There's your problem, son! I've been medicated for bullshit reasons a couple times before when I felt the same way you do and believe me- DEPRESSION PILLS CAUSE PHYSICAL ADDICTION. The longest I took mine was for 2 months and it left me with hot/cold flashes, uncontrollable thoughts, bi-polar disorder and headaches for weeks after. The best thing you can do is to GET THE FUCK OFF THOSE PILLS. Go outside and get sunshine. I bet your psychiatrist didn't tell you that sunlight absorbed through skin actually produces NATURAL "happy" (was it serotonin? I forget) chemicals. Exercise does the same. So does eating natural foods (no fast/junk food or soda, they also cause physical dependencies). Seriously, just do those 3 things and your life will improve dramatically. I know it's tough to get energized if you're depressed, so if you still feel like you need some sort of fix then go buy weed. It's all natural and will help your depression more than pharma pills. Plus it won't make you physically dependant.

I'm speaking from experience and you don't need a medical degree to weigh the pros and cons of all the physical side effects that come from antidepressants, when simple exercise and sunshine actually does what antidepressants try to do. Seriously, haven't you ever seen any ads for shit like prozac? Exercise releases endorphins, which make you happy. Pills turn you into a zombie.

And who the fuck are you? Just a condescending asshole. I'm trying to help because I've been there.

Who should this man listen to, a person on reddit or a board certified doctor with 7+ years of intensive training?

I'm a medical student, actually taking pharmacology right now. With access to medical databases I've found no conclusive studies that show endorphins or endogenous opiods are released when exposed to UV rays.

Even if sunlight helped, sitting in the sun for a long enough time to "release serotonin" (somehow avoiding cancer causing UVB rays) will definitely NOT have near the same effect as medications. Depression is a serious thing involving many brain chemicals that need to be altered in many different ways, each depending on the individual.

Telling someone to stop taking their meds is a foolish and dangerous thing to do. Maybe he should talk to his doctor about how his current prescriptions aren't helping, and he can find a better alternative, possibly without pills.

There's a million and one things you can do by yourself that are way better alone. Exercise, single player games, career workaholic, literally thousands. Hell you don't need friends there's lots of fun things to do like go to the movies, watch tv, go to the theatre. Literally hundreds of things to keep you happy. You can keep yourself distracted in a myriad of ways, reading, writing, paintings. Tens of things to distract yourself. But really there is only one thing that you can do to help yourself. And I don't know what it is, only you do.

Protip: Being loved by someone else does not validate your life, it merely compliments it, for better or worse. It is very much a "grass is greener" situation in many cases, I know plenty of people who go from one long term relationship to another, THEY ARE NO HAPPIER THAN MY SINGLE FRIENDS. Some times, they're MORE unhappy.
