Or the jugular vein, carotid artery, femoral artery, kidneys, liver. Hell, even an intestinal stab will kill you if it's dirty and you need not go very deep. The dying won't be quick, either. The face is the dumbest point of attack for a knife as it's the reflexive protection zone. You can't not try to protect your face. So many easier and more lethal places to go for.

Simply judging by how little blood there is he is likely to keep pretty stable until the knife is removed since it is keeping the woud shut simply by being there. The most dangerous part of an impalment injury like this is the removal of the device that did the impaling. Also the police officer needs to document something like that if possible. Not sure about the camera phone though.

Exactly, this looks like the time just after admittance to ER where doctors are waiting for access to testing and radiology (as they need a clear picture of what is happening before they remove the knife) There is nothing much they can do except keep him calm and let him puff the green whistle.

This is standard when people get shot or stabbed. The cops are documenting and collecting evidence. The other one is likely a resident with an iphone taking pictures for an internal presentation. The first priority is to establish a clear airway, that the patient is breathing and that he has circulation. He met all the criteria, which means there will be a knife in his face for a while until the right docs are consulted. The trauma team won't pull this one out - this guy will go out to Ear Nose and Throat docs. Somebody likely violated HIPAA by posting these images on the internet. Probably a tech.

What else are they going to do while they wait for the cop to take the pictures? They can't do anything to treat the wound while someone else is in the middle of trying to document it. It's not like whipping out a phone and snapping a photo is a long process nowadays.

No, people don't look at the subreddits, we just scroll through with all the images pre-opened with RES so there's no click-throughs to be bothered with. However, there's a setting that makes it so images tagged with NSFW don't automatically open.

If these are employees, I am fairly certain that the person who took this picture and the person with the cell phone camera have committed a HIPAA violation and will be fired if the hospital or patient finds out. Maybe even lose their license.

You cannot take pictures with your personal camera for your personal use, especially without patient consent. Without consent, this could also be an act of assault.
