I met that guy once at Airborne School (He joined the army after getting fired from his job as a gym teacher). I was sitting next to a water spigot labeled "Non-Potable" and he comes up trying to drink the water. I said, "You probably shouldn't drink this, look." This might be a little controversial but, if you had a threshold at which you would hit another man surely you should be willing to hit a woman at the same threshold, other wise its kinda sexist. That isn't to say that your always justified to hit some one but that surley there is a level where hitting some one is permissable and that it should be applied regardless of gender.

There is a point to sexism here though, regardless of how enlightened we want to be about it, men ARE typically stronger than women. The reason we have the 'rule' is because it's usually going to be an unfair fight (obviously exceptions exist).

Sexism in this case would protect a woman from getting hit, that doesn't justify any kind of sexism though. If some one truely deserves to get hit their relative size shouldn't factor into the equation, though hopefully it would control how hard some one was hit. If sexism is something we as a society deem morally wrong, it has to be wrong universally even when it may make us uncomfortable.

How so? I don't go around hitting men or women. The few times I have it has been in defence of a freind who was being attacked. Though I havn't hit a woman, if it was necessary and other options like leaving or restraining one or both the parties involved was not avalible, I wouldn't choose not to just because she was a woman.

This is a great philosophical question: can you have different rules for different genders without having sexism? I think that the rule for hitting girls should be that you can't do it and they can't provoke you the way a man can. My thinking is that a man can provoke you because you can punch him in the face. That's a fair fight. But, if you can't punch a woman, she should provoke you because it's not fair.

I come down on the side of thinking that this isn't sexist but rather a realistic view of the differences between men and women.

This seems overly complicated, no one should be atempting to provoke anyone to the point of violence and the use of violence should have greater justification than just being provoked. There are inherent differences between men and women but surely there is a way of behaving morally that doesn't have one set of rules for interactions with men and another with women.

I don't think I would hit a girl. But if I had a drink in my hand it would probably find it all over her face. I think humilation and embarrassment would probably be more impactful than violence anyway. And no one is going to be on your side if you hit a girl.

Or you can just tell her she looks fucking old for her age. That might as well be a kick to the throat the way they handle that news. I used that line last NYE while waiting for a cab - chick was close to assaulting me after that comment.

The NYE story was funny. I made the comment a bit unprovoked because the girl was being loud on her cell phone. After yelling at me for about 10 minutes some other random guy approaches. I though he was going to join her side but I was wrong. He started yelling "Go the fuck back to El Cajon" - apparently this was not a good part of town. She left soon after that.

It was awesome, because despite the fact she isn't the one who provoked it, that fist as far as I'm concerned, was a fist of pure justice. Thanks to everyone involved with that show, we have a generation of shallow ass hats that think partying and fucking are all that life has to offer.
