They are not actually made of stone, they are only stone when seen, it is never esxpressed what "material" they are when they are not percieved, so theoretically yes they can swim but if you look at them while they are swimming they would sink.

Cancun is fucking beautiful. I've been there twice with the whole family. The last time I went I went to Isla Mujeres at punta de garrafon... It is a small island near to Cancun where you can go snorkeling etc, its really beautiful, the water is clear and everything. When we got to Isla mujeres the whole family was swimming around and I saw 2 Barracudas, now I told my family to come over so that they could see them too. The barracudas were underneath a pier, probably because it had small fish around it and it had shade, anyways when I looked back into th water I didn't see them, so in my quest to find them I swam closer to the pier and shouted at my family that I couldn't see them. I blinked, looked into the water and I saw it. A Huge mother fucking shark silhouette. It was probably about 20 meters away from me, my family was also a good 20 meters ahead of me and I though I was dead. I shouted shark and swam as fast as I could, my whole family was laughing but I was saying that I was serious and there was a shark. I was swimming for my life, we got back on the boat and they told me I shouldn't joke about stuff like that and then I told them that I wouldn't joke about stuff like that. So my dad looked at where the pier was and he saw the silhouette too. It was a nurse shark, they don't do much but it still scared me shitless. My suggestion is if you go to Cancun don't blink, you will miss something amazing. Trust me.

Yeh I went to that place when I was younger, the exact spot where those statues are... however I was about 7 so I couldn't see them at all ;( I got into the water and all I saw was a Barracuda that scared my brother's and my ass out of the water, those things are ugly as fuck... The shark time 6monnths- a year ago.

Indeed. It's called free diving. It's a lot of fun when exploring coral reefs and such. When I used to live in Hawaii, my friend and I would free dive through underwater lava tubes. I wouldn't recommend trying that on your first day though.

I was in Cancun diving this March and asked my divemasters about this place. They laughed calling it the concrete museum. They take new divers there so they don't trample the reefs.
