Gatheists are the most prosecuted group.

[–]ucofresh 1 point2 points ago

Same with with.. As a gay atheist it does tend to suck sometimes.

[–]ExcessivePunctuation 1 point2 points ago

Hey, straight atheists have to sift through all this image macro pseudo-meme spam too. It's the ass cancer of any public forum.

How about a gay atheist communist furry?

As an atheist I can easily say this is a repost!

[–]shredderman22 2 points3 points ago

the very first thing i noticed is the pic is backwards.

[–]AlRubyx 2 points3 points ago

What the fuck is with all the gay hate in this thread? I thought /r/atheism was extremely gay friendly, but all the asshats past about halfway down the comments are just being fucking douchebags. Seriously /r/atheism? I thought you were better than this.

[–]mmm_pbj_sammich 1 point2 points ago

I noticed this, too. If you look at comments on other posts tonight it seems as though /r/atheism has been taken over by anti-atheists.

[–]napoleonsolo 1 point2 points ago

It's been this way for a while. When r/atheism became a default sub, all new redditors were automatically subscribed. There were about 200K subscribers then, now there are 750k. Theists likely outnumber atheists in r/atheism. That's why it seems bipolar. It only takes a dozen or so assholes to skew the comments thread, out of several hundred thousand new visitors.

[–]AlRubyx 1 point2 points ago

Why was /r/atheism made into a default sub? That's just a terrible idea.

[–]mmm_pbj_sammich 0 points1 point ago

I probably wouldn't have found and enjoyed /r/atheism if it wasn't a default.

[–]AlRubyx 1 point2 points ago

But it's just asking for spam and off-topic shit.

[–]mmm_pbj_sammich 0 points1 point ago

That's very true. I'm going to try to make a comparison, it might not make sense: it's kind of like atheist billboards. Atheists see them and think "Great! It's good to see there are others like me!" People who don't really care see them and might think "Huh, that kinda makes sense. I'm going to look into this atheism thing more." Religious folk see them and think "Those baby-eaters are trying to persecute me! I'll put a John 3:16 billboard right in front of that one!"

It's sort of a catch-22 I suppose. Either you keep it a hidden sub-reddit and miss a lot of supporters or make it a default and gain a bunch of jerks.

[–]mmm_pbj_sammich 0 points1 point ago

Yeah I've noticed it in the past, but last night it seemed like every post was swarmed with opposing posts/downvotes more than I've ever seen. Maybe it was opposite day?

[–]johnclarkbadass 0 points1 point ago

How do you feel about the 1st Amendment in North Carolina?

[–][deleted] ago

[deleted]

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points ago

I'm Canadian and even I have a deep-seated hate for states like NC.

We mostly shake our heads at how fucked up the US is (no offense of course). It has its good points, but your government sure sucks.

[–]AtomsInMyAnus -2 points-1 points ago

No offense taken, its true.

[–]ringfortheking99 3 points4 points ago

This just reminded me of when the town of South Park banned the word 'niggerguy.'

[–]kratistos 1 point2 points ago

Is it your opinion that homosexuals are the most persecuted group in America?

[–]Xaxxon 2 points3 points ago

Why has /r/atheism turned into "complain about gay-related stuff" place? doesn't gay stuff has its own place? Atheism has nothing to do with how you feel about people being gay.

[–]TheSnowNinja 2 points3 points ago

Why? Because it has been on the news and on everyone's mind. North Carolina bans gay marriage, Obama comes out in support of gay marriage, etc.

How does it relate to atheism? Most people who want to ban gay marriage are religious people who think homosexuality is 'evil.' Religion is used as an excuse for bigotry.

Gay prejudice from religious people has never been completely absent here. It is just more noticeable these days because it is a prominent social issue.

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points ago

Atheism has nothing to do with how you feel about people being gay.

This meme poses relevant questions about some Christians perception of themselves as being persecuted, whereas the reality is that the same people are most often the ones doing the persecuting.

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points ago

Seriously? Mocking (and therefore persecuting) Christianity in a post mocking persecution by christians? What has this forum come to?

this post is a self-referential dung-heap of contradictions, and I'm surprised it hasn't imploded due to interwoven inconsistency.

[–][deleted] -3 points-2 points ago

You think mockery is the same thing as persecution? Dude, I think you might have a persecution complex.

[–]Xaxxon 0 points1 point ago

But, to post in atheism, why wouldn't you title it: "As an atheist, this absolutely infuriates me" ?

/r/atheism is not /r/christianbashing. It's not on topic to post any type of anti-christian blather.

[–]napoleonsolo -3 points-2 points ago

It's not on topic to post any type of anti-christian blather.

Who the fuck do you think you are to tell us what is or is not on-topic?

[–]Xaxxon 1 point2 points ago

Someone that knows what words mean?

[–]4chans_for_pussies 1 point2 points ago

As a pot smoker, this infuriates me as well.

[–]85h342tht 2 points3 points ago

Because clearly, homosexuals are the most persecuted group in the United States.

[–]AlRubyx 0 points1 point ago

... And what would you say is the most persecuted group, huh?

[–]85h342tht 0 points1 point ago

Pedophiles and transsexuals, to name two groups more persecuted than homosexuals.

Also, homosexuality and transsexualism and pedophilia are all extremely different things and in no way related.

[–]AlRubyx 0 points1 point ago

For one, Pedophiles kinda deserve to be persecuted. Acting on Pedophilia can ruin an innocent child's life, acting on Homosexuality just results in fun. :3 For two, I'll give you transsexuals. They're a little more persecuted than Homosexuals.

[–]85h342tht 0 points1 point ago

First of all, no group of people or person should ever be persecuted or mistreated simply for the way they are, a way they have no control over. Ever. Secondly, if a person decides to act in a way that harms other people, then that person is a criminal and will lose certain rights after due process. This is not persecution, this is our justice system. Thirdly, transsexuals are more than "a little more persecuted" than homosexuals. Considering the president of the United States just publicly endorsed gay marriage, and the majority of the country approves of this endorsement, I thought this would be pretty clear considering there is legislation trying to ban transsexuals from using the bathroom they should be allowed to use. That, coupled with the fact that post-op transsexuals are the most suicidal demographic should tell you something. This isn't the 1960's anymore, where you'd get immediately ostracized, thrown in a mental institution, and castrated for coming out of the closet.

[–]AlRubyx 0 points1 point ago

I could say I was born a mass murderer, and with that logic I should be able to kill anyone I ever want and never get any help for it. Pedophilia is NOT cool. Period. Also, my parents would be a lot cooler with me being trans than gay. I got kicked out of the house and called faggot, terrible names, etc, but they even said "If I acted like a fag my entire life, then It'd be understandable."

[–]Chweeeet 0 points1 point ago

I don't think it is saying gays are the most persecuted group, it's just pointing out that Christians say they are the most persecuted when the fact of the matter is gays are even more so oppressed than Christians are, by Christians themselves. (sorry friend if the language is a little off, it's hard for me to put thoughts into words sometimes)

[–]Aberu 0 points1 point ago

My friend the other day tried to tell me that women are the most opressed group in the country. I was like... really? Not gays, atheists, or muslims? REALLY women?

[–]darkangelx 0 points1 point ago

I love it when im upvote 666.

[–]miss_kitty_cat -1 points0 points ago

Well, clearly they're wrong. According to r/mensrights, men are the most persecuted group in America.

I can't blame them, really. Look how women are taking over! 18/500 ... before you know it, women might make up 4% of CEOs of the most powerful companies in the country.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point ago

Can we lay this comment to rest? Obviously the guy who said this meant "persecutory".

Wait, he actually meant persecuted?

...

Carry on then

[–]nitdkim 0 points1 point ago

From their perspective, the status quo of society is moving away from their beliefs of what the norms should be. On the other hand, society seems to be moving towards to fit the beliefs of others. While they're not the "most" persecuted group in America (by far), I can understand why they would say something like that.

[–]miss_kitty_cat -2 points-1 points ago

Yes, because they have the most to lose of any religion, because their religion is the only one that's far more deeply entrenched in US law than it ought to be. Other religious groups are gaining rights never granted before (even though they should have been, according to the law), while Christianity's stranglehold on legislation is loosening. So I can understand why they'd say it, because no one likes to lose something, even if it's something they never should have had in the first place.
