I find it strange that something so pretty is constantly in the background... and I choose to go to the Hive.

[–]KindHeartsandCoronet 42 points43 points ago

Why would anyone choose to go to Hive?

[–]MalaTae 18 points19 points ago

Because vodka.

[–]Tarmagen 12 points13 points ago

1 quid drinks, easy women and/or men, darkness so you can strut your stuff in relative anonymity, without the fear of being judged for shaking your toosh.

What does it matter that the walls are dripping with sweat and the toilets are smaller then a cupboard and smell of sick and poo. I <3 the hive O.o

[–]GwelyMernans 31 points32 points ago

Hive: Where the men are real men, and the women are also real men.

[–]irishgeologist 6 points7 points ago

I must have gone to a different Hive. The one at Glasgow Uni beats it for horrendousness.

[–]typh0 7 points8 points ago

Cant spell HIVE without HIV !

[–]novum_vipera 0 points1 point ago

Holy shit does that still exist?

[–]angusross93 0 points1 point ago

Oh, I went with someone I know from Murano, que was all the way up that hill and round the corner, I ended up bailing and going to ABC, if its worse than Edi's Hive i'm glad i bailed.

[–]Hatham_tastic -1 points0 points ago

Hive used to be ok a few years back, now every time I end up there I get annoyed by various dick heads and always end up traipsing down to Banshees for a piss because the hive toilets are horrible and the queues are ridiculously long. Usually end up staying there and getting drunk in the film room.

[–]ChastityPanda 1 point2 points ago

There's a reasonable chance that you used to be one of the dickheads.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points ago

Seriously, that smell. You know you're not drunk enough for The Hive when you notice it.

[–]KindHeartsandCoronet 2 points3 points ago

You are a brave soul :P

[–]Scrooge_McDuck90 2 points3 points ago

I stopped going after it got overcrowded and they raised the price of their shitty drinks.

[–]Bubuloo 1 point2 points ago

Because £9 Pitchers, that's why!

[–]arienette11 1 point2 points ago

You don't. It chooses you.

[–]KindHeartsandCoronet 0 points1 point ago

Like chlamydia!

[–]SuperMeatBoy9 0 points1 point ago

It used to have a pretty good metal night back when it first opened. The only place you could ever hear Dethklok and Advent: One Winged Angel on a night out.

This is probably why they don't run that night anymore.

[–]deadgreystar 0 points1 point ago

Because they like to slide down rivers of spilled drink and broken glass? It's such a dive but at least it's better than Opium shudders.

[–]GwelyMernans 0 points1 point ago

I've never heard of Opium, funnily enough. Care to elaborate? It sounds intriguing.

[–]432 3 points4 points ago

The Opium is a rock bar that is pretty good if you like that kind of music.

[–]deadgreystar 2 points3 points ago

Imagine a den of inequity, add in some non-consensual sex and top it off with manky off-brand cola. Then you'll feel the despair of the rock bar Opium.

[–]rsharvey 2 points3 points ago

I think you mean a 'den of iniquity'..

Unless you're just really concerned about the concept of injustice, when it comes to night out.

:)

[–]deadgreystar 0 points1 point ago

I blame night time and drink, that's my story and I'm sticking to it!

[–]thedive 0 points1 point ago

I made The Dive

[–]KindHeartsandCoronet 0 points1 point ago

You are the hero we deserve :D

[–]GwelyMernans 0 points1 point ago

"Three friends like this"

I need to get new friends.

[–]onelessfixie 6 points7 points ago

Any love for Sneaky Pete's in Cowgate (just around the corner)? I was recently in Edinburgh and had a great time there.

[–]MalaTae 2 points3 points ago

Yeah I was there the other night after the Hive actually! It's a good shout :)

[–]onelessfixie 3 points4 points ago

p.s. happy cakeday!

[–]MalaTae 2 points3 points ago

Thanks, man!

[–]matrixman673a 1 point2 points ago

I remember that place from 20 years ago. Used to be another cool pub called Bannemans opposite with a back room filled with kegs (of beer, luckily).

[–]olypca 0 points1 point ago

Wait, Bannermans is closed now? :( I loved that place. What's there now?

[–]arienette11 0 points1 point ago

I was there in November, I think its still open!

[–]girvanryan 0 points1 point ago

bad memories

bad, bad memories...

[–]bawhamper 0 points1 point ago

Nice to know Sneaky's is still going. I was last in there 22 years ago, getting hammered at 2.30am.

[–]GLM_30 5 points6 points ago

Or Bar Salsa. It may be a dive but the drink is definitely cheap..

[–]Bladderboy 2 points3 points ago

Bar Salsa, where many a night out goes horribly, horribly wrong. Yet so, so good

[–]17Hongo 0 points1 point ago

there's a place like that in every city....

[–]GameCatW 0 points1 point ago

Used to be my favourite sorrow-drowning venue. Hasn't it closed down now?

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points ago

Still there as of last month, still smelling of piss.

[–]GLM_30 0 points1 point ago

Not unless it's closed down since Monday night.. Gotta love that place. And also still smelling of piss.

[–]MalaTae 0 points1 point ago

Aw I've never been! Sounds like its worth a try though haha

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points ago

I went to The Hive on New Year's. New Years. I was in Edinburgh for Hogmanay and I went to the fucking Hive.

[–]MalaTae 4 points5 points ago

Aw man, I'm so sorry :(

[–]McGanson 1 point2 points ago

I spent new years at the Hive too! I came all the way from Australia and got convinced to hit the hive for Hogmanay. Fuck.

[–]Scrooge_McDuck90 1 point2 points ago

I went to the hive for new years just after turning 18. I thought it was awesome. Three years later, never again.

[–]NiftySwifty 0 points1 point ago

While cool, the hive just smells of vomit to me.

[–]grog709 0 points1 point ago

AHHH! THE HIVE!!!! Goddammit that place was nearly the end of my study abroad group 2 years ago..

I swear it must be a crime to serve such cheap whiskey to Canadian students... There's a hole in a wall at the Castle Rock Hostel with my name on it (embarrassingly)..

[–]PAY_IN_TIGERS 0 points1 point ago

I think it's a pretty accurate reflection of Scottish society that when someone posts a picture of one of our most iconic buildings the conversation inevitably turns to alcohol.

Also Hive will NEVER be as much of a dive as Pearl Lounge in Aberdeen.

EDIT: Anything in Edinburgh will never be as much of a dive as Aberdeen City itself.

[–]MalaTae 0 points1 point ago

I'm actually Irish, further adding to the stereotype ;)

[–]scampy1989 0 points1 point ago

The Hive. There's just something about that place. I can be found there around 3 times a week...

[–]MalaTae 0 points1 point ago

If it's free, it's fair game.

[–]Reckonerz 60 points61 points ago

Sweet photo, but the HDR effect looks really tacky.

[–]mindcrack 5 points6 points ago

Just curious, as an amateur photographer who is thinking about dabbling with HDR, could you show me a photo that would look better of this same castle without HDR? I thought HDR is nice in bringing out things that are normally underexposed/hidden.

[–]fakealgore 13 points14 points ago

It is unless, like the guy that processed this picture, you overdo it.

[–]Reckonerz 3 points4 points ago

Yep, take the phone booth and nearby red shack for example. Redness is overpowering the lines of the structures, making them look messy relative to the detailed brickwork of the castle and surrounding scene.

[–]Inn-your-endo 0 points1 point ago

That isn't the HDR that's just over-saturation. This HDR hatred is getting thrown around by people who don't understand it, in the same way the comic sans hatred does..

[–]Spastic_hawk 0 points1 point ago

What's to understand about comic sans? I'm intrigued...

[–]Inn-your-endo 0 points1 point ago

You really want a full explanation? I'm doing a degree in Graphic Design, so it won't be a light read.

[–]Spastic_hawk 0 points1 point ago

Honestly quite interested. Don't need a thesis or anything, just a quick synopsis if you can be bothered. I've always disliked comic sans myself, although my girlfriend tells me many folk use it as it's easy to read, especially for the visually impaired. I believe this is why my local council insist on using it on all their correspondence - including tax bills, which is almost offensive...

[–]Inn-your-endo 3 points4 points ago

Shall we start with the name? Although Comic Sans was originally called “Comic Book” Connare decided that, that didn’t sound much like a name of a font. So despite some letters of the comic sans family having serifs, he decided to add in the ‘sans’ (Which if you’re not already aware is latin for minus or without and most fonts with ‘Sans in the name are short for Sans-Serif).

Now we can move on to the fact that the font was mimicking real comic book fonts. Connare made the entire family by looking at fonts from comic books and taking bits and bobs from each and it took him less than a week. It’s like Using arial Instead of Helvetica. But you don’t get the same people that complain about comic sans complaining about arial. In fact I bet the majority couldn’t even tell them apart. It’s like going to a brothel and paying for a hug.

Any decoration font that is trying to mimic something is just bad taste.

Now, what is by far the worst thing about comic sans is it’s ability to convince people into thinking it’s a good idea. They see it as easy to read and friendly, however it is known that sleek, sans serif fonts like helvetica are incredibly legible. Which is why you see most road sings and warnings in a sans-serif font. As for creating a friendly feeling there are other ways to go about doing this through colour and using a more rounded typeface.

There is so, so much more to rant about but it’s late at night and I’m probably starting to slur my spellings etc.

TL;DR

It’s not very nice to look at.

[–]Spastic_hawk 0 points1 point ago

Thanks for that. I mistakenly thought you were implying that people shouldn't be complaining about the ubiquity of Comic Sans, which I agree is an awful font. I'm still amazed that my local government offices use it to communicate serious matters to the public, like rent arrears etc. It's like a couple of care bear being employed as bounty hunters. Thanks again for the reply.

[–]TheSystem_IsDown 2 points3 points ago

High Dynamic Range lets you take the lighter darks and darker lights from multiple exposures. Use it to make me feel like my eyes are adjusting to the bright sky, and then the shade, and it will make the photo worth a nice long viewing. Use it to blow out the contrast, removing any shadows, and popping the colors into neon territory and it's just like when people are 'less subtle' with auto-tune in music.

[–]Smaskifa 2 points3 points ago

It's not that it's HDR, it's how the HDR is done. In this case, too strong. HDR is indeed great for making the shadows visible while preserving detail in the highlights.

[–]linds360 7 points8 points ago

I desaturated it, which makes it look a million times better imo.

[–]Mad_Sconnie 0 points1 point ago

Ironically, there is more subjective contrast here.

[–]williamwzl 0 points1 point ago

I'm no master photographer but the difference between this picture and the original is like the difference between the mood of the last Harry Potter and the first one, repsectively. So I like the more homely cozy looking one that's more saturated.

[–]dick_long_wigwam 0 points1 point ago

HDR = Batman Forever

[–]kasperjj 0 points1 point ago

Uh.. this one goes to 11

[–]lagasan 0 points1 point ago

To be fair, people always bitch about HDR, but really it's just the saturation/tone mapping that's overdone. It's perfectly possible to take a HDR shot that looks more natural to tone, while still getting the full range of exposure.

[–]GLM_30 21 points22 points ago

The Grassmarket is my favourite place for heading out in Edinburgh. Will definitely miss it when I finish uni.

[–]17Hongo 7 points8 points ago

Home to Mr Wood's Fossils - the only fossil dealer accessible to southern Scotland and northern England. I spent some good money in that shop.

[–]Nyanite 1 point2 points ago

CTRL + F: "Fossil"

Well played sir, it's a marvelous shop.

[–]matrixman673a 0 points1 point ago

Oh my that place is still there! Yay.

[–]17Hongo 0 points1 point ago

I think it'll be there for a long time to come - he does a roaring trade during the holidays.

[–]rube 4 points5 points ago

My wife and I spent a few weeks in Edinburgh two years ago. Our hotel was a short distance from the Grassmarket so we wandered through it and up the hill a number of times.

Seeing this picture makes me want to go back, great city.

[–]_Equinox_ 35 points36 points ago

What's TARDIS doing in this photo?

[–]Deddan 12 points13 points ago

It's a family sized one, too. Even bigger on the inside.

[–]hjostrander 7 points8 points ago

This one has five swimming pools in its library

[–]ProfTroll 7 points8 points ago

These were used as Police Boxes back in the day before public telephones etc. Police Officers could run to the nearest box and use the phone to call HQ for backup etc. They were basically Police only phone boxes. This is what the Tardis is based on.

Some even had air-raid warning sirens on top of them. In the area I grew up in, there was one of these not 50 yards from my house. Some kids broke in and got it started, the noise of the thing was awesome.

[–]slowly_over 2 points3 points ago

They're currently up for sale, if anybody wants to buy one (seriously).

[–]sir_brontosaurus 0 points1 point ago

is it just me or do they look rather stout. I thought scottish people were giants, or maybe that's just william wallace..., "7 FEET TALL AND CAN SHOOT LIGHTENING FROM HIS EYES"

[–]rsharvey 1 point2 points ago

Na they're stockier and shorter up here than your average european man. And that's just the women..

But seriously. Watch the Scottish football team - they're the most athletic people we could muster.. Batter is a hell of drug.

[–]medusemoisie 0 points1 point ago

Yeah I saw one on sale last week. If only I had money...

[–]Woodwald 0 points1 point ago

And the DARSIT of inspector spacetime is here too.

I wish the view was that pretty when I drunkenly stumble out of Opium...

[–]jtravinski 7 points8 points ago

I just got back from a trip there and we stayed at a hotel in the Grassmarket with a view very similar to that. This photo is significantly better than any I took during my stay. Nice work.

[–]rube 1 point2 points ago

Our hotel was down the street near a bunch of strip clubs that a local called "the pussy triangle" or something similar. :)

I couldn't convince my wife to enter any of the said strip clubs, but we did see a number of other great things while visiting.

[–]blueocean43 15 points16 points ago

You mean the pubic triangle?

[–]rube 0 points1 point ago

That would make more sense, but I recall her calling it the pussy triangle.

[–]InMagicHatWeTrust 6 points7 points ago

Definitely the pubic triangle.

[–]Carnationlilyrose 4 points5 points ago

Definitely. Although it's also home to a surprising number of secondhand bookshops. Caters to an interesting range of tastes.

[–]InMagicHatWeTrust 0 points1 point ago

...and the only cash machine I've ever seen that dispenses exclusively £5 notes. Stripper cash.

[–]Carnationlilyrose 0 points1 point ago

Yes, my son mentioned that to me. He lives nearby (he's at the art school there) and as an impoverished student he finds it quite handy.

[–]rsharvey 0 points1 point ago

One of my friends from school thought we were heading to the 'three pubes'.. Looking back I wonder why he was so excited..

[–]Carnationlilyrose 5 points6 points ago

One of the pole dancing establishments is named after the infamous Burke and Hare, since the area is where they carried out most of their murders. An interesting combination, it's always seemed to me. I'm not the target audience for the pole dancers, so maybe I'm not best placed to comment, but I'd find the mix of commercial sex and brutal murder for financial gain a teensy bit unerotic.

[–]rube 3 points4 points ago

It may seem so, but the bare female form has a wonderful way of making everything better. So perhaps the businesses were opened in order to erase the foul memory of the area. :)

[–]ProfTroll 3 points4 points ago

Having being born in Edinburgh and being a frequent visitor in my youth to the 'Pubic Triangle' (also worked in the Military kitchens in the Castle as my first job), the Burke and Hare is a shithole and i'm qualified to say so;)

I went with a few mates for a 'show'. While we were waiting for it to start, there was a pool table right in the middle of the pub as you walked in, so we had a game. Half way through the game, some old hag from behind the bar sweeps all the balls into the pockets and slaps a piece of plywood over the whole table.

The most pitiful, overweight, greasy slapper i'd seen in years, then climbed onto the table and proceeded to shove ice cubes from a plastic cup, in and out of her vag. This was the 'show'. The hag then came round with a pint glass demanding we all pay £10 for the performance. Oh, and the doors got locked before she started so we were basically forced by the bouncers to pay up. I was winning the game as well...

TL;DR - Scottish strippers are nasty!

Edit: Grammar was and still is shameful.

[–]Carnationlilyrose 0 points1 point ago

I guess it depends on your point of view. My own female form just makes me more depressed.... Damn you, age and gravity.

[–]rube 0 points1 point ago

Bah, be thankful for the health and the life that you have.

I'm sure there is a man (or woman) in your life who enjoys your aged and gravity-ravaged form. And if not, just realize that there are plenty of men (or women) out there who would.

[–]Carnationlilyrose 0 points1 point ago

Bless. Yes, there is. An amazingly tolerant man, all things considered!

[–]mad_pineapple 1 point2 points ago

£20 for a lesbian show in Bottoms Up. So worth it.

[–]rube 0 points1 point ago

Another person commented that they're terrible. I couldn't quite convince my wife to go into one with me while we were there so I can't report. :)

[–]luksy 0 points1 point ago

I always knew it as the "Golden Triangle".

[–]rube 0 points1 point ago

There's a Thai restaurant that sells an appetizer called golden triangles.

[–]dontwantablowjob 4 points5 points ago

This is a pic I took roughly just outside my office. I love this city. (Moved here from Australia.)

[–]Dented 8 points9 points ago

HDR ALL THE THINGS.

[–]pearljamman010 2 points3 points ago

I would like to live here.

[–]deadgreystar 5 points6 points ago

You wouldn't like to live there Friday-Sunday. That's the Grassmarket were many a 20something heads to to get pissed. My friend had a flat there and she hated it because it was unbearably noisy at the weekend.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point ago

Yeah, this is stag do, hen night, tourist central. Although the Bow Bar up Victoria Street is great, and the Last Drop is pretty good too.

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points ago

It's not as great as it looks.

[–]wcbal 10 points11 points ago

Aye it is.

[–]GwelyMernans 2 points3 points ago

I find that the majority of the neds congregate in Dalkeith, though.

[–]kerzii 1 point2 points ago

I live just outside Dalkeith (Easthouses); I can confirm this.

[–]luksy 0 points1 point ago

Craigmillar.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points ago

Grassmarket may not be amazing, but it definitely isn't that. Can get pretty rowdy at the weekends but never ned-y.

[–]KipStar 2 points3 points ago

Yay you can see my flat in this picture :D

[–]97faugre01 2 points3 points ago

Ah, Armstrongs is right round the corner there, greatest clothing store I've ever been in.

[–]cr3ative 15 points16 points ago

Oh good, another photo that looks absolutely nothing like real life

[–]Mark080 11 points12 points ago

[–]onlysame1 1 point2 points ago

damn, how old are those buildings?

[–]Mark080 10 points11 points ago

There has been a royal castle where Edinburgh castle is since at least the reign of David I in the 12th century. The grassmarket area also retains uses such as taverns and shops which have been here since the 1500s. http://www.grassmarket.net/grassmarkethistory.asp

[–]FMERCURY 1 point2 points ago

Good thing it's a work of art and not an attempt at documentation, then.

[–]alewis14151 4 points5 points ago

Had a swell lunch in the restaurant with yellow lights. Edinburgh's a totally great town.

[–]King-of-Spades42 1 point2 points ago

one of my favorite cities

[–]DerpinaSD 1 point2 points ago

took a walking ghost tour there, amazing town

[–]Bunnystrength 1 point2 points ago

I'm over in Edinburgh for the month of may. On a tour right now...lot of castles http://i.imgur.com/kkJqO.jpg

[–]AMDcze 0 points1 point ago

I was there 7 months ago, unfortunatelly my poor quality photo is without the awesome bag-piping guy (but he was there too). Scotland is such a nice country and I would very much like to visit it at least one more time.

[–]zombifox 1 point2 points ago

I stayed in Edinburgh for a few days last summer during the Fringe Festival and Tattoo. It was an amazing environment to be in and the city was absolutely beautiful.

[–]hentaipanda 1 point2 points ago

[–]Just_Livin_Life 1 point2 points ago

There is such thing as too much HDR...

[–]madcol 2 points3 points ago

I'm grateful that I get to see this every day on my way home. I love the atmosphere the picture suggests.

[–]Gutpunch_McRodbender 2 points3 points ago

I remember sitting in the Elephant House (Where J.K. Rowling wrote the beginnings of Harry Potter) and wondering why the hell that castle looked so familiar...

[–]deadgreystar 3 points4 points ago

A) She didn't write them there but in the no-longer-open Nicholson's Cafe which was across from the University of Edinburgh quadrangle. It was owned by her brother, and she got free coffee when she wasn't a temp-teacher.

B) Hogwarts was in fact based roughly on Heriot's School which is close to the Castle but looks much more Gothic

C) The Elephant House perpetrate this story because it nets them business, her agent confirmed to my old company a few years back.

[–]neophoebus 1 point2 points ago

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point ago

I was taking a tour of Uni exchange students and while we were up at the castle they asked me what the "other castle" down the hill was, and I had to tell them it was my dad's old school... I kind of take Edinburgh for granted I think.

[–]Gutpunch_McRodbender 0 points1 point ago

iiiiinteresting. They did have great food though, and an awesome view of the castle. Thanks for the info!

[–]ardbeg 0 points1 point ago

Its a chinese buffet now, no?

[–]deadgreystar 0 points1 point ago

It was the last time I went past.

[–]botterwattle 0 points1 point ago

It's now a nice little bistro called Spoon.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point ago

Yeah I remember when the Elephant House's selling point was all the model elephants - a simpler time...

They were even selling the Harry Potter angle way back then though, although only that she wrote some of the first one or two there, and this was before Potter-mania, so are you sure she didn't write some of it there?

[–]deadgreystar 0 points1 point ago

She wrote the majority of the first book in Nicholson's cafe, then when she got a decent deal wrote full time in her house in Merchiston (to the south west of the city centre). She wrote the final book in a room in the Balmoral Hotel.

This information is relatively well known but my old workplace queried it with her agent and it was confirmed. She never wrote in the Elephant House, they just took advantage of the fact it was close to the original location after the cafe shut down.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point ago

Well they're very elaborate in their deception then, they have stories about her sharing tables as you do in the Elephant house, and looking out onto the graveyard of Greyfriars to get her inspiration.

My Gran lives in Merchiston, I know it well. As does Dylan Moran, you see him about the coffee shops, unkempt as ever...

[–]idrivearangerover 1 point2 points ago

Did you leave a note in one of the desks?

[–]TheCoolGuy 1 point2 points ago

Quick, let's play a game of "Who can add the most effects to a photo" game, we will judge it by how much it looks like a 12 year old girls first photo with a DSLR. I'll give this a 11/10.

[–]tesla3327 3 points4 points ago

Is that a TARDIS?

[–]J-ohn 13 points14 points ago

The tardis is simply a police box, there are a few left in the UK.

I was in Edinburgh a week ago, stayed in The Place on York Place. Wonderful city, would love to go again.

[–]Invisible_Walrus 0 points1 point ago

10/10 would go...

[–]Rolten 0 points1 point ago

Going here this summer, can't wait ;)

[–]SpaghettiCat 0 points1 point ago

I was right there, on Grassmarket, a week ago, on my first holiday to Edinburgh. Beautiful place, wish I could have stayed a bit longer but sunny days in a row was probably a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

[–]Gengi 0 points1 point ago

Forgot what sub reddit I was looking at. I almost said what game is that?

[–]mecrosis 0 points1 point ago

[–]Newe6000 0 points1 point ago

I remember visiting it.

Best. Castle. Ever.

[–]idonlikeusernames 0 points1 point ago

I thought there was a TARDIS there for a second.

[–]Zernhelt 0 points1 point ago

Edinburgh is beautiful. The filters on your picture are not.

[–]wicode 0 points1 point ago

you can see my old flat window in that picture. good times.

[–]Pancake11 0 points1 point ago

This castle has a long and bloody history. Laying emphasis on the 'bloody'.

[–]Polite_Werewolf 0 points1 point ago

I went there about 15 years ago. Very interesting place. Oh, and i went there with a large collection of my family and my aunt was crapped on by a bird. Ah, memories.

[–]StAlfonzo 0 points1 point ago

Biddy Mulligans....great pub!

[–]Scribbles1 0 points1 point ago

Edinburgh is a shit hole. stayed here all my life, dontwantablowjob is silly moving from Australia to here

[–]isaac1682 0 points1 point ago

Winter is coming

[–]Durgo 0 points1 point ago

I went there when I was a kid. The highlight for my 14 year-old self was the bigass cannon.

[–]mrdanihilist 0 points1 point ago

I visited the castle when I was thirteen. The guides constantly told us that the castle was never even attacked since the fortifications were so well known for being impenetrable. That's efficiency.

[–]BeautifulGanymede 0 points1 point ago

stuff white people build

[–]miffy303 0 points1 point ago

This is one of my favourite places on Earth! I lived in London for a year and a half and made quite a few trips up to Edinburgh. Most stunning city in the UK. Four hours on a train doesn't get you anywhere nearly as beautiful in Australia haha.

[–]MichiganRedditor 0 points1 point ago

The Tardis got a little fat

[–]AtrumTalio 0 points1 point ago

I did a double take. I thought the blue thing was a TARDIS.

[–]CdeoD 0 points1 point ago

Wow, why are there so many processed photos flooding /r/pics, this is getting out of control, how about some original content?

[–]Aspel 0 points1 point ago

And underneath is the White Council headquarters.

[–]aeliustehman 0 points1 point ago

GAHHH I miss Edinburgh. It's so pleasant. ._.

[–]RoomAndAFire 0 points1 point ago

Seems like the Doctor and the Inspector dropped by for a rendezvous.

[–]nitefang 0 points1 point ago

I remember skating down that.

[–]MoonJive 0 points1 point ago

Reminds me of the last scene in Porno.

[–]Predator_ 0 points1 point ago

I spot a medieval TARDIS

[–]pennylane_3 0 points1 point ago

!!! that's right at the bottom of Victoria Street, yeah? i used to live right across from La Maison Bleu :) I miss Edinburgh so much..

[–]Charging_in 0 points1 point ago

Can someone photoshop Mariokart characters into this? Reminds me sharply of bowsers castle in Mariokart 64.

[–]bawheid 0 points1 point ago

It doesn't look like that in the real world.

[–]Crazyturn 0 points1 point ago

After seeing this last night I had decided to go for a wander down here today. But then rain :( I don't know why I expected anything different.

[–]GoodGuyMoses -1 points0 points ago

Once again Scotland is portrayed as a beautiful place. I live there. It's not. It's shit.

[–]Sensiemelia 0 points1 point ago

The tardis' (tardii?) are up for sale at the moment. You can bid for them in auction. They have to be moved though, unless you get planning permission from the (arcane and grossly unhelpful) Edinburgh City Council. Would make a nice shed though =D

[–]eddy_butler 0 points1 point ago

I'm living in the Caledonian Hotel at the moment and have the pleasure of waking up to this every morning.

[–]xtian11 0 points1 point ago

Ahh this was taken on the day where there was only partial cloud. Fun day.

[–]radgie 3 points4 points ago

I remember that day, it was wonderful

[–]Wingthor 0 points1 point ago

I love this place, whenever I'm out for a drive I usually go through the grassmarket and head around and up Arthur's Seat.

It's good to park up in the Radisson and go for a wander.

[–]RelaxErin 0 points1 point ago

Beautiful. I was only able to spend 1 day in Edinburgh last summer but I hope to spend many more in the future.
