It shouldn't be legal, but having to register as a sex offender (which had enormous consequences) for taking pictures of yourself seems harsh. This is just one example.

The debate on CP is all about "consent" and 18 is the age where you are considered an "adult who has ultimate control over their body". If it's their choice to distribute it, it should be irrelevant what age they WERE. Because it is their choice NOW and they are NOW an adult.

Not saying I'm a fan of CP or whatever.

P.S. Who cares what I think, I'm only 16 anyway.

It's actually not about consent. CP is sexual abuse of a child, regardless of if it is released after they are 18.

I think there should be some exceptions for people who take naked pictures of themselves when they are 16, but allowing people to consent to CP of themselves just because they've turned 18 doesn't solve the underlying issue.

The underlying issue is that child pornographers sexually abuse children. Obviously the law gets out of hand when it is prosecuting 16 year olds for trading nude pics, but the law is designed to protect underage kids from being victimized by child pornographers. Allowing them to take nude pictures of kids then release them once the child is 18 is just circumventing the law.

No... I'm not saying others can release them after they're 18.

I'm saying a girl takes them herself when she's 17. Only reason it's not legal is because she's "not old enough to make that decision". So, she turns 18 and now has clear judgement according to the law and she decides to release them herself. Completely her choice.

Because the entire issue of child porn is because " a person under 18 is not mature enough to make that decision" hence the age of consent. So if she is 18, she's mature enough to know what she's doing according to law. It's not like your body fucking transforms into some kind of legal machine when turn 18.

Age of consent in my state is 17, but only if you are less than 21. If you're older than 21, it's 18. As I said in a previous comment, I forget that pedo is the 12 and under group and ephebo is the 13 and greater group.

But the question you were responding to was asking if an 18 year old posted porn of her at 16 counted as child porn, and even though sex is legal at 16 in the UK, this situation would still be illegal. 16 is the age of consent in some of the US states, but that doesn't make porn allowed then.

The whole law is:

  • Age of consent is 14

  • If one of the two has some kind of power over the other, teacher, tutor, etc, 16

  • As low as 10 year olds are allowed to have consensual sex with someone up to 3 years older or younger then they are, but not younger than 10 years.

If you are wondering where such a depraved law exists, it's in Italy.

    I mean, if they were mutual acquaintances on Facebook and in real life, just having looked at her profile shouldn't be weird. Isn't sharing stuff with friends kind of the point of the site? Why put anything up at all if it's considered weird/creepy/stalker-ish for anybody else to look at it?

    If they were strangers then yeah, it would be awkward and weird. But if a girl I knew sat down next to me, opened her laptop and my Facebook profile was open in her browser I either wouldn't think anything of it (if I knew her really well) or I'd be flattered she had some sort of interest in me, romantic or not. Might work differently from a female perspective, though.

    A friend of mine (she's a girl, I'm a guy) invited me over once. We had been on 2 dates, weren't quite dating yet but definitely getting there. She popped her computer open to show me something and had an album entitled "Cory pics" on her desktop. She physically fought me to get the computer back and keep me from opening it. Needless to say there wasn't a third date.

    This actually happened to my friend IRL. He had been looking at this girl's Facebook photos and the three of us were on his bed. He opens his laptop and her face is right there on screen. We made fun of him for days.

    Related story: I was dating a guy, I slept over at his place one night and he decided to show me something on his computer. When I leaned over I saw several pictures of me he had saved to his desktop from my facebook. He tried to hide it quickly and I looked away pretending I didn't see....he awkwardly mentioned it and I just played it off like I didn't care. Shit was weird. Also, I'm a dude.
