Inertia is a property of matter.

[–]end42 2 points3 points ago

I think I've just been McGurk'ed.

[–]electricmonk9 0 points1 point ago

Come here Brendan, I wanna talk to you.

[–]abdominal_Snowman 0 points1 point ago

Had dinner with him once a couple years ago. He's not at all like what you'd expect, far edgier and extremely good at cocktail chatter.

[–]miso_Reno 12 points13 points ago

Looking back I enjoyed the hell out of science class because of Bill Nye but it was the primary tool of some of my middle school science teachers. Awesome but kinda lazy.

[–]sicengel663 5 points6 points ago

I actually listened to his teachings though

[–]Slinkyfest2005 7 points8 points ago

Is there equivalent programming nowadays? I remember Bill Nye, The Magic School-bus, Zaboomafoo, and all sorts of educational programming when I was a kid. Did children's TV jump its educational shark?

Hell, all of those shows encouraged a lively interest in the sciences and the natural world. That, and a father who was like a personal version of David Sazuki (sans the degree's, awards, television shows, and formal education)

I am still in awe of how much he knew about everything. Little tidbits, facts and rules and he could narrow in on a nest or spot an animal from hundreds of feet away with little to no trouble.

[–]oubliable 2 points3 points ago

Don't forget shows like Art Attack! I loved that show, it was so creative, and really helped me develop an interest in art. :)

[–]Slinkyfest2005 0 points1 point ago

Ha that's right. I loved those segments, seeing it all come together.

[–]MTGandP 1 point2 points ago

Is there equivalent programming nowadays?

Cyberchase. IMO, the best educational show of the past ten years.

[–]Slinkyfest2005 0 points1 point ago

Haven't seen it. Obviously I don't spend enough time with the niece if I don't know any current educational programs.

[–]sicengel663 1 point2 points ago

I myself enjoy talking to people who are just full of useless information you tend to learn so much

[–]DavieJones333 12 points13 points ago

I never noticed the Disney logo up there...

[–]ImposterProfessorOak 1 point2 points ago

i think they must have added it in later... because i don't remember it either and the wiki picture doesnt have it.

[–]DavieJones333 0 points1 point ago

Damn corporations. Ruining everything that made our childhood great.

[–]alecyo12 5 points6 points ago

Or if they played eyewitness

[–]rasta_lion 5 points6 points ago

Bill Nye on the TV cart... Now we have projectors and Julius Sumner Miller

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points ago

My 11th grade chemistry teacher used to show us episodes of Bill Nye all the time. The best day in school indeed.

[–]RonanNoodles 2 points3 points ago

You even included the school TV stand. Nostalgia overload!

[–]TheTossedCone 2 points3 points ago

YOU HAVE TO TAKE NOTES

[–]pebohead 2 points3 points ago

It bothers me that the gif doesn't quite loop properly.

[–]The_Curly_Council 7 points8 points ago

[–]SkinnyJeansMan 1 point2 points ago

Bill got me through some tough physics classes

[–]Tom_Z 1 point2 points ago

Does anyone remember the "I-G-N-E-O-U-S, IGNEOUS. ROCK." song? I'm not sure if it was on Bill Nye or not, but I remember that song so well.

[–]ncoomer 1 point2 points ago

Field day was still better.

[–]timberwolf5922 1 point2 points ago

Actually got to see him speak recently. He's as goofy in person as he is on the show. Smart guy though and he kept impatient, little me entertained way back when and taught me something.

[–]Parakirby 1 point2 points ago

If you like Bill Nye, you also might like http://www.youtube.com/user/scishow

[–]molmu 1 point2 points ago

[–]Madrugar 1 point2 points ago

I don't understand this, whenever we had to watch this in school no one enjoyed it.

[–]SubtleMockery 1 point2 points ago

I used to skip school to watch this.

[–]panaz 1 point2 points ago

This and the magic school bus. Could watch them all day!

[–]SilentOneEye 1 point2 points ago

You forgot Beakman's World and also magic school bus.

[–]f1rstperson 1 point2 points ago

The one time we watched Bill Nye in school it was the Sex Ed episode.

I've blocked it out.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points ago

They need a show like this for adults. I'm not in elementary anymore!

[–]Ziggerton 1 point2 points ago

Aka, the science teacher has a hangover-day

[–]BIO_Wolf 1 point2 points ago

Not when you're in Science 30 and you're the wrong class (ugh, should of went for Biology or Physics).

[–]rockne 1 point2 points ago

I can't see one of those TV's without thinking about the day one fell on a girl in my class. Before you ask, yes, it was awesome.

[–]koneko-j 1 point2 points ago

We watched Beakman's World instead...

[–]LoadingArt 1 point2 points ago

my favorite part about having gone to a terrible school is all of your teachers don't care and are awful, videos, videos everywhere.

[–]Mitz510 1 point2 points ago

Bill Nye your momma's guy. Bill! Bill! Bill!

That is what people in my class always said.

[–]wingedpegasus 1 point2 points ago

BILL BILL BILL BI- drat! Another chance at karma ruined! If it wasn't for those meddling redditors...

[–]mchap 1 point2 points ago

He is my god!

[–]qrtr_inch_seam 1 point2 points ago

I showed Bill Nye sometimes, I contributed to the downfall of the next generation and I have no regrets.

[–]Sharkbate12 1 point2 points ago

My science teacher would show us Mythbusters instead.

[–]SirArseToucher 0 points1 point ago

[–]pshohcaitlin 0 points1 point ago

You know what's the only thing better than that? Bill Nye the Science Guy AND pajama day! All in the same day!

[–]DonaldsPizzaHaven 0 points1 point ago

DID YOU KNOW THAT? ... NOW YOU KNOW

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point ago

BILL NYE YOUR MOMS A GUY

[–]johnny_appletits 0 points1 point ago

Dear god I just had a pavlovian boner.

[–]d-nj 0 points1 point ago

Mr. Wizard > Bill Nye

[–]Broodwitch 0 points1 point ago

This makes me feel old. My best day always consisted of them breaking out the old projector with film in the cans and showing us Fat Albert.

[–]UndiscloseDesires 0 points1 point ago

My cooperating teacher during student teaching showed the class two Bill Nye videos in the past month to go along with my rocks and minerals unit. Brought me back to my own elementary school memories.

[–]orzydorzy 0 points1 point ago

[–]imright_anduknowit 0 points1 point ago

Nice Photoshopping. LOL. Too bad Bill Nye didn't teach Photoshop.

[–]FomorianKing 0 points1 point ago

Science is awesome!

[–]mimus09 0 points1 point ago

Not gonna lie, I never watched that (or don't remember). Until now, I didn't even know it was by Disney.

[–]silentfal 0 points1 point ago

[–]The_Arakihcat -1 points0 points ago

lik dis in 1 second if you agree

[–]ElectronicDrug -1 points0 points ago

THIS ISN'T FUNNY

[–]kkkilla -2 points-1 points ago

You have to use a magic wand tool to select all the white if you want to cut it out. Set the tolerance to like 5. Otherwise just leave it on the white background because this looks terrible.

[–]XNixk -1 points0 points ago

To true.

[–]KajiKaji -5 points-4 points ago

WTF is this shit? The only thing we got to watch on TV in school was Creflo Dollar and TD Jakes sermons or if we were lucky we'd get to watch someone like Jesse Duplantis...

[–]MrWinks 10 points11 points ago

Are you just making up names? Where are you?

[–]KajiKaji 0 points1 point ago

Those guys are TV pastors and I went to a christian school.

[–]NewDrekSilver 0 points1 point ago

TV Pastors? Those guys that brainwash people into thinking they can cure you of cancer?

[–]KajiKaji -1 points0 points ago

Nah, They aren't faith healers and they aren't really into condemning people. They were more into teaching the bible and the meanings behind the stories and sharing their own stories. They were quite different than Benny Hinn or Pat Robertson.

[–]NewDrekSilver -1 points0 points ago

Just out of curiousity, are you still a Christian after being in a really Catholic school? Most people I know who were raised in Catholic schools grew to resent Christianity and religion in general.

[–]KajiKaji 0 points1 point ago

It wasn't a Catholic school, It was a non-denominational christian school. No, I've always been an atheist but I don't resent the church at all. It was a good environment for us kids that wanted to learn but were having difficulties in public schools for whatever reason. It wasn't all biblical teachings. We had a bible class twice a week, I think.

I actually really liked the dynamic that church had going. Everyone was heavily involved in the church and it was a real sense of community. They had fundraising events, fish fries, they ran a food bank and helped a lot of people. They were genuinely nice people. If you were in the hospital, they'd come and visit you. If someone died they'd try to help with funeral costs. I wish I was as altruistic as some of the people that ran that church and school.

[–]MrWinks -1 points0 points ago

oh god. I hope you ran like hell as soon as you had the financial means and a car.

[–]ErrantWhimsy 2 points3 points ago

What? Not even Veggie Tales?

[–]KajiKaji 1 point2 points ago

I was a little old for Veggie Tales.
