No really, it's stupid they are removing submissions anyway. Whether a vote was taken or not. I can almost guarantee the majority of the community didn't even know votes were being held.

Take for example the removal of e-cards and it's poll. Out of close to 2m subscribers only 6334 participated. And the results came back 55% in favor of removal. So now, 1.7m people will never see e-cards again on /r/funny because of a very tiny percentage of the community.

I can't be the only one who thinks a poll so close with very little of the subscribers participating should be used by the mods as an OK to remove perfectly fine submissions that have been upvoted by subreddit at large.

I once submitted a rage comic to /r/f7u12. It received 500 net upvotes in less than an hour and made the front page's first spot. It was removed by a mod because "It was a cheap pun and an inside joke" according to them.

I unsubscribed because of that jerk and haven't looked back since. Leaving f7u12 has saved me a lot of time on Reddit for more interesting stuff.

Put simply, Reddit isn't built that way. All of the under-the-hood programming relies on posts being attached to a certain subreddit. In order to allow mods to move posts among subreddits would essentially require re-coding reddit's structure from the ground up, something there is neither time nor money to do.

They're volunteers, not paid for their time/effort. If you see something on the front page that breaks the rules, hit "report" and message the mods about it! I'm sure they'd be thankful for your help.

Just because they're not getting paid doesn't mean they should do a poor job.

Hell, mods on almost every site are volunteer. I still see THEM working.

Now, I'm sure I'm being too harsh on Reddit's mods. I'm sure they do a fine job. I'm just saying that I always ALWAYS see posts ON THE FRONT PAGE that are against the rules. Hell, you don't even need to click on the link, you can judge from the TITLE ALONE that the post is against the rules.

They have a bunch of rules, but they just don't enforce them apparently.

Well, I'm sure they try. Thing is, you and I have kind of a distorted viewpoint on most mods because we can only see what they don't remove, not what they do remove, so if they correctly removed 99 posts and missed one, we could still see that one and say they're not doing a good job. Like I said, message them about rule breaking posts and you'll usually get a (somewhat) quick response, in my experience.

Same thing happened to me. I broke rule number 1 but received 400+ votes then had it removed in the pics subreddit. I think the mods just hate me though. I mean, I even had a different post about compiling cases of ron paul censorship removed from the number one position on the ronpaulcensored subreddit. OH YA and it happened today in pics again for posting a its my cakeday post.
