It's from the Dwarves series by Markus Heitz. source

[–]Visil 3 points4 points ago

Indeed. And a damn fine set of books they are too. Heres a link to the artists page.

It's like a combination Minis Tirith, Helms Deep and Black Gates

If someone can make this 1920x1080 you'll have my love forever. And my karma.

[–]IM_THE_DECOY 4 points5 points ago

That is not Minas Tirith.

[–]miriku 22 points23 points ago

Isn't that Helm's Deep, not Minas Tirith? Minas Tirith doesn't have a mountain cliff on the side from where it was invaded.

[–]Celebrimbor333 20 points21 points ago

The weird thing is, is that the walls are distinctly from Minas Tirith, but if so the architecture behind the main gates would be the multi-ringed Minas Tirith we all know. This is neither Helm's Deep or Minas Tirith--it's both of them, and an element of imagination.

[–]alienman911 7 points8 points ago

It is neither, it is from an unrelated book series http://www.jessevandijk.net/g_10_20.html

Helm's Deep had its castle and a long line standing along side it for the field, making the castle to be fully surrounded by the mountain-cliff

In this picture, there are city walls and towers 'behind' the long line, so I'm assuming its Minas Tirith or some other city.

I love it! Except the ladders are way too short.

[–]SurlyP 2 points3 points ago

Also why do they have trebuchets so close to the walls? :P

[–]drockers 5 points6 points ago

Why the fuck are the trebuchets built 20 meters fro the walls yet they are rolling in the siege towers from further away.

[–]nothinbuttherain 1 point2 points ago

I'm no artist, but I'm betting it's because reversing their positions would block too much of what's going on AT the wall, which is what the artist wants you to be drawn to.

The trebuchets need to be in the scene someplace, and putting them there (and the towers further out) leaves more of the close-to-wall battle visible.

Just my guess, I don't know a single thing about art...

Not LOTR.

[–]ishmetot 0 points1 point ago

Why not? It's directly inspired by scenes from the LotR films, and fits the description of Minas Tirith.

The Battle of the Hornburg

The Black Gate

The Siege of Gondor

[–]mulone88 2 points3 points ago

...because it's not. Look a OxN's post. He's right.

[–]alienman911 2 points3 points ago

This is not from LOTR at all, it is for the covers of the book series "The Dwarves"

Just think how much a bomber wing with some napalm could affect Middle Earth conflicts.

[–]drewbeh 0 points1 point ago

This is pretty sweet, are there any other resolutions? this doesn't fit without black rulers

[–]romple 3 points4 points ago

Here's a couple of scaled/cropped versions

I don't like the non-cropped ones. the aspect gets too skewed. But hope you like one of them.

[–]Glaphnoo[S] 1 point2 points ago

Unfortunately I was unable to find a different resolution for you. I don't think its too bad though, the black bars gives it a theatrical feel.

[–]BillygotTalent 0 points1 point ago

I want more!!

[–]tehjocker 0 points1 point ago

O_O

[–]Aleeecks 0 points1 point ago

Is it just me or are the ladders not tall enough to scale the walls?

[–]TruMaster -1 points0 points ago

0/10 minas tirith not white enough and trolls that big, really? are you even trying?

[–]Zukagraf 1 point2 points ago
