My personal favorite: If Jesus turned water into wine, why is there still water?

tbf, i think that's the joke - it illustrates anti-evolutionists' misconceptions about evolution

[–]crazystrawman 4 points5 points ago

Non Sequitor. This is equally ridiculous as their comment about monkeys and evolu...oh, shit, um, I'll see myself out...

[–]RC4 2 points3 points ago

Thank you, sir. I was getting worried for a moment, after seeing so many fail trying to decipher the meaning behind OP's contribution.

[–]robson0 5 points6 points ago

If Eve was made out of ribs, why are there still ribs?

Mmmmm, ribs.

[–]ThirdRiver91 2 points3 points ago

Reads meme passive mindedly while taking a smoke. Thinks about it. Massive smoke violently rockets out of my nostrils.

Well played sir.

[–]jollyroger2022 1 point2 points ago

Even still, dust or dirt, I'm sure he couldn't have used ALL of it to make Adam.

[–]thomyorke64[S] 3 points4 points ago

Similarly, one might imagine that not ALL of our primate ancestors evolved into humans.

[–]nsomani 1 point2 points ago

But monkeys are not our ancestors.

[–]thomyorke64[S] -1 points0 points ago

That's why I said primates in my personal comment, and "monkeys" when characterizing the ridiculous arguments of the uninformed. Get it?

[–]nsomani 0 points1 point ago

The dirt that Creationists say Adam was made of is the same dirt that we have today. Therefore, if your comparison is truly analogous, then it is implied that the same primate ancestors that you mentioned are still here today.

Since you used "monkeys" in the meme, I could only assume that you were under the impression that we evolved from monkeys, and only some of the monkeys turned into humans while the rest remained the same (analogous to how some of the dirt was turned into Adam while the rest remained the same). I wanted to verify that you didn't believe in any misconception like that.

[–]thomyorke64[S] 0 points1 point ago

The top and bottom statements are meant to be equally ridiculous; even a cursory look at the comments would have explained that, but apparently you hadn't the time.

The point is that it is equally unscientific to believe either that humans are the sole descendents of our earliest primate ancestors, or that humans are the sole descendents of dirt. Through equating the ideas that all dirt must have become Adam, and all primates must have become men, I sought to highlight the common misunderstanding of the speciation that accounts for all the diversity of life.

You, and sadly several of your compatriot redditors, should have your irony filters examined. This is /r/atheism. We all know full well how common ancestry works. So don't take it so hard, dude. It was a joke, not a dick.

[–]extempest 1 point2 points ago

this would be better if you use philosoraptor

[–]LazerChicklets 1 point2 points ago

You don't use all the flour in the world to make one cookie.... I'm hungry.

[–]waffles1313 1 point2 points ago

If man is made in the image of God, then why is there still...

Oh.

[–]ragegage 1 point2 points ago

an accurate one would be: why does german still exist if we have english?

[–]thomyorke64[S] 1 point2 points ago

That's actually a really good analogy. I'll keep that in mind!

And yes, maybe I should have used a different comparison. I'm getting a ton of flac from people who think I don't understand the idea of a common ancestor with other primates... the top and bottom statements were meant to be equally ridiculous, but Poe's law and all.

[–]Princethor 1 point2 points ago

"If you take the bible literally, you are going to have a bad time"

[–]Chamrajnagar 3 points4 points ago

Because we didn't evolve from monkeys, humans and monkeys have a common ancestor.

[–]science_diction 3 points4 points ago

WOOSH!

[–]appliedphilosophy 1 point2 points ago

:D

[–]Genmaken 1 point2 points ago

Because god doesn't clean up after himself.

[–]OctaviusCaesar 0 points1 point ago

I hope you are using the monkey reference to show the fallacies of their argument. Because we are much closer to chimps

[–]thomyorke64[S] 0 points1 point ago

Yes, and great apes in general.

[–]Lightning_Boy 3 points4 points ago

Great Apes? Like the mighty Oozaroo?

[–]AnticScarab3 -1 points0 points ago

We're closer to chimps, but the most correct statement is that we evolved from apes. Actually, we still are classified as apes.

[–]4dams20 0 points1 point ago

flawless logic

[–]khuddler 0 points1 point ago

Apes. Fucking apes. Not monkeys.

[–]spazzymonkey 0 points1 point ago

I'm curious to know what kind of dirt Adam was supposed to be made of... clay? sand? a hyper-organic blend? was miracle-gro involved?

[–]RepostThatShit 0 points1 point ago

The original ancient Hebrew text says עפר (âphâr) which isn't unambiguous and can be ash, dust, soil or mud. It's usually translated as 'the dust of the earth', but the possible alternate meanings are acknowledged when we lay the dead to rest and mention "ashes" as well.

[–]harrysplinkett 0 points1 point ago

shitty logic is shitty

[–]B-Walsh 0 points1 point ago

This may not be the case for most of us but it really annoys me how many atheists claim to be evolutionists but have no idea how or why we evolved. I mean its all well and good to be an asshole to theists but if you're going to do it atleast get your facts straight.

[–]angrypikachu 0 points1 point ago

Bazinha

[–]iRun800 0 points1 point ago

Transformation isn't the same as evolution..

[–]ductaperecorder -4 points-3 points ago

How does this get 190+ upvotes? it doesn't even make sense. If you take a piece of bark off a tree and burn it, that doesn't make the entire tree burst into flame.

[–]thomyorke64[S] 1 point2 points ago

And if one group of primates evolve into humans, it doesn't logically follow that all the primates in the world must have evolved into humans. Duh.

[–]KingDub57 -3 points-2 points ago

You guys are all fucking dumb. You don't even understand how evolution works....a cornerstone of the atheist argument. Humans, monkeys, and apes evolved from a COMMON ANCESTOR. Once upon a time we were the same organism that split into two (or more) distinct organisms due to different environmental pressures. There isn't a linear model of how organisms evolve. No matter how much time you give a population of monkeys out in the wild you aren't gonna end up with a fucking human.

[–]thomyorke64[S] 1 point2 points ago

Dude, the whole point was that the top and bottom statements were supposed to be equally ridiculous & scientifically ignorant. Everyone on /r/atheism knows full well how common ancestry works. I think your irony filter could use a tune-up.

[–]KingDub57 0 points1 point ago

yeah internet irony/sarcasm works realllllly well. And no, I doubt everyone on /r/atheism truly understands common ancestry

[–]thomyorke64[S] 0 points1 point ago

Well then, it was a joke only for you, and people who are lucky enough to be as smart as we are. You should feel special.

I do.

[–]cosmicdandy 0 points1 point ago

Sir/Madam

[–]Jessibear -1 points0 points ago

Not necessarily environmental pressures but mutations in DNA.

[–]buckybone -1 points0 points ago

Shh...your logic will short out their brains.

[–]fegd -1 points0 points ago

That logic doesn't add up. Creationists think God used dirt to create Adam, not that ALL DIRT turned into Adam.

[–]your_a_faget -4 points-3 points ago

your a faget

[–]science_diction -1 points0 points ago

You can't spell.

Oh, and you're a jerk and a homophobe.
