Because people weren't as aware of photo manipulation then as they are now.

[–]Jay_Normous 151 points152 points ago

"Why can't presidents do this anymore?"

"... because they never did?"

[–]decaf23 16 points17 points ago

Each of these links have been more epic than the title by a very consistent amount.

[–]FurryEels 28 points29 points ago

I'm disappointed all that I can give you is an upvote for the work you've put into this.

Vladimir Putin runs the country?

[–][deleted] 9 points10 points ago

Charlie Sheen ain't got shit on Putin

[–]TBrogan 0 points1 point ago

hunter s thompson. i win.

[–]temudgin 1 point2 points ago

the put action figure totally looks like the techno viking.

[–]rhubarb_9 2 points3 points ago

It seems that Putin spends more time setting up these photos than doing what he should be doing. The artifact thing was a fake, the tiger photo has a 99.9% chance of being fake. Russians dont seem to like him very much, especially since everyone believes the last election was rigged. I think of this(putin on the left) when I hear Putin.

[–]Naphthos 0 points1 point ago*

FYI: Putin's press secretary actually admitted that archaeologists cleaned and planted the ancient pottery in the sea for the sole purpose of a photo-op that further cultivated Putin's image as an action-hero-renaissance-man. Flim-flammery is the norm in Russia's kleptocracy

[–]buckygrad 0 points1 point ago

These will all show up as separate posts in /r/wtf in an hour.

[–]canyoushowmearound 71 points72 points ago

Still though, OP made a very valid point. I would give almost anything for another Teddy Roosevelt, Abraham Lincoln or FDR to rise up and take hold of our nation. We need a strong leader with bulletproof integrity to bring the GOP and dems back to common ground and to put our nation back on the right track.

I'm sick of all these spineless leaders that let congress and big business walk all over whatever ideals they once had (not hating on Obama, just the rut the office of the president seems to have fallen in).

[–]garrisonc 99 points100 points ago

I would give almost anything for another [...] FDR to rise up and take hold of our nation.

Heyooo!

[–]Captainpatch 34 points35 points ago

I thought the better zing would be the "bulletproof integrity" part about three presidents who had assassination attempts against them. Lincoln died and the assassins missed FDR, so I think only Theodore Roosevelt earned the title of bulletproof for continuing to give his speech with a gunshot wound.

October 14, 1912: Three and a half years after he left office, Roosevelt was running for President as a member of the Progressive Party established in 1912 by Roosevelt and other political free thinkers, after he split from the Republican Party which he had served as a member of during his Presidency. In Milwaukee, Wisconsin, John F. Schrank, a saloon-keeper from New York, shot Roosevelt once with a .38 caliber revolver. A 50-page speech folded over twice in Roosevelt's breast pocket and a metal glasses case slowed the bullet. Amidst the commotion, Roosevelt yelled out, "Quiet! I've been shot." Roosevelt insisted on giving his speech with the bullet still lodged inside him. During his speech Roosevelt stated, "It takes more than one bullet to bring down a Bull Moose" thus further perpetuating Roosevelt's image as a larger than life President and the nickname of the Progressive Party, the Bull Moose Party established in June 1912 after Roosevelt responded to reporters questioning his health stating, "I am as strong as a Bull Moose". He later went to the hospital, but the bullet was never removed. Roosevelt, remembering that William McKinley died after operations to remove his bullet, chose to have his remain.

[–]shadowblade 33 points34 points ago

remembering that William McKinley died after operations to remove his bullet, chose to have his remain.

Fuck it, say whatever the hell you want about TR. I'd give anything for a president that learns from history.

[–]San-Miguel 22 points23 points ago

Too soon?

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points ago

"I know that feel...oh wait, nvm"

-FDR-

[–][deleted] 6 points7 points ago

Reagan did a pretty good job of "rising up and taking hold." If you didn't go along with him and what he wanted, he would destroy you. Reddit hates Reagan's policies though.

Determination means nothing unless its congruent with your beliefs.

[–]zak-R 6 points7 points ago

I don't know if the same approach would work at a national level, but Gary Johnson seemed very effective as a two-term Governor in New Mexico. Elected and re-elected as a Republican in a primarily Democratic state, took it from a deficit to a surplus, cut through the the bureaucratic bullshit and big business lobbying by vetoing more bills than all other state governors.

Proven track record on his integrity, successful business owner, socially liberal fiscally conservative, and he scaled Mount Everest! Seems like a bad ass candidate to me.

[–]drednought 2 points3 points ago

Came here to say exactly this.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points ago

Huzzah for Gary Johnson! Huzzah!

[–]Jay_Normous 12 points13 points ago

Good point. How "great" were these men really though? We know they did some incredible works, but that's after decades have gone by and potentially forgotten their missteps and controversial decisions. Surely they weren't universally loved, so what was wrong about them that we either forget or choose to ignore?

[–]canyoushowmearound 13 points14 points ago

It's true that they weren't universally loved, but I think what sets them apart is that they never tried to be. They had direction, and did not falter from what they wanted to achieve.

I know it's unrealistic for a president like Teddy Roosevelt to be elected in this day and age, but I just want to see a president that does justice to the office, and shows the US and the rest of the world that the American government still works, and can still be a model for other democracies.

[–]Spoonofdarkness 7 points8 points ago

in short, they were LEADERS, not puppets of their respective parties.

[–]mcbridea 7 points8 points ago

Banana republicanism in south/ central america, suspension of habeas corpus, and internment camps, respectively.

also, TR was a progressive, and sought to close all saloons in Manhattan.

[–]DontForgetYour__ 4 points5 points ago

That saloon context is taken out of context. He closed all saloons on sundays which was New York state law at the time. His purpose in enforcing the law was to demonstrate that it was better to change a bad law than to ignore it. "Rise of Theodore Roosevelt" it is awesome, you should read it.

[–]amaefm 12 points13 points ago

Having just read Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter I can assure you that he was indeed a great man.

[–]winkandthegun 0 points1 point ago

It's true. Lincoln pulled some pretty shady moves that would send people off the deep end today. FDR threatened to stack the Supreme Court with 6 additional justices of his own choosing because they were ruling his legislation unconstitutional (conveniently a justice switched to his side and the issue went away - google 'switch in time saved nine').

You can find something to like and dislike about pretty much every president - politics haven't changed much.

[–]alcoholland 6 points7 points ago

Would they get elected? Teddy did many extremely shitty things that had they occurred in a 24hr news cycle might make his legacy different.

[–]spazmodic- 2 points3 points ago

The problem is that these candidates typically have some obscure bullshit about them that their opponents will focus on. "Don't vote for John Johnson, in 2003 he went to the local coffee shop and they charged him for a medium BUT HE GOT A LARGE AND DIDN'T SAY ANYTHING. This time, tell John we don't need his greed. Vote Steve 2012." The worst part is that this stupid tactic actually works.

To me, when I see those slander ads, I think "big fucking deal." I don't care whether the pres drinks whiskey during his televised speeches, dresses like a bum, or believes in a giant hotdog god-being if he can do a good job at being president. All the current system does is give the edge to lying, manipulating, doublespeaking, waffling, and self-interested jerks.

[–]Nrksbullet 3 points4 points ago

I believe that is a very American thing. As far as I know, in France, at the funeral of the ex-president, his wife sat front row, as well as his known mistresses, and nobody said a damn thing.

If you can do the job, do the job. People are too wrapped up in "character" because we have painted ourselves into a corner thinking that people in the spotlight need to be perfect.

[–]yep_nope 2 points3 points ago

Bulletproof integrity? No human being ever gets to the top of a world power using integrity. Every person you listed did some very shady things to get to the top and once there they did even more shady things. Roosevelt= Brownsville affair, helping Panama succede from Columbia Lincoln= Suspension of Habeas Corpus FDR= attempt to pack the Supreme Court

All great presidents because in aggregate they helped the nation, but don't be nieve enough to think they had bulletproof integrity.

[–]blue_moose 4 points5 points ago

You'll love Putin.

[–]cyberslick188 2 points3 points ago

Few of those leaders had "bulletproof integrity", but your point stands.

We really have this bad habit as a community (and as people in general) to idolize great leaders of the past. The truth is the world is different, and for all we know, Obama is the same caliber of leader of a modern day FDR.

It should also be said that it's much easier to unite people during a catastrophe, and also during a time when the media overwhelmingly worked in your favor. The media today has no interest in working honestly with the president.

[–][deleted] ago

[deleted]

[–]Lawsuitup 5 points6 points ago

The statement began with "for all we know"

[–]Zamiel 1 point2 points ago

I bust out laughing at bullet proof integrity being mentioned alongside FDR.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point ago

Oh for the rose tinted spectacles of nostalgia.

[–]doctorcrass 0 points1 point ago

we glorify them after they leave. I'm sure tons of people hated them or thought they were in the pocket of big business back then and that was before we had 24/7 smutty news coverage and the internet. shit like this

[–]Boris41029 1 point2 points ago

TR, Lincoln and FDR were each seen as just another politician in their time.

[–]SoberPandaren 0 points1 point ago

Arguably those people were all people of their time. Abraham Lincoln didn't argue for abolition, he rather would have had all slaves be set to an island so they can live out their days for example.

[–]dhockey63 6 points7 points ago

Actually Teddy Roosevelt was an avid outdoorsman. He chronicled his experiences and adventures in his memoires/diaries. You should look them up before you make a rash statement like that

[–]justanothercommenter 3 points4 points ago

Barack Obama is also an avid outdoorsman.

Proof.

[–]sendmealink 12 points13 points ago

This particular photo might be doctored, but TR was truly a badass. He was a legit rancher and cowboy, and once escorted two prisoners hundreds of miles down a river by himself; explored a river in Brazil on a trip that nearly killed him; swam every day in the icy Potomac River. I could go on, but he was The Man in every sense of the word.

[–]SoberPandaren 1 point2 points ago

To be fair it was during the time when the world was still left mostly unexplored and the romanticized aspects of it were still being explored.

[–]sewneo 8 points9 points ago

Are you claiming you have proof that this is not a genuine photograph?

[–]steamed__hams 2 points3 points ago

Even if this photo is doctored, there's no denying that Teddy Roosevelt was one tough son of a bitch, and that he makes current politicians look like complete sissies.

[–]Odusei 2 points3 points ago

[–]DeathStrudel 74 points75 points ago

"How could the president take time away from matters of state to do something so ridiculous!?"

"Obviously part of the liberal agenda."

"That poor moose! I'm going to start an internet petition!"

"He's obviously trying to take attention away from his sagging poll numbers."

"This is a conspiracy! I can tell because the photo is obviously shopped! Look at the pixels! The angle of the sun..."

"Ron Paul 2012!"

"Hey, I got a moose knuckle he can ride!"

"The moose is canadian... The submission to socialism is finally complete! Save your children!"

"Why didn't we see Reagan riding that lion?! Fucking liberal media!"

"I remember when presidents used to eat moose! This feminization of America is going to ruin a once fine country!"

"Kony 2012!!!!!"

And other such reasons.

[–][deleted] 9 points10 points ago

To be fair, this photo does look shopped as hell.

[–]Dantae 4 points5 points ago

That is because it is. And while it is doctored all to hell it is so damned believable because Teddy Roosevelt is that bad ass.

[–]Dustin- 0 points1 point ago

It is. I can tell from the shadows and from seeing quite a few shops in my time.

[–]haavarl 71 points72 points ago

Because there's only one Vladimir Putin.

[–]Insidius1 41 points42 points ago

Putin got all the bad-assery for this generation.

http://imgur.com/yFKYv

[–]jacobo 2 points3 points ago

is he a badass because he has a gun? ಠ_ಠ

[–]Remilla 5 points6 points ago

No, I'm fairly sure he used that dart gun in the second pic to bring down a tiger for study purposes. That is why he is BA.

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points ago

In the second one this is what he is saying..

"See, thats how we used to shoot hippies. Now we just use nerve gas."

[–]Kvawrf 7 points8 points ago

Who would win in a fight?

http://i.imgur.com/TVWnP.jpg

[–]rasputine 9 points10 points ago

Toss up. The american flag is a poor saddle, the constitution is a poor shield, and M416 with a forgrip and lasersight is only really good at mid-close range, but not fast enough firing rate at point blank. It'd really end up as putin vs. the bear, and if I know anything about russia, they make bears dance to a different tune.

[–]gjallerhorn 1 point2 points ago

[–]mr_regato 4 points5 points ago

Did everybody miss all of the staged Putin photo ops that have been uncovered over the past couple of years?

Sure, he's a bit of a badass, but he also was extremely successful at cultivating that image on purpose. Here is a recent example. A while back a series of photos of Putin doing manly things went viral until it was demonstrated that officials doctored and/or staged most or all of them.

And yet, here we are.

[–]Major_Butthurt 1 point2 points ago

This is called cunt cult of personality. He was an active agent of KGB, so that already makes him a badass. However people can't know what he has done during his service and getting undercover again would be a stupid choice. So they portray his badassines through staged events. And it fuckin' works.

[–]TrueMilli 42 points43 points ago*

I raise your photoshopped Roosevelt with a photoshopped Obama.

€: Since many people believe this was real - proof for fake. Credits to CUBICcube.

Also Roosevelt is much sharper than the blurry rest of the photo, his hand positioning doesn't make any sense, and the ripples where his legs meet the water looks very awkward.

Also: When I say "photoshopped Roosevelt" I mean whatever they used to fake photos in 1900 (probably scissors and glue).

[–]LeCoeur 29 points30 points ago

Well, in the case of Teddy Roosevelt I'm 90% sure he died.

[–]I_wwebsite 13 points14 points ago

Also, nobody is this badass anymore

[–]thatthatguy 17 points18 points ago

No one was that badass even then. That's why Teddy there was so famous. He was like superman with a cowboy hat.

[–]morpheousmarty 0 points1 point ago

He was like superman with a cowboy hat.

So... like Reagan?

I'm kidding, of course. Superman was an illegal immigrant. Like Obama.

[–]dakunism 38 points39 points ago

Not to be Sir Buzzkillington and maybe I'm wrong...but this photo looks doctored. The way his leg enters the water is just weird and he is a lot lighter than the moose. He also has his hands holding onto what would be the reins of a horse saddle even though the moose has no reins on it.

[–]das_uberdog 14 points15 points ago

moar like Sir Actuallypayingattentionton amirite?

[–]TbroOnline 2 points3 points ago

it's real via cracked - (I know I know)

This picture is real, this scene existed, and yes, at one point in our history, you could have actually voted for this man. We do not know if this was a publicity stunt, a routine hunting incident or seriously how our beloved President Theodore Roosevelt used to ride to work every day. All we know is that it was taken during the 1900 presidential election campaign and as far as we are concerned, virtually guaranteed William McKinley's re-election for as many terms as God gave him.

Read more: 18 Old-Timey Photos You Won't Believe Aren't Photoshopped | Cracked.com http://www.cracked.com/article_19065_18-old-timey-photos-you-wont-believe-arent-photoshopped.html#ixzz1tjY0oEiY

[–]das_uberdog 0 points1 point ago

hey man, i'd believe it with some better evidence, but the photo looks like a shit-tier 'shoop. i looked around for a bit and i couldn't find anything to substantiate the picture before i became very lazy. it is likely that mooses and Theodore Roosevelt never even existed.

[–]Kit_L 4 points5 points ago

Teddy Roosevelt would be considered a pyscho by today's standards and far too brash to be a Head of State.

[–]tesla3327 19 points20 points ago

Because our current president got publicly attacked because he killed a fly... Imagine what they would do if he rode a moose.

[–]Fidena 12 points13 points ago

Probably less than 1% of the population of our country actually cared about the president killing a fly. What needs to happen is disregard for the loud, vocal outlying minority complaining about things.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points ago

What needs to happen is disregard for the loud, vocal outlying minority complaining about things.

They are already ignoring redditors.

[–]fritzwilliam-grant -1 points0 points ago

I think the killing of at least 1,000 civilians is something to complain and be vocal about. Just like when Bush invaded Iraq and civilian casualties came by the thousands. Plenty of people were complaining then, now not so much.

[–]Twyll 3 points4 points ago

I told my parents that my boyfriend's favorite president was Teddy Roosevelt, thinking, oh hey he was a Republican, they'll appreciate that! Instant silence, then my mom gasps, "But... but he was a PROGRESSIVE!" in the same tone you might say "he was a CHILD RAPIST" or "he was a SERIAL KILLER!"

So, people like my mom. Probably why.

[–]marswithrings 0 points1 point ago

i have no idea why, but i have you tagged as "Thought He Was Turning Into A Frog "

[–]Liliauna 12 points13 points ago

Someone would complain about animal cruelty. Then a three month tabloid fiasco would ensue with pictures every time he/she walked by a dog without feeding/petting it.

[–]iamasw 4 points5 points ago

Teddy Moosevelt

[–]Rockstallion 3 points4 points ago

Because moose are fucking terrifying.

[–]Khue 0 points1 point ago

[–]SethLeBatard 2 points3 points ago

[–]BethanyBHitsMe 2 points3 points ago

I believe it's because if our president did this P.E.T.A would have something to say about it.

[–]bloodylip 2 points3 points ago

Nobody gives a shit what PETA says about anything.

[–]Jeditron18 2 points3 points ago

Because Vladimir Putin, thats why.

[–]irobeth 2 points3 points ago

[–]fakeup 1 point2 points ago

Move to Russia.

[–]malcolmreynolds1989 0 points1 point ago

I feel like seeing pictures of Obama fist bumping janitors and letting little kids feel his hair is the modern-day equivelent. Seeing a president with the humility of a real human being is uplifting, IMO

[–]poolboywax 2 points3 points ago

this badass became president because people were too scared of him having any authority. he was put into vice president position by his party since it was a dead end job for politicians at the time. but the president died and bam, this glorious man was given the reigns.

[–]BeerMeNow 0 points1 point ago

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points ago

Because we no longer elect men who have served in a war, who know the costs of it.

Because the majority of the presidents that we've had in recent memory had fairly easy lives.

Because we choose to elect whatever president we think is most handsome, or that we'd like to have a beer with, or whoever has the best slogan.

Because by and large, most of the men and women in this country have it pretty fucking good compared to our grandfathers, and have never known hunger, hard work, suffering or what it means to earn something, anywhere near what people like Teddy Roosevelt, or any of the other presidents that we cream our jeans over knew.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point ago

Because you faggots vote democrat

[–]Unstopkable 4 points5 points ago

Why do you have to ruin Teddy Roosevelts legacy with this doctored photo. The guy was a bad ass. All you had to do was post a portrait of him. That would have been enough.

[–]droy0 2 points3 points ago

This picture is fake.

[–]frederick0 1 point2 points ago

Looks like north Korea propaganda.

[–]abrupte 1 point2 points ago

Photo-manipulation be damned. Teddy's bad-assedness can never be questioned, he killed a cougar with a knife for fucks sake.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points ago

Why can't our presidents be this bad ass anymore?

Because they're probably too engrossed in keeping their corporate American masters appeased, while spoon feeding the public propaganda bullshit in order to ensure they get re-elected.

[–]Xenopus_laevis 1 point2 points ago

I'm fairly certain no other president in the history of the US was as badass as Teddy Roosevelt.

[–]m19z95k 2 points3 points ago

I hate to say it but... Sarah Palin.

[–]lost623 1 point2 points ago

[–]DevilsmeadReturned 5 points6 points ago

yet he got stuck in a bath tub

[–]flipasaurus 7 points8 points ago

That poor water buffalo.

[–]KimJongUno 4 points5 points ago

I think that water buffalo (or whatever) actually deserves the props on this one.

[–]Lee1066 2 points3 points ago

Started a big game killer, change to earth friendly. Great President.

[–]synn89 26 points27 points ago

He didn't change. He went big game hunting after his presidency.

Hunters have traditionally been conservationists because they're out in nature and don't want to see it destroyed.

[–]asterix299 2 points3 points ago

There's a great book about this: A Sand County Almanac by Aldo Leopold. It really shows this attitude well, the threat to nature is more in the tourists who want to take a piece of the nature back home with them rather than the hunter who spends most of his life out in the wilderness.

[–]nitefang 11 points12 points ago

Hunters have always been a huge advocate to saving the environment. Teddy never stopped hunting and he always cared about protecting the wilderness. A major reason he wanted to set aside safe areas for animals was so that they wouldn't go extinct.

[–]tbscotty68 2 points3 points ago*

Not very Filipino-friendly, though - killed about a million and a half civilians. Edit: I'm not sure why I would get downvoted. Read history, don't fantasize about. Roosevelt was a white supremacist that deemed filipinos "pacific niggers," unfit to govern themselves and eligible for extermination. Unfortunately, these concepts were promoted at all of the "finer" Universities of the time.

[–]castsnoshadows 4 points5 points ago

well, we made it up to the phillipinos with MacArthur. they fucking loved that guy.

[–]patronizingperv 0 points1 point ago

First recorded occurrence of photoshop.

[–]qounqer -1 points0 points ago

wow this is not obviously a poorly photo shoped picture.

[–]Glalie 0 points1 point ago

If he did not have a mustache, this picture would have been around 1/4 as awsome

[–]Wrongfecko7 1 point2 points ago

Because people would be way pissed if Obama took a day off to ride a Moose.

[–]itp757 1 point2 points ago

i swear teddy roosevelt is just a myth, like bigfoot or superman. no one person can be that bamf.

[–]be81827 0 points1 point ago

Because we're a nation of pansies raised on videogames and television who only respect people who lie to us with a straight face.

[–]deadbaby -1 points0 points ago

Move to Spain or Russia. They have leaders that are real big into hunting over there. Also human rights and electoral abuses, but hey, a badass is a badass, right?

[–]redditticktock 0 points1 point ago

palin coulda done that and probably did

[–]beardpirate 0 points1 point ago

A substantial lack of facial hair.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point ago

Because PETA wasn't protesting any and everything that had to do with animals back then.

[–]brisingfreyja 1 point2 points ago

Because the secret service wont let them?

[–]Preech 1 point2 points ago

Id say maybe Putin is on the Teddy level of badassery. But definately not any recent American president.

[–]sceneyweenie 0 points1 point ago

[–]MadhouseMedic 0 points1 point ago

Dude, that's shooped all to hell

[–]iamnotatroll 1 point2 points ago

Back then they were probably like "pansy ass president fording a river on a big fancy moose"

[–]jimsnaps 1 point2 points ago

Well, you could start idolizing Putin. ಠ_ಠ

[–]superanth 0 points1 point ago*

"Once again exhibiting his largess when it came to caring for all creatures great and small, President Roosevelt was good enough to hold the injured moose between this legs and keep its head above water as he walked across the lake."

Because if they were, they would get torn to shreds by all of us for questioning their motive as to why they're doing what they're doing.

same reason they no longer lead us into battle but send 17 year olds out in their place....

[–]jumpup 0 points1 point ago

because to be this bad ass you need a certain lvel of testosterone wich will interfere with diplomatic relationships, and violence is no longer the answer

Long answer: Lawyers.

[–]always_cheezin 0 points1 point ago

because you can't do background checks on a moose to check if its safe for the president!

[–]quitnoworlater 0 points1 point ago

To answer ur question...PETA...that's why.

[–]earwigy1990 0 points1 point ago

He can still dunk.

[–]jai07 0 points1 point ago

Because then they aren't doing their job. Apparently, if they're not in their office 24/7 they accomplish nothing. Twas different times.

[–]killafofun 0 points1 point ago

because the bleeding hearts would go batshit insane.

[–]rudesasquatch 0 points1 point ago

What are you taking about, the previous one was an imperialist.

[–]c3h8o2 0 points1 point ago

FUCK YA!! ROUGH RIDERS!!

[–]A_Giraffe 0 points1 point ago

Because if any contemporary president were doing anything other than what 100% of the population want him to do (which is, of course, impossible), he's "wasting time and money." The only exemption to this is family time.

[–]Greglorious21 0 points1 point ago

Liberals

[–]quakeaddict 0 points1 point ago

Because they aren't Teddy Roosevelt.

Also, Teddy Roosevelt had an inferiority complex and essentially tried to overcompensate by being a complete and utter badass. Girlfriend read it in a book about his "Imperial Cruise".

[–]loojit 0 points1 point ago

Assassination attempts.

[–]lYossarian 1 point2 points ago

I've never seen that photo so blown up and I didn't realize how evident it is that Roosevelt is superimposed.

[–]prof_doxin 0 points1 point ago

You need to spend time in r/politics. They believe devoutly that Obama pointing his finger is bad ass.

[–]kidjay76 0 points1 point ago

Because people would complain about tax dollars wasted on moose rides.

[–]chemistry_teacher -1 points0 points ago

They are ALL badass, thanks to CGI.

[–]JEGA15 0 points1 point ago

Bartlet for America

welcome to everyday in Canada

[–]brad1775 1 point2 points ago

looking at the shadows on his jacket vs. the shadow of the moose's ear... doesn't like look like a photoshop job... from 1925?? I mean, my grampa was a photographer, they altered photograps for asthetics, as well as comedy! Also, the line of his knees at the water looks suspisicously like a fudge job with a pencil (that's how they did it, pencils...) I want to go look this up, I bet it says "roosevelt riding the bull moose to victory" for a title, as he was a candidate for that political party (the party he founded)

[–]ThisIsWhyImHere 0 points1 point ago

Awh, man... I guess titles do matter after all. This didn't do very well when I submitted it a few months ago, but still, I fucking love the picture, so upvotes.

[–]Bearnun 0 points1 point ago

Lesson learned: While the US's presidents' have become to really suck, Russia's have maintained awesomeness.

....

Must be the alcohol.

[–]commandodude1265 -1 points0 points ago

Because they moved to Russia. aka Putinlandia.

[–]Dominic_Santini 0 points1 point ago

It's a dressage moose.

[–]eddymurphyscouch 0 points1 point ago

I'm on a moose.

[–]zip99 1 point2 points ago

Teddy Roosevelt was a war mongering psychopath.

[–]Number60000 0 points1 point ago

“In those days spirits were brave, the stakes were high, men were real men, women were real women and small furry creatures from Alpha Centauri were real small furry creatures from Alpha Centauri.” - Douglas Adams

[–]larryspub 0 points1 point ago

because people would make them feel guilty about being awesome and then they would go back to being what we have now.

[–]0l1vR 0 points1 point ago

Yeah Robin Williams is great :)

[–]DukeOfGeek 0 points1 point ago

Teddy was meant to balance and energize the ticket that had robber baron puppet William McKinley as President. He was never meant to be anywhere near real power and only an anarchist's bullet put him there.

[–]Frankentim_the_crim 1 point2 points ago

because back then people who became president would have dedicated their lives to becoming highly achieved, intelligent, righteous, well rounded individuals. Their virtues and their achievements validated them as presidential candidates. Today, power hungry, soul sucking scum bags dedicate their lives to climbing a political ladder devoid of virtue or righteousness, cutting deals and shaking hands until someone decides they would be perfect for being the ultimate pawn - the president. They are the opposite of badasses. They are spineless pieces of shit.

[–]SEGA_SONIC 0 points1 point ago

Because democrats

[–]RufusTruthfist 0 points1 point ago

Not sure if this has been posted, since I'm too lazy to look and all, but ol' Teddy went blind in one eye due to an injury he sustained in a boxing match...while serving as president. I thought that was pretty cool.

[–]riggyslim 1 point2 points ago

why can't our presidents be normal, non elitists?

[–]Zerozero0111 0 points1 point ago

Acting "badass" in no way guarantees that one would make a suitable president.

[–]DirtyMonday 1 point2 points ago

Teddy used to shake the hand of any and every person who could make the trip to the white house on New Years Day. Not possible anymore but man would that have been a treat. He also could read several books a day and actually ran out of books to read and would read studies done by scientists and the like. Read that in his Biography, fascinating man

[–]giddyupbugger 0 points1 point ago

Because of Peta.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point ago

I think technocrats are pretty badass. Intelligence, good intentions, moderation and self discipline are a neat combo.

[–]jp5384 0 points1 point ago

I would have just caulked the wagon.

[–]BeefyTits 0 points1 point ago

Teddy Roosevelt and Cee Lo Green have the same happy face.

[–]grumblz 0 points1 point ago

he also thought the native americans deserved to get exterminated and was kind of a patsy for corporate imperialism but that's neither here nor there

[–]Ago_Solvo 0 points1 point ago

Because Teddy Roosevelt was a pedophile.

[–]SPEMason 0 points1 point ago

You gotta admit, TR was quite a man

[–]harmonicoasis 1 point2 points ago

Didn't Sarah Palin get flamed for shooting wolves from a helicopter?

[–]drewbiedoobiedoo 0 points1 point ago

Easy, because you fuckers will post that shit all over the internet and call it animal cruelty while calling for his/her head!

[–]MisterAwesome333 0 points1 point ago

If you think that's badass, look up Andrew Jackson. You're welcome.

[–]TBrogan 0 points1 point ago

because they would be all over TMZ

[–]dirty_fingers 0 points1 point ago

Because our president is a pussy.

[–]DeepBlue12 0 points1 point ago

Elect me and they can be

[–]permasmile 0 points1 point ago

Teddy had a +9' stick

[–]Praesumo 0 points1 point ago

Because these days only pansy-assed, sheltered rich kids ever get elected. I mean, look at who the Republicans have chosen THIS time. He's like the poster-child for the 1% You think he's ever done anything that doesn't require a suit?...nope.

[–]ldawg092498 0 points1 point ago

Damnit. I saw this pic in a test booklet a few weeks ago and thought about posting it. THAT SHOULD BE MY KARMA!!!

[–]Awsomejake5 0 points1 point ago

Because the liberal media will twist it around

[–]oD3 0 points1 point ago

Australian here, didn't you Americans have a president that killed a yeti with a shotgun or some shit?
