No. It was just bad construction. 23 died, 380 injured. Third floor fell two flights. The floor was initially designed as a roof but then plans changed and they added a floor. Building owners screwed up and didn't recognize the sagging floor as a warning sign. Instead they leveled it out with morter which added to the weight. Several people went to jail.

its crazy but somewhat expected that the building owners and the person who designed that method of construction all got convicted and served jail time. i dont know if i agree with that judgement or not, but it seems sort of unfair, except in the case of the building owners of course.

I believe the inventor of the method was jailed for his pushing the use of his unfounded (pun intended) technique when he should have known better.

When the gov't issues someone a license to design buildings this someone becomes responsible for anything that goes wrong. If it was found that they could have prevented the disaster but didn't for any reason they can be held responsible.

Right, but from that article it sounds as if had his method actually been implemented correctly that it would have been fine. Instead they ad-hoc added a floor, then removed supports and leveled the floor with grout. I don't know how you can blame an engineer for his design when it's not followed.

I was at a house party and a massive group hug developed while everyone was still jumping to the music. Floor collapsed, was only about a metre fall though so no one got badly hurt. The owner was like "fuck, lets put some chairs around the hole, rope it off, and get the music back on!"

the floor broke in such a way that only a few people fell the full distance, the floor sorta broke into a ramp so most people fell a shorter distance or pretty much just ended up sliding with it.
