This image was taken in 1996 by Steve McCurry.

Here are some of his shots from India, taken in 1983; http://stevemccurry.com/galleries/india?view=grid

Steve McCurry likes India, he goes there a lot, so he has oodles of shots that span different decades.

Here's a full size image of this shot with exif data intact; http://exposed.fuerafoto.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/04/mccurry_india_original.jpg

"Image description: Jodhpur, India, 1996"

Exif data can be added to any digital image, it doesn't have to have been taken with a digital camera.

There was likely some contrast and brightness adjustments done 'cause scanned negatives can get wonky looking. I doubt there was any 'photoshopping' to make this exposure pop, slide film is just that colourful.

[–]XxXX420BongMarelyxxX 13 points14 points ago

fun fact: McCurry also took that famous picture of the Afghan Girl. You know the one.

[–]tman916x 20 points21 points ago

I'd order some McCurry if I went to an Indian McDonalds

[–]2buffet2soda 3 points4 points ago

Great find good sir.

[–]FilthFlarnFilth 0 points1 point ago

Thanks for this! I saved the submitter's pic because I was so taken with the image. It was nice a nice surprise to see you posted the full-size one.

I love that the title that did well 11 months ago is very similar to this one.

[–]BlueBlueElectricBlue 13 points14 points ago

dat karma.

[–]Roaning 2 points3 points ago

That karma.

[–]mikevilla 0 points1 point ago

thank you. I googled this just to post it too

[–]gbtimmon 12 points13 points ago

this is not a repost, the last one was titled "that contrast", this one is titiled "dat contrast"... clearly this is the ethno-centric re release.

[–]backintime 1 point2 points ago

Vanilla Ice agrees.

[–]ShinyJaker -2 points-1 points ago

I'm not sure ethnocentric means what you think it does.

[–]gbtimmon -1 points0 points ago

It applies here. think about it.

[–]ShinyJaker 0 points1 point ago

Not really.

"Evaluating other peoples and cultures according to the standards of one's own culture."

Applies in no way...

Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ethnocentrism

If anything, the fist one was the ethnocentric one as it was written with correct grammar / spelling, which fits in with Reddit's grammar-nazi culture.

[–]gbtimmon -1 points0 points ago

Yep. You're right. Actually think I meant to write afro-centric. Never knew ethno-centric was a thing. You're still a dick.

[–]RodJohnsonSays 14 points15 points ago*

I don't think this is photoshop.

Jodpur Blue City.

It was also used in the film 'The Fall'.

[–]here_to_nowhere 7 points8 points ago

Just watched that movie the other day! It was fantastic!

[–]effanaudi 3 points4 points ago

Favorite movie to date.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points ago

Uh, it's still contrast. It's not like contrast is an artificial thing.

[–]RodJohnsonSays 0 points1 point ago

Meant to take out the contrast portion.

[–]shareefer 2 points3 points ago

Looks like a The Mars Volta album art.

[–]polarbearGr 2 points3 points ago

Effective use of color.

[–]ScalpedAlive 0 points1 point ago

Effective use of complementary colors.

[–]spicyfishtacos 2 points3 points ago

Should this hurt my eyes? Because it does.

[–]allenor 2 points3 points ago

The Fall had some great shots of this city.

[–]ThuperCool 2 points3 points ago

One of the most visually stunning films I've ever seen

[–]thablitzreaper 0 points1 point ago

Any other suggestions?

[–]Bitter_Idealist 0 points1 point ago

The Fountain. Hero.

[–]sd66 2 points3 points ago

This looks like Jodhpur, the "Blue City." For anyone interested, look up pictures of Jaipur, as well. It's called the "Pink City." The state of Rajasthan in India is beautiful.

[–]anonymousHacker 1 point2 points ago

Dat repost

[–]davidhoey 2 points3 points ago

If anyone reading this has played skyrim, this kinda looks like the grey quarter. No racism intended.

[–]sarpedonx 1 point2 points ago

how dare you

[–]lud1120 1 point2 points ago

Marocco also has a place known for its blue walls

[–]noface 0 points1 point ago

Yes, In tangier. In the casbar.... Been there.

[–]amercer83 1 point2 points ago

I almost wanted to downvote this based on the title, but it's a stellar shot. Upvote all the way!

[–]M0b1u5 0 points1 point ago

dat contrast stupid

FTFY

[–]MountainLionKingKong 0 points1 point ago

Dat unoriginal title.

[–]John_Barleycorn 12 points13 points ago

"dat contrast" is really the best submission title you could come up with? This photo deserves much better than that.

[–]StewieBanana 12 points13 points ago

I would have gone with "Blue buildings and people with a bunch of red accessories n shit."

[–]Joke_Getter 2 points3 points ago

Imagine if one of them was smiling!

[–]Dhuske 1 point2 points ago

Is that a reference to something?

[–]Joke_Getter 0 points1 point ago

Yes.

[–]blsd 1 point2 points ago

Is that in chefchaouen? I've been there. It felt drugreal.

[–]dieyoubastards 1 point2 points ago

Nope it's in India... I mean with the race they were and their clothes it would have been seriously unlikely to be Chefchaouen.

[–]soyabstemio 0 points1 point ago

He did mention drugs.

[–]imgonnacallyouretard 0 points1 point ago

The 10 cent blocks of hash were hard to beat.

[–]starboxed 1 point2 points ago

Arabian niiiiights, like Arabian daaaaays...

[–]CrazyMcfobo 0 points1 point ago

They must have built it all out of microcline.

[–]rossiFan 0 points1 point ago

Is that what it looks like when you're on drugs?

[–]Hamster307 0 points1 point ago

[–]DoctorTurkleton 0 points1 point ago

After staring at Reddit's white background for hours, this picture made my eyes feel nice.

[–]rhyso90 0 points1 point ago

Instantly thought of this

[–]my_account_is_new 0 points1 point ago

reminds me of the shop street in Majora's mask

[–]jai07 -1 points0 points ago

seriously, the same goddamn thread name as the last time? please try next time. away with you.

[–]dont_get_it 0 points1 point ago

The image is oversaturated when the red turban burns the way it does here. That would require a fluorescent red colour that has not been invented yet.

[–]deadfield918 0 points1 point ago

Rajasthan is one of place that I've always wanted to visit. This city is one of the reasons.

[–]InteractiveFiction 0 points1 point ago

You slip into the side street, avoiding the angry yells of the banker as he
searches for you. You slip the gold pieces into your cowl and continue
along the street.

The blue city is full of twists and turns. After a few streets you are
safely away from the market. As you walk by, you notice a street vendor
sorting through vegetables and discussing business with a couple.
Ahead are a set of stairs, and to your left is an alley which leads onto a
main street.

What will you do?

[–]Damnyoureyes 0 points1 point ago

"Red fruit for sale! Getcher red fruits here!"

[–]chbrules 0 points1 point ago

This blue city can be seen in the movie, The Fall. Amazing movie. I highly recommend.

[–]guitartablelamp 0 points1 point ago

Hey what color do you want to paint this alleyway?

Blue.

Really? That sounds cool, but I feel like it might get old after like 10 minutes.

Blue.

[–]faschr4023 0 points1 point ago

Would have had more contrast if the turbans were orange

[–]PropMonkey 0 points1 point ago

Yo listen up: heres the story about a blue guy that lives in a blue world..

[–]intifan 0 points1 point ago

Dat kodachrome.

[–]perfectlysufficient -1 points0 points ago

You just blue my mind!

[–]Jaraxo 0 points1 point ago

Not sure why you're being downvoted, this image has been saturated to fuck in post-production.

[–]m4rk3d 7 points8 points ago

The photo was actually shot on Kodachrome 64 film which was well known for its high saturation levels. No photoshop, no post-processing, just a photographer using the right tools for the job.

[–]Furry_Thug 0 points1 point ago

I know that feel bro.

[–]CrabbyMcFartLice -1 points0 points ago

This image was shot in 1996.

[–]2abyssinians 0 points1 point ago

I am disappoint. "Dat" should only be used when pictures contain ass. This picture has no ass.

[–]Tendie 0 points1 point ago

I count 3.

[–]Un-needed_Edit -4 points-3 points ago

[–]HorizonRising -1 points0 points ago

Reminds me of Aladdin.

[–]TheMagnificentChrome -1 points0 points ago

dat noise

[–]poffin -5 points-4 points ago

Don't you mean, dat photoshop enhancement?

[–]joequin 2 points3 points ago

Well contrasted pictures are almost always photoshop. Or done in the darkroom. There's no difference. You can only be so good by just taking your photos directly out of the camera. In this case, however, it may just be velvia.

[–]CrabbyMcFartLice 2 points3 points ago

It is. This is one of Steve McCurry's shots from India. I'm not sure if it's Velvia or Kodachrome, but it's definitely slide film.

[–]frenchbreddit 1 point2 points ago

Kodachrome I think, one of the last ever rolls too.

[–]CrabbyMcFartLice 1 point2 points ago

Given that it's Steve McCurry, it was probably Kodachrome, and not Velvia.

This is totally irrelevant, but I heard a story from someone who used to judge pictures for Kodak sponsored photography competitions. If there wasn't some red in the shots that showed off how Kodachrome handled reds, the shots wouldn't even be considered. They'd also put a rule of thirds grid on prints, and if it didn't conform to the rule of thirds, your shot would get the boot. Craziness!

[–]frenchbreddit 0 points1 point ago

You can't really blame them though, the reds look utterly fantastic, case in point.

[–]joculator -3 points-2 points ago

Let me get this straight: a group of people who live in a blue city and wear red turbins decided to play around with two bowls of red tomatoes and red chillis and the dude taking the pic just happened to be walking by....suuuuuuure.

[–]StewieBanana -5 points-4 points ago

Why is she holding a turd?

[–]undu -1 points0 points ago

Looks like a sweet potato root here.
