Whoa whoa whoa whoa wait, they're making a new judge dredd?

WHY WASN'T I TOLD ABOUT THIS

[–]Shadow16nh[S] 104 points105 points ago

Perhaps since you fell off a goddamn skyscraper, nobody bothered.

[–]TemlehKrad 1 point2 points ago

Best. Response. Ever.

[–]ienjoyfood 6 points7 points ago

I had the same reaction. I jus watched the original too. I AM THE LAW

[–]MrMessy 1 point2 points ago

[–]WickedMystic 0 points1 point ago

[–]Bonkarooni 0 points1 point ago

Yeah proof please. I cant find anything about new judge dredd

[–]TelluricEC 0 points1 point ago

Dredd

Set for release in September 21

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1343727/

[–]flangle1 12 points13 points ago

Judge Dredd is going to distribute justice! Karl Urban even demanded that the helmet NEVER come off during the movie (as it never comes off in the comics), which is an AWESOME gesture from an actor. There appears to be real love for the subject matter by the director writers and actors and if they get even close to the mood and insanity of the comics, I think Dredd will be a proper sleeper hit.

[–]fishebulb 9 points10 points ago

All three have good lineups and look like they could work.

[–]Shadow16nh[S] 2 points3 points ago*

Though Len Wiseman did somehow pull off Live Free Or Die Hard, I'm still worried since his resume is mostly crap.

[–]SethQ 2 points3 points ago

Can't hardly fuck up a Die Hard movie.

Bruce Willis? Check.

Explosions? Check.

Catchphrase? Check.

[–]Shadow16nh[S] 8 points9 points ago

You could make it PG-13.

[–]blunt_toward_enemy 2 points3 points ago

You're allowed to say 'fuck' exactly once in a PG-13 movie.

[–]Shadow16nh[S] 6 points7 points ago

But regrettably in this case, not "motherfucker".

[–]OneFootInTheDave 1 point2 points ago

I didn't know Die Hard 4.0 had a different name in America.

Both names kind of suck.

[–]Shadow16nh[S] 1 point2 points ago

I dunno, "Live Free Or Die Hard" seems pretty humorously tongue-in-cheek to me; relevant to the time in which it was made as well as the film's plot.

[–]lonemonk 11 points12 points ago

Why is Total Recall being done again?

[–]lambo7 3 points4 points ago

For the 3 breasted lady/alien.

[–]tatsumakisempukyaku 1 point2 points ago

because this time it's not set on Mars!

[–]wade_station -1 points0 points ago

Please tell me you are joking. I don't mind remakes so much, but I refuse to watch the new Total Recall. There is not a goddamn thing wrong with the original nor anything else to add upon it

[–]Seref15 1 point2 points ago

The trailer actually looks pretty sweet. It's not as wacky as the original, more of a sci fi action movie loosely based on the original plot.

[–]wade_station -1 points0 points ago

Then they should make it a different movie title. Maybe like Prometheus is doing with the Alien franchise. The lead character could be someone different than in the original Total Recall and just share the same world or something.

[–]gmharryc 2 points3 points ago

The new Total Recall is based more closely on the short story by Philip K. Dick, "We Remember It For You Wholesale."

[–]lonemonk -1 points0 points ago

This is about the only good answer I have heard. I have however heard that before from hollywood, to varying degrees of lie

[–]barcodescanner 56 points57 points ago

Out of ideas level: Hollywood.

[–]CapNMcKickAss 35 points36 points ago

Watching 21 Jump Street yesterday, I was amused by the line:

"The people in charge of these things lack creativity, all they do is recycle from the past!"

That bit of self-aware humor got me more than the rest of the movie.

[–]ycpa68 3 points4 points ago

Best line in the movie

[–]inthrees 0 points1 point ago

That one quote redeemed the entire movie for me. I was young enough to really like 21 jump street when it was current, but I have basically forgotten if it took itself too seriously or not. (I suspect it probably did.)

I was a little disappointed when it became clear this movie was more a send-up of 21 Jump Street than a modern adaptation, but that line made me forgive them. And then Depp and whatsisface showed up and I was like "look, self, if they are cool enough, or at least had dump trucks of money driven onto their lawns that were big enough, to come and make cameos in this, then you can't be crabby."

So I talked myself into liking it for it.

But that quote made it a lot easier.

[–]dubnine 1 point2 points ago

If I recall correctly, Johnny Depp hated that role and I figured he thought that'd be a good way to end the shit out of it.

[–]skwishems 0 points1 point ago

oh yea?

[–]mrpopenfresh 6 points7 points ago

Battleship says your'e right!

[–]voidsong 2 points3 points ago*

The sad part is there's a fuckton of awesome story ideas out there, they're just in books so none of the illiterate hollywood retards have ever heard of them. Took them how many decades to realize LotR or Song of Ice & Fire were quality?

It's hilarious that all the "nerd shit" i grew up reading has been what's dominating hollywood for the past decade (comic books, fantasy novels), though there hasn't been enough good scifi for my liking. If someone would make movies of the Culture novels, it would put stuff like Inception to shame.

[–]barcodescanner 1 point2 points ago

I'm not a voracious reader, so can you recommend one of these Culture novels you speak of?

[–]voidsong 1 point2 points ago*

Sure, "A Player of Games", "Consider Phlebas", or "Matter" would each make for a pretty solid intro, depending on what kind of story you're into. "Surface Detail", "Use of Weapons", and "Excession" are crazy awesome, but probably shouldn't be the first ones you read. They are all fairly different though.

You can read them in any order, as they are all mostly separate stories about the Special Circumstances division of The Culture. The author has a very cool style, he uses crazy tech and ideas that makes star trek look like cavemen, but doesn't really bog you down with aside-explanations. You understand what's going on by the context of the stories. The characters are interesting, lots of depth and very human despite the high tech setting, and the various drones and ship minds will make you rethink the whole modern "AI will kill us" trend. Really puts a new face on scifi.

[–]cumfarts 1 point2 points ago

It's not that they're out of ideas, it's just that they've figured out that people will buy the same shit twice. So why waste money on original ideas?

[–]barcodescanner 0 points1 point ago

If that's true, where is the Casablanca remake? Or Breakfast at Tiffany's? I tend to agree, but I like to pretend that Hollywood has at least enough self-respect to not fuck up the classics.

[–]mrpineapplehouse 1 point2 points ago

Repost Level: Hollywood

FTFY

[–]xenthum 1 point2 points ago

It's against Rediquette to complain about reposts! Even if they're multimillion dollar Hollywood level reposts.

:)

[–]WhoeverThatGuyIs 0 points1 point ago

Jaded level: Reddit.

[–]barcodescanner 0 points1 point ago

Exactly how deep into reddit are you?

http://cl.ly/image/1U3j3J0p3z3K

[–]WhoeverThatGuyIs 0 points1 point ago

A lonely, lonely deep place, isolated from society ...and then you came.

[–]Howard_Beale 3 points4 points ago

Red Dawn? Really? Not sure how they are going to make that one fly. China invades the US maybe?

[–]WilsonHanks 6 points7 points ago

It used to be China, then they changed it to North Korea.

[–]nobody187 3 points4 points ago

Close. According to IMDB it is the North Koreans.

IMDB Link

[–]Howard_Beale 7 points8 points ago

I hope they show the U.S. being invaded by 1950s-1960s Russian military hardware.

[–]Panu_Magish 0 points1 point ago

Wasn't there a video game like this? Written by the guy who, wrote Red Dawn? I had no idea this was even happening...

They keep remaking the Swayze's movies. They BETTER not remake Roadhouse.

[–]weewoo92 0 points1 point ago

Or Ghost. I freaking love Ghost. Worst case scenario: gets remade, and every female sucking Nicolas Sparks' dick will think it's his.

[–]spgtothemax 0 points1 point ago

Your talking about homefront.

[–]BarryMenilow 1 point2 points ago

Yep, that's exactly right.

[–]thangle 2 points3 points ago

Nope. That was the shooting script, but the final movie is North Korea invading the US. I should know, I fucking helped with that....ungh.

[–]BarryMenilow 0 points1 point ago

You are wrong because I'm from the internet.

[–]thangle 0 points1 point ago

True fact: the one guy who said it should be North Korea in the writing room left the production and wrote the video game Home Front with the same premise. Legal made them change the movie after it had been shot, edited, and delivered for distribution because they did not want to piss off China and its moviegoers.

[–]Sharp398 1 point2 points ago

Judging by the poster for it, yes.

[–]Howard_Beale 0 points1 point ago

Sweet! Thanks for posting the link.

[–]thangle 0 points1 point ago

That was a pre-release poster for the never happened 2010 release. The movie is now about North Korea and will have a new poster before the november release.

[–]geekincognito 3 points4 points ago

Actually, I made that poster for my site: http://www.reddawnmovienews.com/

It was then adopted by the internet as the poster for the film. It has been everywhere. It was based on the the original premise of China invading. I started the site when they were filming in my neighborhood.

[–]thangle 0 points1 point ago

Well congrats to you, but there will be an official poster probably by september for the actual release.

[–]geekincognito 0 points1 point ago

Yeah, it's been fun seeing were it shows up. I tried talking the producer into letting me design the final poster (I'm a professional designer) but he has no control over that. The distribution company is handling that part. I'm looking forward to seeing the final poster art though. I know who is working on it and it should be good.

[–]thangle 1 point2 points ago

Haha we've been talking to the same people probably :) and yeah, Open Road Films just acquired the show about 2 months ago, and they're very up on the marketing campaigns (see: The Dictator for example). I need one for over my desk!!

[–]smartzie 1 point2 points ago

Just watched this on TV today. I'm kind of wishing they would leave it alone. :(

[–]Howard_Beale 0 points1 point ago

All I'm saying is there better be a kid peeing into a radiator, and Powers Booth better be in there somewhere!

[–]orangefly 0 points1 point ago

that would have made more sense....

[–]Seref15 0 points1 point ago

They changed it from China to North Korea after China announced that they would not allow the movie to air in their country if it depicted the Chinese as villains.

When this switch was made many scenes had already been shot. In those scenes all the Chinese flags and symbols will be edited to reflect North Korea in postproduction.

[–]TheJizzle 2 points3 points ago

I don't care about the movies, I just thought the accompanying image was hilarious in context. Goodonya.

[–]epepepturbo 2 points3 points ago

TWO WEEKS!

[–]sirdomino 8 points9 points ago

Judge Dredd is a documentary of the American Legal system, where all cops are Judge Dredd...

[–]Technoslave 1 point2 points ago

When are these mystical things due to come to theaters, I must know!!!

[–]dotmadhack 1 point2 points ago

Can't we like both versions of the movies?

[–]Shadow16nh[S] 1 point2 points ago

I think the objection best made in the case of Total Recall (the only film whose remake is really worth taking issue with), is that the hundred-million-plus Hollywood has spent hiring a hack director to remake/re-adapt a still-iconic action classic could have been better spent giving us something new and original like Inception. Instead our summers are full of half-baked board game adaptations and tired retreads (heh).

[–]LucifersCounsel 2 points3 points ago

But piracy is killing the movie industry.

[–]JayMichael12 0 points1 point ago

Well, let's go down to the Caribbean an sort those bastards out!

(bad pun is bad, I apologize)

[–]captainzigzag -1 points0 points ago

Nobody is allowed to like the first Dredd movie.

[–]electricblues42 1 point2 points ago

Invaded by North Fucking Koreans?! Jesus Christ.....What are they gonna do, fight us with pitch forks? Wtf..... I like Hemsworth and wouldn't mind a new red dawn with china (or hell, a modern russia) invading, but north korea is kinda pathetic. Unless this is set in some alternate universe where north korea is like 15 fucking times bigger than in real life and actually has a military capable of doing jack shit outside its borders.

The judge dredd one kinda sounds alright. Long as it is different enough from the original movie. Closer to the original source (comics I think).

[–]linknight 2 points3 points ago

[–]Quej 1 point2 points ago

Thank god someone's redoing Total Recall. It's based off an amazing short story by Philip K. Dick (Blade Runner, Minority Report, A Scanner Darkly, Valis, Ubik, Paycheck, Adjustment Bureau, etc.), and even though I like the old movie well enough, it deserves better.

[–]complex_reduction 1 point2 points ago

I've never read the original book, but is the movie really THAT bad? I mean yes it's cheesy but that is what makes it amazing.

[–]_just_some_guy 1 point2 points ago

We Can Remember It for You Wholesale.

[–]aknightcalledfrog 1 point2 points ago

It's a remake of the film, not a brand new adaptation of the source material to my understanding.

[–]jpj007 0 points1 point ago

There's no Mars, IIRC, so I'd say it's a new adaptation more than a remake of the film.

[–]aknightcalledfrog 0 points1 point ago

We Can Remember It For You Wholesale via Wikipedia.

No Mars doesn't mean it isn't just a new take on Total Recall. It has the same title, same character names, just a tweaked plot so they can use fears about US/China relations to greater effect. I will still go see it as I am an avid fan of the Arnie version, just so I can either be surprised or have something to moan about for the coming months!

[–]bigshoop78 0 points1 point ago

The short story was much... shorter... In that it did not include any of the stuff after Quaid wakes up from his induced dream IIRC. I guess what I'm saying is, don't expect any mention of stomach baby monsters or three-breasted waitresses.

[–]WilsonHanks 0 points1 point ago

I was looking forward to Red Dawn, then they casted Josh Peck.

[–]thangle 1 point2 points ago

Chris Hemsworth plays the new Swayze though.

[–]itp757 0 points1 point ago

I hope they don't make sequels. Wtf clash of the titans?

[–]mrjderp 1 point2 points ago

NEW RED DAWN?!

[–]dylantrevor 0 points1 point ago

Sounds like a splendid next few months.

[–]TomHardon 0 points1 point ago

They are also making a Robocop movie((soihear)) ... Those flippin bastards ...

AND what the efff is up with Total Recall not having any part of the picture in "mars"!!! Gah-dayumett!

[–]CoyoteStark 0 points1 point ago

I guess the remake of 21 Jump Street was right.

[–]EnderBaggins 0 points1 point ago

here in austin, we're reliving the summer of '82. Been a blast so far.

[–]goldenrod 0 points1 point ago

Wait a sec. I thought Red Dawn was shelved. I saw they were working on it years back but then suddenly it all vanished; even the marketing too.

[–]stabsthedrama 0 points1 point ago

does it bother anyone else that all these actors are still alive and well, let alone the fact they are still acting in movies, and are not even in any of these movies?

[–]chrasher 0 points1 point ago

I have this terrible feeling that my childhood is quickly being ruined. If they ever remake DinoRiders or Disney's Robin Hood I might go into a depression.

[–]Shadow16nh[S] 3 points4 points ago

Disney's Robin Hood can't really be remade in the same sense as these films. That's like worrying about someone remaking Hamlet.

[–]santman29 2 points3 points ago

They did make a sequel to Hamlet which was badass

[–]muzakx 1 point2 points ago

Rock! Rock! Rock me, sexy Jesus!

[–]jibba_jabba 0 points1 point ago

Trampled. I'm just waiting for a Police Academy remake to call the time of death on it.

[–]Red_Barchetta 0 points1 point ago

I feel the same way when I look at a concert calendar for this summer. Aerosmith/Cheap Trick, Def Leppard/Poison, Van Halen. Is it 2012 or 1982?

[–]crazyjimmy -2 points-1 points ago

Total Recall does not need to be remade. It was perfect. It stands up just fine today.

Judge Dread does not need to be remade. It was terrible. There is no reason to try to make it stand.

Red Dawn...really? WTF? We don't want people thinking about what it would be like to have your country invaded by a foreign army do we? lol

[–]ivanmarsh -1 points0 points ago

...again.

[–]accountnotfound2 -1 points0 points ago

And none of these should have been remade. They are all great for what they are. Poor Hollywood can't come up with new ideas.

[–]Shadow16nh[S] 4 points5 points ago

I'm pretty sure Dredd fans have been waiting for a proper adaptation for some time. With Danny Boyle's production company involved...their hopes may yet be fulfilled.

[–]Zazilium -1 points0 points ago

Red Dawn is coming out? I'm not big on remakes but I am rather looking forward to that one.

[–]Shadow16nh[S] 0 points1 point ago

That will have been Chris Hemsworth's fourth film this year.

[–]APretentiousHipster -1 points0 points ago

What about the "Amazing Spiderman"? Finally a canon Spiderman flick.
