Rules

  1. No screenshots, or pictures with added or superimposed text. This includes image macros, comics, info-graphics and most diagrams. Text (e.g. a URL) serving to credit the original author is exempt.

  2. No gore or porn. NSFW content must be tagged.

  3. No personal information. This includes anything hosted on Facebook's servers, as they can be traced to the original account holder. Stalking & harassment will not be tolerated.

  4. No solicitation of votes (including "cake day" posts), posts with their sole purpose being to communicate with another redditor, or [FIXED] posts. DAE posts go in /r/DoesAnybodyElse. "Fixed" posts should be added as a comment to the original image.

  5. Submissions must link directly to a specific image file or to an image hosting website with minimal ads. We do not allow blog hosting of images ("blogspam"), but links to albums on image hosting websites are okay. URL shorteners are prohibited.

  • If your submission appears to be filtered but definitely meets the above rules, please send us a message with a link to the comments section of your post (not a direct link to the image). Don't delete it as that just makes the filter hate you!

  • If you come across any rule violations, please report the submission or message the mods and one of us will remove it!

Please also try to come up with original post titles. Submissions that use certain clichés/memes will be automatically tagged with a warning.

Hmm. I've been on Reddit pretty consistently the past few days and haven't seen it. It's always weird when a comment like this appears and I feel like I should have seen the previous post. I guess it goes to show that even avid redditors miss front page posts.

Do you mean that reddit chooses posts you think you'll like and puts them on the front page? (like facebook does). Or do you just mean that if you subscribe to subreddits that you'll have stuff from there?

I have no idea what I mean. All I know is this:

  • If I go to reddit on a different computer, glance at the links, and then log in, a significantly different set of things are on the front page.
  • I made my account but never subscribed/unsubscribed to any subreddits. My subscriptions are whatever is the default configuration, so I can only assume that reddit is somehow catering itself to me.

Sorry, that was badly worded. But as for my example, the facebook news feed remembers what you clicked on, and uses that to judge what it thinks you would like to see in the future.

Perhaps it's the same thing, I really don't know. It would be interesting to find out why reddit does it.

I first saw the gif in a gchat status and thought i'd share it on Reddit. I submitted to r/pics, as it is a collection of pics; the link hadn't been posted to r/pics and therefore not flagged on submission. From the looks of it, about over a 1000 people also hadn't seen the gif.

This is the first time I saw this. I really liked it and upvoted. Normally that would be enough.

I'm kind of annoyed at all the complaints about duplicate posts. I wish you people would just move on if you've already seen something. Reddit isn't here exclusively for you. You don't call HBO and complain that they've been playing the same damn movies all month do you? Not everyone is sitting there all day watching every fucking movie back to back. I wasn't sitting here monitoring reddit, making sure to see everything that got posted because it might only get posted once.

Wow some redditors are real idiots, you have to realise reposts will be reposted forever and ever until the site goes down or the earth gets hit by a comet. EVERY repost is new to someone! as this one was to me. ( at the time of writing this pic has 2136 upvotes!!) Downvotes should be directed at people saying "repost" etc as these comments really dont add to the conversation/discussion.

Imagine you're having a party, and you've invited thirty people.

The first guy, let's call him Bill, comes in and tells you a joke.

When the second person walks in the door, Bill tells the same joke again for the new person. Then a third person comes in, and Bill tells his same joke again. This continues happening all night long every time someone walks in the door.

While it might be acceptable for Bill to tell his joke a second time after more people have arrived, telling the same joke every two to three minutes for an hour straight is just annoying to everyone.

On Reddit, the same thing applies. Re-posting something a few months later is fine. Even one month later doesn't gather many complaints. But after seeing the same image posted sixteen times in 18 hours, the "it's new to me" excuse is starting to wear a little thin.

Your analogy doesn't really work. It's more like you invite persons A through Z to your party. Person A tells person B a joke, and person R overhears it and laughs. Person C tells person D the same joke, and person R gets cranky and starts griping that person A already told that joke. Who cares? Should person D not get to hear the joke just because it's already been told?

I never saw the gif, I don't care how MentalArbitage found it, and I couldn't care less how many other people have seen it on reddit.
