I hate when people say this is some sort of abuse or cruelty. Dogs absolutely love to please their owner, and if the owner wants the dog to wait 5 seconds before eating all of the delicious treats in his mouth, then the dog will happily oblige. In fact, this exercise helps the dog build trust in his owner, because the dog knows that he will get to eat the treats in the end, but if he fucks up and eats them right away, he won't be getting any more.

Damn I love dogs so much. I wish I had one right now.

Just like when humans overcome an obstacle and are then praised and get ahead afterwards dogs also feel that same sort off accomplishment and happiness when they please their masters. The happiest dogs are usually those trained like this. Also healthy dogs tend to be happier(just like humans) and people who train their dogs tend to also regulate their dog's diet. This dog had no discipline before and would eat of the table even when told not to, it needed drastic training that's why it has the crazy face. i doubt it makes that face now when told to stay because it knows it will get treats and also please it's master not simply eat forget and not feel any accomplishment.
