That was way better than I expected.

[–]Hail-Of-Bullets[S] 21 points22 points ago

This is taken from zenpencils -- I love the illustrations and the quotes he usually picks.

[–]kitaro53085 18 points19 points ago

Hah. It's listed as comic #42.

Intentional?

[–]Marcounon 3 points4 points ago

I hope to /God/ it is!

[–]mtldude1967 10 points11 points ago

[–]iwasinthepool 8 points9 points ago

I watch that almost daily.

[–]kopetsj 5 points6 points ago

Didn't expect all those chills going up my spine...

[–]melzor82 2 points3 points ago

I got the chills and a little teary-eyed...

[–]MIUfish 2 points3 points ago

Love it!

[–]TMalthus 0 points1 point ago

Same, it's beautiful

[–]forshow 2 points3 points ago

He is not an atheist.

[–]WordSlinger81 1 point2 points ago

So? Does that mean we can't agree with or enjoy a visual depiction of sentiments he expressed?

[–]forshow 1 point2 points ago

Yes we can.

[–]Poptarter 1 point2 points ago

That last comic slide really was the cherry on top.

[–]Artegan 1 point2 points ago

Is it just me, or is that baby incredibly creepy?

[–]TiltCap 1 point2 points ago

Such an important point. I know a lot of people who reject the scientific explanation of the creation and evolution of the universe do so as they feel the grandeur of the universe is only respected by invoking the existence of a creator.

If this even makes one person realise that the real explanations of what is going on in the universe is far more profound than any explanation that can ever be offered by pure conjecture, then I tilt my cap to you sir.

Thank you for sharing this!

I read the whole thing in NdGT's voice... sadly I'm writing this in my own voice and it just doesn't feel as grand... I'm a sad panda...

[–]TwistingWagoo 0 points1 point ago

Tyson is awesome. Enough said.

[–]richertai 0 points1 point ago*

That was FREAKING awesome! Thanks for posting it!

[–]BigBeardedMan 0 points1 point ago

Amazing

[–]brnitschke 0 points1 point ago

I wish I could produce a tiny hologram of NdGT to explain this concept every time I'm confronted with someone (usually a theist) who can't fathom what it means to say we came from star dust. I try to explain and people just get mad at me. :(

[–]Rigglebop 0 points1 point ago

No matter how many times I read this I get the chills.

[–]DrMazen 0 points1 point ago

Doesn't matter how many times I hear that quote, it still give me chills every time.

[–]goofygoobarock 0 points1 point ago

Beautiful, but what does this have to do with atheism?

[–]fries_in_a_cup 0 points1 point ago

Here, take all of my upvotes. This post deserves it.

[–]doneitnow 0 points1 point ago

I would love some emphasis on some of the words. For example - the word scattering should be bolded or something.

[–]kayray 0 points1 point ago

Beautiful. Thank you for posting this.

[–]dkkc19 0 points1 point ago

That's nice and all. But I'm confused about Neil's religion, he's a theist right? If he's a theist, well that's pretty confusing point of view of a theist.

As I stated in the other thread that had this picture in it, I don't like that the primate in the picture directly before humans looks so much like a modern gorilla, it's that sort of mistake that stops evolution from being understood by part of the proportion of the population that don't accept it.

[–]chaoslord 1 point2 points ago

Actually Carl Sagan said it best:

"The Cosmos is within all of us, we are made of star stuff. We are a way for the Cosmos to know itself."

Brief, Eloquent and Elegant.

[–]TanithZA 0 points1 point ago

I also like Feynman, "An atom in the universe and a universe of atoms". That particular speech was just so poetic.
