god exists, but because I do not understand why in one moment you are proud of yourself, and then you say: 'god did it'.

You should have more respect for yourself!

[–]MizDocta 4 points5 points ago

Ha ha. I guess God helped me is a better way of putting it. At the time, when I was deep into the throes of my addiction, I intentionally lost all contact with family. I couldn't handle looking my little sister in the eye while I was high.

My wake-up call was actually when I was in Wal-Mart and I saw my family. I kept my distance....but none of them recognized me.

So, knowing I had too many connections in my small town, I moved to an even smaller town about two hours away.

My thought process was if I couldn't find heroin, I couldn't get high. Because I knew no one, staying dry was "easy."

But, I didn't realize how alone I would feel. I found myself longing for some sort of comfort...a friend.

Then, during one of my "rough" days, I was dry-heaving from not having eaten. I was baking in the sun on the sidewalk, and I could smell myself.

I was close to giving up. Getting up, finding a pay phone, and calling an old "friend" (dealer) and having him come pick me up.

As I was trying to remember his number, a poster from my childhood in a private Christian academy came to mind.

It was just a picture with foot steps in the sand at the beach. A quote about always having God with you underneath.

I guess it just struck me, I wasn't alone. It was that very moment that I realized I could do this. I had a warrior in me the whole time, just dying to get out.

I got off my ass, stopped blaming mommy and daddy, and here I am.

It's amazing what I had to go through to realize there was a God. Because I had Christianity shoved down my throat at a really young age, I despised all things "God" for so long.

I believe God led me down that path so I could really, truly see Him. To show me the Bible and religion has the right intention, but the "scare tactics" that the Church uses to control the masses were so...so wrong.

But, if I hadn't felt God's hand on my shoulder that day on the street, I don't known if I would be here right now.

I don't believe in the Christian God. I feel God every day, and I can tell you that He/She/It is nothing but love.

There is no room for hate for anyone or anything. Gay, straight...drug addict or business man.

I despise all religion...I feel by defining God we limit Him.

[–]turtlesquirt 2 points3 points ago

Damn dog that shit was deep, god has never taken me down a path like that but I've always felt the same way. Good luck with your fight friend you have more then just god on your side

[–]Smoofer 0 points1 point ago

This is beautiful.

Thank you.

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points ago

You're right, I'll change it. Always make that mistake.

Edit: Spelling. I'M ON A ROLL!

[–]MizDocta 5 points6 points ago

It's okay. Ha ha. I guess I'm an asshole about that because people in my town are so ignorant about addiction/abuse and the difference in between. By the way, congratulations on the sobriety!!!!

[–]desertjedi85 1 point2 points ago

Your left

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point ago

I'M LEFT!

[–]koolkid005 1 point2 points ago

Addiction is a metabolic disease that can be cured. At least that's the school of thought I belong to.

[–]tinkan 0 points1 point ago

It's not a metabolic disease. You can easily call it a disease. But saying it is metabolic just makes you look stupid.

[–]MizDocta -1 points0 points ago

We are all entitled to our own opinions...but may I ask..are you an addict?

Edit: is this really an upvote/downvote kinda comment? Ask yourself that, whoever you are.

[–]koolkid005 0 points1 point ago

I am probably not but I've had a scare with Benzos before and I know how dangerous it would be for me to start doing opiates so I don't even touch them. I have an addictive personality and am probably "addicted to weed" as much as you can be. But no I wouldn't consider myself an addict I just have a fascination with addiction and literature relating to it. I subscribe to the same school as William S Borroughs.

[–]MizDocta 0 points1 point ago

I smoke a lot of pot. I'm sure I'm mentally addicted as well. But as most people know, there isn't a physical addiction. Tell me more, then! I really do invite new ideas and theories. I would love to know why you feel this way, especially if you are as educated about the issue as you seem. I've studied a little about addiction...but from what it sounds like you know more. Obviously, just because I'm an addict, doesn't make me more informed about the biology of it.

[–]peterkingsnuggets 0 points1 point ago

I'm not particularly knowledgeable on the technical distinctions, but this seems like the difference between addiction and dependency.

[–]MizDocta 0 points1 point ago

I'm not sure what you mean? I always thought addiction and dependency were the same thing.

[–][deleted] -3 points-2 points ago

Downvoted for the whining about downvotes.

[–]MizDocta 0 points1 point ago

You'd think whining would involve something "WHY IS EVERYONE DOWNVOTING ME?! DERPA DERPA DERPA." but hey, ya, I see where you're coming from.

[–]Bilibond 5 points6 points ago

He needs more blankets and less blankets!

[–]floatablepie 2 points3 points ago

I'm afraid you're right.

[–]HE_WHO_STANDS_TO_POO 2 points3 points ago

Just do some cocaine, should balance that right out for you.

[–]jakfischer 1 point2 points ago

Then smoke a pack of cigarettes while cleaning your bathroom with your tooth brush and bleach.

[–]r_HOWTONOTGIVEAFUCK 3 points4 points ago

You're not doing it right.

[–]turnleftdale 8 points9 points ago

I always just stick my feet out of the bottom of the covers when I'm hot.

[–][deleted] ago

[deleted]

[–]BallsackTBaghard 0 points1 point ago

I haven't said "WHAT THE FUCK?" out loud while laughing for a long time like I did reading your 'foot tickling clown monster" thing.

Seriously, elaborate please.

[–]Askeee 0 points1 point ago

I used to do this, then I got a cat.

[–]debbiedoesdallasonce 30 points31 points ago

correction: the third panel should have the blanket across the chest, so the feet and head (the things that give off the mot heat) can remain cool while the body still has a little blanket to love on.

[–]Cendeu 6 points7 points ago

IIRC, the whole "heads and feet give off more heat" was a myth. An incorrect one. I remember a redditor not too long back linked to some info on it.

[–]Phreakhead 0 points1 point ago

Actually, it's different for males and females. Females send the heat to their limbs when sleeping, while males keep the heat in their core. That's why they have separate temperature ratings on sleeping bags.

[–]Cendeu 0 points1 point ago

Really? That's an odd one. I'm curious why we're different like that.

[–]Phreakhead 1 point2 points ago

I have no idea, but that's what I read on the sleeping bag package, so it must be true. They have real sleeping bagologists!

[–]lacipart 1 point2 points ago

Hmm, well girls store a lot of fat around their "core" in the form of boobs, so that helps insulate their core and means they wouldn't need to "focus" as much on keeping that warm.

And conversely, men generally have more muscle on their limbs, so that means their limbs have more insulation so they instead focus on keeping their core warm.

I'm just throwing random ideas into the wind and seeing what sticks.

[–]imnotahick 18 points19 points ago

correction: not everyone sleeps the same nor wants to lose the most heat

[–][deleted] ago

[deleted]

[–]imnotahick 2 points3 points ago

hey, imnotahick

[–]MizDocta 4 points5 points ago

That's exactly what a hick WOULD say.

[–]koolkid005 -3 points-2 points ago

OH HAHA IT'S HIS USERNAME HAHA

[–]TonyMontana12 0 points1 point ago

Or does one lose the most heat from their feet and head, thus requiring proper coverage to stay warm? Edit:formatting

[–]atibabykt 0 points1 point ago

this but the blanket somehow awkwardly on the feet as well. the feet must be protected!

[–]red321red321 0 points1 point ago

exactly. also, when the blanket is too heavy on or tight to the feet or toes you're at risk of those nasty charlie horses in your toes and calves that may occur at night, particularly in the summer when the heat makes you sweat and you may become dehydrated leading to cramping.

[–]SlightlyStoopkid 5 points6 points ago

If you get dehydrated and cramp up from sleeping, it might be time to embrace a healthier lifestyle.

[–]DarwinsDrinkingBuddy 2 points3 points ago

Have you never woken up really sweaty, once in a while?

[–]SlightlyStoopkid 0 points1 point ago

Yes, all the time, but my body is able to cope with the extremely minor amount of water I lose during the night without wilting like a dead tulip.

[–]Strangersoverfriends 3 points4 points ago

This is me RIGHT NOW. It's noon on a Thursday.. don't judge me!

[–]heptakaideka 0 points1 point ago

same. got off early.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points ago

I actually do this nightly except for one leg is completely covered and one not. I like to pretend I am two-face.

[–]DarwinsDrinkingBuddy 1 point2 points ago

...And to think I trusted a pretend two-face...

[–]Spooniator 2 points3 points ago

I always tuck myself inn on all sides no matter how hot and sweaty I am. Ain't no monster gotta get me.

[–]wearplaid 2 points3 points ago

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points ago

Your whole body needs to be covered, silly. Otherwise you'll get raped by the monsters.

[–]BlehhNinja 5 points6 points ago

Either this is a repost, or I have seen into the future.

[–]DuckDragon 5 points6 points ago

[–]chaitan94 2 points3 points ago

And if you talk about FB, I see it almost everyday.

[–]Phreakhead 1 point2 points ago

And yet no one posts the source. I wish I knew who did this comic!

[–]wildmonkeys2k8 1 point2 points ago

This was me last night.

[–]imnotahick 1 point2 points ago

dude this was me last night. Perfect representation, just that little bit does magic

[–]red321red321 1 point2 points ago

yup, a man with no woman sharing his bed in a photo on reddit for redditors. this is exactly just right, no woman in sight. well done illustrator.

[–]tlott 1 point2 points ago

I like to be all under the cover except one leg, knee down, not covered.

[–]redmonster8 1 point2 points ago

I like to have a little bit of the blanket barely over my chest, just so I have something to hold onto...hehe...

[–]MrTaco69 1 point2 points ago

I actually do this the exact opposite. Just Right = one foot sticking out of the covers

[–]fizzlefist 1 point2 points ago

Exact opposite for me... I bundle up under a heavy comforter and stick out my feet.

[–]megustarita 1 point2 points ago

I am the inverse. I need the blanket covering all of me except for one leg. That is juuuuust right.

[–]lenniu 1 point2 points ago

It is actually just left.

[–]tjmax 1 point2 points ago

covering or uncovering your extremities will adequately warm or cool you.

[–]yoodle 1 point2 points ago

Next frame: guy imagines horrible monsters coming to eat him, promptly covers entire body and decides to just sweat himself to sleep.

[–]canthisbemyhomework 1 point2 points ago

i remember when my sister told me this was possible. i complained to her one night that i was too hot with the blankets on, but freezing with them off. "dude... stick a leg out or something." "WHOAAA. YOU CAN DO THAT!?" good times.

[–]deefrances 1 point2 points ago

this is me for sure. the blankets have to cover the feet at least

[–]ThisIsNotYourBlog 1 point2 points ago

Thanks for pointing out something most everyone already at least knows about and/or reposts weekly

[–]Scuttlebuttz93 1 point2 points ago

Just right...until the monsters come and you're exposed to them

[–]veterejf 1 point2 points ago

Is there a lot heat that is lost through the feet? sometimes when I'm walking around the house and feeling hot, all I need to do is take off my socks or shoes(if I have them on) to feel a lot better

[–]Sporkbane 1 point2 points ago

This picture is inaccurate. His girlfriend/wife should clearly take all of the covers, thus leaving him to shiver in the cold, unforgiving night

[–]OhwhatupCarlandJonny 1 point2 points ago

Kill the repost! Kill it with fire!

[–]PurpleTripp 1 point2 points ago

No way!! Chest covered only. Legs and feet must be free to flail.

[–]TSolo315 1 point2 points ago

This was me last night, it only took me forty-five minutes to discover the perfect position was with blankets covering only one leg. It's not about security but temperature management!

[–]Happyginger 1 point2 points ago

I just want to say that every time I see this I think, "Who the fuck just covers up one leg?"

[–]ha_nope 1 point2 points ago

what an original idea for this picture.!

[–]brickstick 1 point2 points ago

Yes.

[–]larxiz 1 point2 points ago

and one hand under the pillow.. Perfect Shit.

[–]rager_face 1 point2 points ago

Repost.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points ago

This was a picture on my Heat/Mass Transport Exam. I forget the exact question but it had something to do with why does he feel just right with only the blanket over his one foot.

[–]polishdan 2 points3 points ago

I thought I was the only one.

[–]chaitan94 23 points24 points ago

[–]Paperplane1 1 point2 points ago

Why does this get upvoted?

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points ago

Oh my god. Reddit. Stop telling me that you sleep with one leg under the covers. PLEASE. I've literally seen this (or a rage-comic version of it) probably hundreds of times.

Can we just make a subreddit or something? r/howisleep?

[–]kashodi 0 points1 point ago

DO IT!!!

[–]Ryanthewise1 0 points1 point ago

I like to have my waist covered but put my leg over the sheets from the side.

[–]crashgold 0 points1 point ago

WHY DOES THIS HAPPEN?

And if it's winter I have that amount of foot sticking out.

[–]ahemsoaptin 0 points1 point ago

Cannot sleep without covers of some sort on and cannot have eyes open with the lights off. If I do, IT will devour me.

[–]Tetriana 0 points1 point ago

I'm more of a one leg out kinda girl myself.

[–]kashodi -1 points0 points ago

"That's what" -you

[–]StayFunky 0 points1 point ago

I do better with feet out, I need body coverage

[–]lite951 0 points1 point ago

For my girlfriend it's the other way around. She stays covered with just her foot hanging out. Temperature foot.

[–]Jackbear1 0 points1 point ago

So true!

[–]Skyrowind 0 points1 point ago

From the thumbnail it looked like a guide on how to draw the King of All Cosmos from Katamari.

[–]inertia186 0 points1 point ago

Dad differential thermal dynamics.

[–]TooSensitive 0 points1 point ago

In my experience, covering just the stomach with the blanket is just right.

[–]nayrryan 0 points1 point ago

Damn Truth

[–]LooseRuth 0 points1 point ago

Doomed to night sweats because if I let my feet out, my cat attacks them.

[–]Rohaq 0 points1 point ago

I thought I was the only one!

[–]Ixilary 0 points1 point ago

I couldn't sleep without a blanket. It's got nothing to do with temperature, it's just uncomfortable.

[–]Scadilla 0 points1 point ago

Something about the cool side of the pillow and how you can relate, because you hate it when your head gets hot and wish there was some kind of device that kept the pillow cool on both sides indefinitely.

[–]McFhurer 0 points1 point ago

nah the third one is monsters gonna kill you, switch back to too hot

[–]Lots42 0 points1 point ago

Once again, Reddit shares my insanity.

[–]siqniz 0 points1 point ago

thats exactly how I sleep. Feet gotta be coverd

[–]gmkirk13 0 points1 point ago

that is literally how im in the bed right now

[–]hellsnake08 0 points1 point ago

As a Floridian, I approve this post.

[–]erockjr 0 points1 point ago
