Can you imagine if one of those enormous stars had an earth but scaled up to match our scale to our sun. One of their people wouldn't even fit on Earth.

[–]Bryz_ 11 points12 points ago

Woah.

[–]MiniMoog 8 points9 points ago

Dude.

[–]Givants 1 point2 points ago

That's unbelievably unsettling, I remember a few months back there was a link to a 4 year time lapse of a nebula expanding at the speed of light. I made me rethink everything, in the sequence you can see the nebula expanding a little over 5%... At the speed of light.... In a span of 4 years.... We are minuscule.

[–]livinlifeman 1 point2 points ago

its impossible to comprehend the sheer size of those after they start dwarfing our sun.

[–]bobbybusche 2 points3 points ago

It really doesn't work like that. As long as it's the same Universe everything on the molecular scale would be the same size. It would just be a fucking huge ass planet. It would probably take light years to travel about a planet that size.

[–]Fhouse 1 point2 points ago

If I'm correct life could not exist on a bigger sized planet because of gravity but feel free to correct me.

[–]bobbybusche 0 points1 point ago

I'm in no position to correct anyone honestly just my speculation on limited knowledge. But that would definitely make sense provided the gravity of a planet that size must be bone crushing.

[–]MakersSnark 0 points1 point ago

Land life no. Nothing to say it couldn't exist floating about in the upper atmosphere, getting energy from a massive core. Then again, too big and the planet collapses on itself and becomes a star, so you're not incorrect

[–]AbsurdHero 0 points1 point ago

That's why I said imagine, but to say it can't happen is about as foolish as saying it surely exists.

Mind = Blown []_[]

[–]KPop_Teen[!] 6 points7 points ago

Humanity needs to know how little and insignificant we really are compared to what's in the universe.

[–]lolzforfun[S] 2 points3 points ago

Thats what I am trying to tell everybody who says, "Humans are the dominant race."

[–]FatherThyme 0 points1 point ago*

Well the dominant race for OUR planet/galaxy

[–]Roarian 1 point2 points ago

planet I'll give you, if we don't give that prize to prokaryotes.

Galaxy? We have about as much dominance as someone who has a single grain of salt has dominion over all salt mines. -_-

[–]mindrag 1 point2 points ago

Prokaryotes didn't build fucking Mt. Everest, man. Humans 1 Prokaryotes 0.

[–]Ederek_Cole 0 points1 point ago

Humans didn't build Mt. Everest either...

As far as we know...

[–]FatWhiteGuy49 2 points3 points ago

Oh lawd.

I can't even fathom the size, no matter how many of these things I watch. Gotta love our universe.

[–]Teekoo 0 points1 point ago

Yeah, after Sirius I couldn't really put the size in perspective.

[–]mbleslie 2 points3 points ago

For a second I thought it was going to do a logarithmic spiral

[–]twin-cest 2 points3 points ago

Welp, I'll be having nightmares tonight, my space-fear has been inflamed.

[–]Munchnator 2 points3 points ago

I know, I feel ya. Just looking at the gas giants and other planets, there's this eerie peacefulness about them. Idk, call me crazy, but I just feel weird looking at it, creeped out, if you will.

[–]twin-cest 2 points3 points ago

Space fascinates me but by god does it scare the shit out of me.

[–]Munchnator 1 point2 points ago

Yeah I know, same here. It's just the unknown that scares people really. In fact, that's what most fear is based of, the unknown. It's just in fathomable the possibilities that are outside the solar system and our galaxy.

[–]twin-cest 0 points1 point ago

That makes sense.

I'm also afraid of heights, so the idea of 'falling' or losing your grip and ending up drifting in space.. yeah, fuck that.

My space fear is so intense that I can't play any video games where you pilot a spacecraft. There was one Star Wars game on I think Gamecube, I can't remember the title, but you were flying around a planet and there might even have been a black hole in the distance. It made me sick and just terrified me.

Also when I was around 7 or 8 I would lay awake at night afraid that there were blackholes out there, or that the sun would go supernova and kill us. I couldn't sleep well until my dad told me that it wouldn't matter if the sun exploded, we'd be dead before we knew it.

[–]Munchnator 1 point2 points ago

Right, I don't have that big of a fear, but I get creeped out at just the serene-ness of planets. It's just so creepy that these things are just... I don't know... And aliens are another thing that terrify me at the thought of space. I know that there has to be SOME life out there, but I don't rally know what, so again, unknown is what's scaring me.

[–]Finnishalzheimerskid 2 points3 points ago

That's not scary, it's fucking awesome. You misspelled awesome is what I'm trying to say here.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points ago

So relatively speaking, no, you aren't that fat.

[–]4j0sh4 4 points5 points ago

It's scary how many times this can be reposted.

[–]toxinogen 1 point2 points ago

Good to know that nothing I do will ever matter ever.

[–]TheRedditor12 1 point2 points ago

O_O Holy shit

[–]Mrsoulofrock 0 points1 point ago

They should show this at schools... I had no sense of the proportion differences.

[–]311sKrunkalectic 0 points1 point ago

That's awesome. Makes ya wonder about UFOs. :0

[–]TheVaultDweller13 0 points1 point ago

How could there not be life out there.

[–]lolzforfun[S] 0 points1 point ago

I know...

[–]FatherThyme 0 points1 point ago*

This is one reason I love science/astronomy, its so fascinating and sometimes mind blowing

[–]alecyo12 0 points1 point ago

What is the substance on v838 the pink one

[–]kjjejones42 0 points1 point ago

... I don't know why but I was waiting for the TTGL to show up at the end.

[–]gamesharkguy 0 points1 point ago

People didn't know this o3o?

[–]Fhouse 0 points1 point ago

By the time the Sun becomes a red Giant, Earth will be history.

[–]BlakeSteel 0 points1 point ago

I was just waiting for "your mom" at the end.

[–]boodaa28 0 points1 point ago

it's not scary, it's fascinating

[–]lilianatheresa 0 points1 point ago

And people don't think there is ANY other life form out there?

[–]BIG_CARL_ 0 points1 point ago

I feel so small..

[–]npech001 0 points1 point ago

OK, how many of you read it as Alderaan?

[–]8doobies 0 points1 point ago
