New people are always welcome and that goes way beyond what is and is not a repost. Turns out that I'm breaking the rules by bitching just as much as people are for reposting. So, I'll stop bitching if people agree to do a quick check first before posting something.

Problem: Most "new" users create fake accounts, rack up karma, sell the accounts. Rinse and repeat.

Solution: Call out those fuckers and break the rules because I come from the hood mother fucker and I don't take shit from bitches who don't play by the rules.

Actual Solution: Fuck it. I'll just delete my account and grow up. I'm sick of seeing the same stuff, so rather than change the community, which I obviously can't, I'll control what I can and just quit. Then I'll create a new account, repost my ass off and sell that account to the highest bidder.

With users like you it will be fucking simple.

Now while you do raise a good point about the fact that everyone should just stop complaining about it, I have to say that the 'problem' you bring up is complete bullshit. You think people would tart about on a website for meaningless points so they can sell the accounts? Karma is nothing more than a way to filter out shit content and good content.

But users like yourself, who seem to attribute some kind of real world value to karma, are the heart of why people repost old images.

You wanna change the community? Grow up.

PR firms will pay money for an account that gets to the frontage quickly. This is a fact. Feel free to pretend the homepage isn't paid for. Granted all posts are likely not purchased accounts, but enough are. I've already written a script that finds imgur links, saves the URL and title, then one month later will post the same to any account I want. I'm tempted to use it.

Reddit makes it too easy and too many people don't care. Why should I?

Do it then. In fact, we're civilised gentlemen, why don't we make it a social experiment? Test your script out for, say, 5 months then post the results for everyone to see. That would prove whether or not karma farming is as easy as you say. I'm not entirely sure what it would prove beyond that, but it would help you make a much stronger point.

Also, hell, everyone knows PR firms buy into reddit, but there are no 'front-page accounts', it all comes down to the votes on the content.

I started last night. I decided to turn it into an experiment where I'm going to grab all links from the front page that are imgur and then in 1 month I'll repost it, record the original up/down votes and my up/down votes. I'm going to keep everything practically the same. Then I'll make minor tweaks to see how that changes performance. I can't sell them regardless of money because I like the site too much, but I'm definitely interested in seeing how well it works.

The only major problem is testing the API. You can get stopped pretty easily with a "You are trying this too often. Please try again in 35 minutes".

I'll at least highlight this, if you don't have the time or patience.

Search for duplicates before posting. That said, sometimes bad timing, a bad title, or just plain bad luck can cause an interesting story to fail to get noticed. Feel free to post something again if you feel that the earlier posting didn't get the attention it deserved and you think you can do better.

Your example got 3 votes! On a subreddit with under 300 subscribers! That's ridiculously small. Pretty much no one saw it. Repost justified, 'bitch'!

Also this has been reposted dozens of times I think that I'm justified in calling this out as a repost as most of them have hit over 300 karma. That original comic was just the comic I had as a saved link, that's why it only had 3 upvotes. I am sick of seeing this post.

All of those are several years ago...

Are you perhaps accelerating through time at a faster than normal rate, causing you to perceive events several months apart as only being a day apart? That seems like something to see a doctor about.

Since the post has been upvoted like heck, clearly many people are enjoying it, probably because they've not seen it before, or possess the amazing ability to enjoy something again after a large period of time has passed.

Also so what if a post has been upvoted like heck, reposting is still reposting. Here's one that was submitted 2 months ago, Here's one from 6 months ago, and the last one 9. It really does pop up around every three months, check the dates on those links. Sure people are enjoying it, but how would you feel if you've had to see this comic time after time? Obviously anything that's reposted with alot of upvotes people will enjoy, but it's ruining this website by re churning the same stuff repeatedly. I don't know where in your right mind reposting is now a tolerable thing.
