I just don't know why we celebrate pirates, especially video game pirates. All this DRM and always online shit we're having to deal with is entirely their fault and yet they're seen as these valiant rebels fighting the oppressive gaming companies. I mean Is it really so wrong to try and stop people from stealing your products?

No, it's not. Though I've been over it so many times on reddit now it's tiresome, there's a number of benefits I'm too tired to write out (again). It is also however never going to go away, and instead of fighting it with draconian measures companies should find ways to utilise it, or just use better business practices, as opposed to wasting resources on it. Staying on topic, netflix is a great example of the industry finding new, innovative ways to deal with piracy, Spotify was too until you Americans ruined it for us by causing them to sell out on us that had used them from the start when it was entirely free. They only went pay when they included America and were profitable entirely free. Sucks.

Besides that, piracy does not necessarily mean a lost sale, calling it stealing is the wrong word, it's COPYwrite infringement for a reason, it's not taking something, it's not depriving the owner of original usage of the iterm (definition of stealing) it's copying something and using it without the owners permission. That however doesn't mean the owner lost a sale, the copier may never have bought the thing if copying weren't an option anyway, his view of the product may also convert further sales through recommendation, or he may have already paid for the product. For example, I've seen Avengers twice, once in theatre, once at home. That's not theft, nor depriving the content creator of any money, I would not have paid again if the option to copy weren't available to me.

I want you to try a little exercise. I want you to go into game or electronics store load your arms full of games and DVDs and try to walk out with them. I mean they are just copies of the games and movies printed on discs right? That's why we individual game discs as "copies" of the game and if they are just copies that means they're free right? When they inevitably stop you i want you to give them this argument and see how things turn out. No matter how you look at it you are demanding higher quality products delivered to you quickly and, most importantly, completely free. Industries as costly as the movie and gaming industry can't survive giving away their products for free. When a person downloads something for free that doesn't just equal a lost sale, It is the very definition of a lost sale. That person is receiving a product from a distributor in exchange for what? Appreciation? You think they're going to buy other products from that company if they've already pirated one product? If you can't afford to buy games or movies, tough shit. They are expensive to make and therefore must be expensive to buy otherwise no one would make games.

No, those are physical things you are depriving the shop of use of. There is a significant difference. Even courts and the law, which generally don't have a clue when it comes to the digital world, understand that theft is THEFT and COPYwrite is not.

Company makes a product. You download the product and give the company exactly no money. You have stolen the product. I really don't know where your moral footing is. I can understand people admitting that they steal shit because they don't want to pay for it but I don't understand you. How can a person be so entitled that they can justify having everything they want for free at the price of pretty much everybody? Game developers, game companies, distributors, customers, they are all suffering because of people like you. I go watch movies because 1.) I am impatient, and want to watch the movie when it first comes out, in high quality; 2.) I am an enthusiast of motion cinema, and believe that my money helps support quality films in the future; and 3.) I have a job and 8 dollars per ticket is not really a big deal.

I pirate movies because I want to watch it whenever I want. I would gladly pay some bucks, I just don't want to dress up, go to the next cinema and wait until the movie starts.
