Beware of trading scammers!

A subreddit for anything related to games (but not sports).

"Related" means that posts must contain gaming-related content in the link/post body, not just a "forced" connection via the title or a caption added to the content.

Posting Rules

  • Posts must be directly gaming-related. Thus, "generic" image macros/memes (where the character itself is not related to gaming) like Scumbag Steve, Good Guy Greg, etc. will be removed. Something that "reminds you of a game", or "looks like something from a game" is also not an appropriate submission; similarly, reaction GIFs are also not appropriate as submissions.

  • Following Reddiquette is encouraged

  • No "general" URL shorteners (bitly, tinyurl, etc). Single-site URL shorteners (such as youtu.be or fav.me) are allowed.

  • No game or product giveaway of any kind

  • NSFW submissions and comments must be labeled

  • Spoilers can be posted using the following formatting:
    [X Kills Y](/spoiler)
    Result: X Kills Y.

  • To mark a spoiler as relevant to a specific game/topic, use the alternate formatting:
    [Player 1 wins](/spoiler "Pong")
    Result:
    Player 1 wins

  • Report posts containing spoilers not using the above method

  • Don't post users' personal information.

Submission Rules

Is your post not showing up? Do not delete it. Wait 5 minutes to give AutoModerator a chance to look at it; it approves most submissions automatically. If it hasn't shown up after more than 5 minutes, simply message the moderators and ask us to let it through.

Repost.

[–]dwarvenbuffet 9 points10 points ago

Tis my favorite repost though.

[–]TheRosie -2 points-1 points ago

This has been posted here on /r/gaming 20 times lately. OP is huuuuuge faggot in maner of 4chan.

[–]Leeham721 2 points3 points ago

Someone make a similar gif with the EA logo and karma numbers

[–]unibod 10 points11 points ago

IGN and other outlets have said time and time again that the editorial and advertising departments are completely isolated from one another. The writers and reviewers are not influenced by what ads are being displayed on the site, thus their review scores are not affected. Do you really think that the boss man is going to approach an honest, integrity filled reviewer and tell him to bump up a score just because they're getting paid by the publisher for ads? No, that makes no sense, and quite frankly doesn't happen. I've worked with editors at IGN in the past, and I can guarantee you that this isn't the case.

TLDR: LOL dat gif is so true.

[–]greaverfox 10 points11 points ago

Or maybe, just maybe, EA despite their questionable business practices has a metaphorical eye for talent and generally publishes good games.

[–]Ragnar_OK 8 points9 points ago

WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT EA IS WORSE THAN CANCER I WOULD RATHER HAVE GABEN COME TO MY HOUSE AND RAPE MY ENTIRE FAMILY THAN BE PAID TO PLAY A RETARDED FUCKING SHITTY EA GAME BLARGHBLARRG

[–]SonicSlice 6 points7 points ago

Nobody caught your sarcasm, I'm sorry friend.

[–]JaredOfTheWoods 0 points1 point ago

I think its more of the meta circle-jerk he's got going on here.

[–]burnoutdieyoung 7 points8 points ago

/r/gaming logic

"Games by EA and other companies we hate only get high review scores because they pay for their reviews, and games by companies we love like Valve etc. get good review scores because they're AWESOME!!!"

[–]DweevilDude 3 points4 points ago

Well... Valve DOES make good games.

[–]Sprakisnolo 0 points1 point ago

so does EA.

[–]DweevilDude 0 points1 point ago

True, true, but the quality of support, ethics, and just overall... meh. I did like spore though.

[–]Tybob51 1 point2 points ago

Because in the end, we all know people aren't allowed to have opinions, especially when they review games.

[–]soma04 1 point2 points ago

they are just following the example of Corporate America and US Government. Money buys policy.

[–]Accipehoc 1 point2 points ago

I like how it was made by the guy that made the "Tester in a Nutshell" videos.

[–]A_British_Gentleman 1 point2 points ago

I like how people act like this is new. Things like this have ALWAYS happened with all mediums of reviews.

[–]IPostInWrongReddits 1 point2 points ago

Repost, but still gave me a good laugh

[–]LongIslandPizzaKing 12 points13 points ago

For the most part, reddit is an intelligent community. It will never cease to amaze me how people think IGN (and other sites) are paid for review scores.

[–]ericleeparker 7 points8 points ago

Have you seen the Jeff Gerstmann Gamespot story ?

[–]the_fnords 22 points23 points ago

Pretending to be intelligent simply by being contrary... isn't. They aren't paid directly. They are paid in ad revenue.

It's been a fact of life for ages now. If you are too naive to understand that, then I don't really know what else to say.

[–]unibod 5 points6 points ago

[–]Peachys 2 points3 points ago

No, the boss man would simply fire that reviewer (/give whatever excuse) or not have hired them in the first place.

It is the similar to how people say that cops have ticket "quotas". While there may be no actual stated quota (i.e. amount of "trivial" arrests they have to receive on a monthly basis) the fact is the Cop that do these arrests will be compared to those that do not (given a point system or not), and will therefore be more favored (better pay, better pensions, less likely to be reprimanded/transferred/harassed/given terrible evaluations by higher officers).

TLDR: That gif really is true.

[–]Keybard 0 points1 point ago

People don't realize that IGN's reviewer's are just shit. I haven't visited their site since God Hand was given a 3 or whatever by them.

[–]unibod 2 points3 points ago

Oh yeah, while I completely disagree with OP's gif, I do agree with you there.

Modern Game's Journalism is filmed with just complete dicks and pompous jerks. (Excluding Polygon's McElroy brothers)

[–]unibod 0 points1 point ago

Well lookkit that. You are OP. Hi, OP. Nice to meet ya.

[–]Ragnar_OK 2 points3 points ago

For the most part, reddit is an intelligent community.

Ahahaha! Very nice!

I'll give you 8/10. That was one of the best jokes I've seen today.

[–]LongIslandPizzaKing 2 points3 points ago

i do do stand up so thanks.

[–]The_Snig -4 points-3 points ago

You don't deserve the downvotes that you're going to get.

[–]LongIslandPizzaKing 2 points3 points ago

I am but a fool.

[–]talitus 0 points1 point ago

Reddit is not an intelligent community.

[–]GamesR4FITE 4 points5 points ago

If I had a dollar for ever repost I've seen of this...

Well, I'd be rich as EA.

[–]xXSmokeBlunts420Xx 1 point2 points ago

If I had a dollar for ever repost I've seen of this...

You'd have like 5 or 6 dollars tops.

[–]GamesR4FITE 0 points1 point ago

It was a joke, but okay then.

[–]xXSmokeBlunts420Xx 1 point2 points ago

[–]GamesR4FITE -1 points0 points ago

That GIF gets funnier every time I see it posted.

[–]Alpha17x 0 points1 point ago*

I came to this realization when I saw that Jessica Chobot was in ME3, glad I don't work THERE anymore.

Edit; that conclusion being that they are sellouts in every way possible. I don't know if they pay for review scores, the game was great up until the end. Also I can see IGN accepting review money. I don't really hold them to a high standard

[–]fizz4m 0 points1 point ago

Even though I don't agree 100% with the EA hate 100%, this has to be my favorite gif.

[–]xDarkPassneger7 0 points1 point ago

someone remake this with a activision logo and mw3 everywhere

[–]LongIslandPizzaKing 5 points6 points ago

Why? The score IGN gave MW3 is in the same ballpark the majority of reviews gave it.

[–]Rithral 0 points1 point ago

[–]Maxables 0 points1 point ago

Pickle surprise!

[–]nightbug -2 points-1 points ago

And It didn't even get 10/10.

Truely puzzles me how people think a Site they hate reviews a game they hate instantly gets payed by the person they hate to review the game they hate 10/10.

[–]anisewah -1 points0 points ago

Same could be said about any big publisher with all the big media sites. I stick to the small sites that actually have experienced and intelligent gamers like RPS

[–]Jdix -1 points0 points ago

Maybe there should be a sub-reddit just for reposts. Oh wait!

[–]BIG_CARL_ -1 points0 points ago

First, this is bullshit. IGN just like a lot of journalistic sites dealing with media like games and movies has strict policies about accepting 'gifts' from publishers and developers. they often have to turn down awesome collectibles simply because it could be considered bribery. Also this is a repost.

[–]OJSlaughter -2 points-1 points ago

This isn't true. Hate IGN because it is owned by News Corporation or something and look less crazy! Seriously Reddit.

[–]JarekBloodDragon -1 points0 points ago

Best repost on the internet. Never thought I'd say that.

[–]Platipy -1 points0 points ago

How many times am I going to see this?

[–]Wargall -1 points0 points ago

Is this how /r/gaming dies?

[–]icesharkk -1 points0 points ago

yes

[–]LazyNecromancer -1 points0 points ago

Not with bang, but with a Repost.

[–]adventureman66 -1 points0 points ago

This isn't even relevant anymore... So why is this being reposted?

[–]ksrchicity -3 points-2 points ago

It's true.

I used to run a Sports Gaming website that was pretty large and I was often coerced into giving games better scores based on what they hooked us up with (how many copies of games they send you prior to release to keep/giveaway/sell)

We were low level. I can only imagine what awesome stuff IGN is getting (besides cash, obviously)
