PS: Before I get flamed - Peke's are my fav kind of dogs, my two are spoiled rotten. This particular peke in the pic seems to be in great condition, and I doubt someone who took all the time to groom so carefully, would be cruel. The facial expression isn't all that out of character for a peke.

Peke's are the best kind of dogs. They are loving and fun and happy all the time. They grow really close to their owners and give lots of love. They are really good with little children too...at least the ones I know.

You may well be right. Pomeranians are all fluffiness and have a more compact body shape than a peke, but they also have a pointier nose and face (tho with markedly smaller ears). The angle of the pic makes it less easy to be sure, but I believe looks like the flat, creased, "don't mind me, I ran into a wall a few mins ago" kind of nose/face that is more characteristic of pekingese. The ears look smaller than expected and the facial fur shorter (angle and potential haircut notwithstanding) though. I'm assuming in it's favour that the dog is not of uncertain parentage also

I think the owner is an asshole, immobilizing the dog in a clearly uncomfortable position, and then calling the post "derp in a swing".

How is it adorable, and how is the dog a "derp" for being in a swing? The owner clearly put him in this situation against his will.

Well I guess you can't really comment on how comfortable the position is considering you weren't really there. Maybe he was enjoying the swing. And I feel like he was saying the pup was making a derp face...aka making a funny face. I think people are looking too far into it. It's not like he kept him in a swing for hours...

He looks uncomfortable, he is immobilized, and his head is clearly being forced into an unnatural position. Honestly, way too many /r/aww posts are jackass owners putting their pets into awkward positions or locations and then saying things like "Look how stupid my cat is- he's in the dishwasher! YOU'RE NOT A DISH, YOU'RE A CAT, SILLY". I hate these people.

I see what you mean, but now that I think about it...swings like that are practically the same for a kid. They're immobilized and probably aren't comfortable. Not the same unnatural position, but same concept. I guess to me, he looks happy.

Dogs often have their mouths open in what looks like a human smile. It doesn't mean they're happy, it's how they sweat. A better way to tell is if their tails are wagging or they're moving around excitedly, which is impossible to tell from a picture.
