Why do things get cuter when their pupils are open? Ladies used to use Belladonna drops - that's deadly nightshade - to dilate their pupils because it was considered to make the lady more beautiful.

Nah, we like to like things which are cute, and protect them, which is why babies look cute to us. Babies have large eyes compared to their skull when compared to us, and dilated pupils kinda emulate that.
