So, by that logic, Fat guys should be blamed for everything, and given free things?

CAKE DAY?! WHY DIDN'T YOU SAY SO!
[–]MikeFromBC 13 points14 points15 points 6 months ago
False. A positive and a negative would cancel each other out.
[–]MegaSuperAwesome1214 48 points49 points50 points 6 months ago
Incorrect. Many Terrorists have demands that are filled, and are blamed for quite a lot. By reason of logic, fat guys are terrorists.
[–]MikeFromBC 40 points41 points42 points 6 months ago
I'm confused now, therefore you win.

[–]SomeGuyWithABoner 4 points5 points6 points 6 months ago
That's if they are added/subtracted. But what if they multiplied?
[–]Stratisphear 11 points12 points13 points 6 months ago
More negative.
Which is fairly accurate.
[–]jumalaw 0 points1 point2 points 6 months ago
A positive less than 1 multiplied by a negative is less of a negative.

2 Tits = +2
1 Penis = -1
2 Tits x 1 Penis = +2 x -1 = -2

[–]lynnangel 0 points1 point2 points 6 months ago
He said a positive less than one. 2 > 1 therefore you're mathematicianeding incorrectly. I am disappoint.
Yes. IF the positive is less than one. But I just demonstrated that the positives in question are not less than one, and therefore multiply to a negative less than -1.
Depends how big the boobs are.

Who wants to bet OP also thinks of himself as a 'nice guy'?
[–]bi-curiousgeorge 15 points16 points17 points 6 months ago*
I've got a story!
About five years ago, a female friend of mine and I (also a girl) befriended this guy who worked at a beauty store we frequented. He'd strike up conversation with both of us whenever we came in, eventually knew our AIM screenames and would chat with us on there, and after a while would often give her discounts and free stuff, me not so much. She was significantly skinnier than I was at the time, more conventionally pretty. She told me it made her uncomfortable and she often would refuse the free the stuff, since the gifts tended to get more expensive over time and she didn't want him to get in trouble. Also she had a boyfriend, and he knew that.
He'd also tell me over AIM about all the ridiculous I'm-putting-this-girl-on-a-pedastal fantasies he had about her (what going on a date would be like, what making out with her would be like), and one day he tells me that he got her a Nintendo DS with a custom decal job for her birthday, which was over a month away. That was too much. I said 'Look man, don't go spending all this money on her, she's got a boyfriend and she's not gonna date you'. He shrugged it off and swore that he knew that and that he was just getting her the DS as a friend, that he'd do that for any of his friends. I then told him that that very same day he was telling me all this, was in fact my birthday, and asked if I was getting one, too. Long story short, the answer was no. She ended up accepting the DS even though she tried to refuse it multiple times, he ended up mailing it to her or something. Then she graduated college, moved, and stopped going into the store. I then had to listen to him bitching about how ungrateful she was and how hurt he was until I finally gave up on reasoning with him and blocked him.
tl;dr: The type of guy who bitches about hot girls getting free stuff is the type of guy who buys hot girls free stuff expecting sex and gets butthurt when he doesn't.
edit for spelling
[–]cralledode 6 points7 points8 points 6 months ago
he thinks that women are sex vending machines where you feed in "nice" coins and sex comes out
from his perspective, her having a boyfriend was like the soda getting stuck on the dispenser, so he tried putting in more coins in the hopes that he'd get two sex.
[–]Dead_Rooster 2 points3 points4 points 6 months ago
I even found a picture of him.

[–]lizmccoot -12 points-11 points-10 points 6 months ago
As an owner of tits, I find this completely true.
Its bittersweet. I wish the world weren't that way, but its hard to get upset about free stuff.
[–]Highlighter_Freedom 2 points3 points4 points 6 months ago
What could explain this incongruity!?
[–]Baaabydoll 1 point2 points3 points 6 months ago
It's impossible to get upset about free stuff. I don't see an issue with accepting free things, I don't turn 'em down.
[–]lizmccoot 0 points1 point2 points 6 months ago
I don't turn down free things, either. But it is really blatantly unfair.
[–]omnishruk 154 points155 points156 points 6 months ago

Or...you know...A father who wants his kids but fears that sexism in the courts will take them away or a man who called the police hoping for protection but instead getting mocked for not being able to control a woman at best or thrown in jail at worst...
But sexism is only sexist if you're telling a woman she can't vote, right?
[–]DullHypothesis 8 points9 points10 points 6 months ago
See my comment above. My frustration with MRAs is they take legitimate causes for concern and make it about hating women. Believe me, your alienating any woman with the way you guys talk. Stop shooting yourself in the foot.
It's not the women fucking up family court, it's the system. Stop attacking the women and attack the system.
[–]SJ_Zero 3 points4 points5 points 6 months ago
If complaints about legitimate injustices in the legal system alienate, then let the alienation fly.
Personally, I'm a men's rights advocate and a feminist. Equality as an idea sort of forces you to want everyone to be treated equal, regardless of sex.
If that alienates someone, then that someone should take a long look in the mirror and ask what it really is tbey seek.
See, I can't see being an MRA and a feminist because a lot of MRA just spend a lot of time shitting on feminists and/or women. (From those I've talked to which is obvioiusly not every MRA ever so of course grain of salt and all that.) But yeah, the reason I agree with some MRA stuff is BECAUSE I'm a feminist, so I see where you're coming from.
[–]SJ_Zero 5 points6 points7 points 6 months ago
Some men's rights advocates shit on women giving the movement a really bad name, and some feminists shit on men giving the movement a really bad name.
Get away from the kooks, and you do find legitimate points on each side. I've lived through the two situations I mentioned, and they didn't make me hate women, they made me hate the police and courts who would treat someone unfairly.
I know it's strange seeing someone treating it like it's not adverserial...
[–]carelcapek 0 points1 point2 points 6 months ago
So you're calling this guy a liar? He's too polite so I'll say it for him you're a fucking asshole. Stop taking out your sexist attitudes against men on him. You're just like every other Internet feminist; full of hate and bullshit. Let the down votes come.
[–]SJ_Zero 2 points3 points4 points 6 months ago
To be fair, the loudest voices out there really want to frame this as an "us vs. them" battle. With all the viritol, it makes sense that the silent majority gets overlooked.
Chalk this one up to "just didn't know things could be like that." The tone certainly suggests that.
[–]DullHypothesis 2 points3 points4 points 6 months ago
Woah woah woah take a breath man. I dont' even know if that commentor is a dude. All I was saying is there are aspects to the MRA community that I would find difficult to reconcile with feminism, but I also find many other things that make MRA and feminism perfect allies. Just take a breath, man. I'm not calling anyone a liar.
Whatever. I'm not going to be calm I'm so sick of feminists attacking me and other men because of how some men act. I know plenty of girls who contradict the ideals of feminists and yet I don't have a negative view of women because of it. You attack MRA for being assholes but as a neutral party I see it just as much from feminists.
[–]Penis_VanderPoo 6 points7 points8 points 6 months ago
Poor white males. What a shitty life we have.
Hooray for racism and sexism!
[–]dakru -14 points-13 points-12 points 6 months ago
Or, you know, he's just a guy who sees that men aren't the evil PATRIARCHOVERLORDS that Feminists make them out to be, that men actually have problems and issues that aren't just minor counterparts to the "real problems" that are for women?
[–]sunshine3240 8 points9 points10 points 6 months ago
For fucks sake. Feminists, unless you count a few extremists, don't think that men are evil patriarchal overloads. Feminists fight a system, a goddamn motherfucking system, not half of humanity. Okay?
It'd be a fuck ton easier to help handle men's issues and problems if the certain male advocates didn't spread lies about feminism every fucking chance they get.
I'm sorry for the rant, I realize I'm probably overreacting to your comment, but goddammit if I'm not sick of the fucking lies.
My dad's a feminist because he sees the same shit MRAs complain about, and instead of attacking women, he attacks the system that sets genders against each other. I think all of you could learn something from this man.
MRAs are just militant feminists with cocks. Sorry, but you guys have more in common with each other than you do with me.
[–]DefinitelyRelephant -2 points-1 points0 points 6 months ago
This is how you know you have a just cause - the people opposing you can't think of any better way to fight you than to sling personal insults.
[–][deleted] 7 points8 points9 points 6 months ago
Check out what people have to say about NAMBLA. Just because you're being insulted doesn't mean that you're right or that you're wrong.
[–]DullHypothesis 5 points6 points7 points 6 months ago
If I had a dollar every time some MRA has called me a dyke I'd be a fucking millionaire. Don't get self-righteous.
Listen, I hear the legitimate complaints MRAs have. As the daughter of a stay-at-home dad, I should be the easiest woman for you people to convert. My dad would get fucked by the courts if my parents divorced. He was a fucking social worker for chrissakes, he knows this better than you do. He can't afford child support and he wouldn't get custody....
Aaaaaand he hates MRAs more than anyone in the world! More than any bra-burning uberbitch feminist. So I'm gonna side with the father of two committed co-parent with 15+ years experience in family court before a bunch of twats who jerk off their privileged white dicks in a circlejerk of women hating.
Honestly, this is 100% sincerity, MRAs do have legitimate points, but it's the woman-bashing and the privileged whining that makes people hate you. And it's not like no one else is raising these points, they're just not wrapping it in fancy "fuck those dumb bitches" wrapping paper.
Anyone who actually was educated on systems like family court wouldn't be complaining the way you guys do. You here one anecdote about some guy getting fucked and think you're an expert on gender politics.
I understand you're frustrated, because yeah, there is fucked up gender shit in this country. But you're not getting any converts by spending your time on a comment section attacking everyone. Seriously, go out, read the newspaper, do your research, and come back with an informed opinion instead of self-righteous indigination over the justness of a cause that your compatriots have shown to be built on a shaky misogynistic foundation.
And I reiterate, most of this comes from discussions I've had with my father. So don't go calling me some feminazi cunt, because I learned all this from a man who actually has the consequences of these shit family court laws looming over his head. And he somehow finds a way to be reasonable about it. You should try it.
don't go calling me some feminazi cunt
Scumbag Redditor:
Asks you not to insult them
Spends their entire post insulting you
[–]DullHypothesis 6 points7 points8 points 6 months ago*
I never said not to insult me, insult you all you want, but don't imply that these are the things I believe because I hate men. On the contrary, I believe these things because I think MRAs are right about some stuff, men should have more responsibility for childcare outside of footing the bill. I say these things because I love men just like I love all people and believe they should be treated fairly. I wasn't asking not to be insulted, I was asking that people not automatically assume my belief system based off of my gender.
Call me a cunt! I really don't care.
And man, I'm sorry but your response really disappointed me. I know people always say don't feed the trolls but it's frustrating because so many of the base issues MRAs talk about are actually really important, but they get ignored because of the way you guys present them. It's legitimate issues wrapped in ignorance, flaming rhetoric, and hate! I engage with MRAs in comments not because I want to come in an correct you, but because I just want to cut through the bullshit and maybe have an honest discussion about how the systems that treat us differently based on gender came to be, why they continue, and what we can do to change them. I was raised in a household with a male stay-at-home parent and I really care about these things, I should be your guy's best ally, but instead it's the same old shit. I mean, honestly, I write comments like above because I think sometimes maybe if I am equally as gruff you'd be more likely to listen? IDK, trying to maintain the level of discourse, like staying with the speed of traffic on the highway. But at the end of the day I have boobs and a vagina and I don't agree on you shitting on women, so I don't even get to be a part of the conversation that matters to me. Belive me, I love my dad, and I would do anything to change the system that takes children away from their fathers (and if you look at it conversely, puts the burden of childcare on women, which isnt' fair for either party!) but instead I get "women are dumb money grubbing whores." So, yeah, another disappointment from an MRA, I don't know why I continue to be so fucking surprised.
[–]DefinitelyRelephant 1 point2 points3 points 6 months ago
I was asking that people not automatically assume my belief system based off of my gender.
Where did I do that?
[–]DullHypothesis 1 point2 points3 points 6 months ago
Nah you didn't that's the point. I was saying don't read what I said and think that I'm disagreeing with you because I'm a woman, know that I am disagreeing with you because of the conversations I've had with my dad. It wasn't a reprimand it was an anticipatory warning. I put stuff like that in their because people are like OH WELL YOU JUST HATE MRAS BECAUSE YOU'RE A FEMINIST/WOMAN. And I'm like, well, naw, this all comes from talking to my pops, who has a dick, so maybe y'all be'd more likely to listen. (But no balls, which is actually kind of funny because people accuse him of having no balls because he was stay-at-home and he says "well the surgery wasn't until after the kids were grown so the timing doesn't work" har har very funny dad)
[–]DefinitelyRelephant 2 points3 points4 points 6 months ago
don't read what I said and think that I'm disagreeing with you because I'm a woman.
Wasn't planning on it. There are women who disagree with MRA, and women who agree with it. Their sex may influence the socialization they went through growing up, but beyond that most people are fully capable of forming their own opinions.
[–]DullHypothesis 2 points3 points4 points 6 months ago*
Tell that to your compatriots. I often times try to engage in conversations about this and people can be very dismissive. Spread the word to your buddies, it's not making y'all any friends.
Oh, and this is a point I just thought of so I hope you didn't read this before I updated. I think most women/feminists would agree with what MRAs put out there if it didn't have the sheen of lady-hating. Just like militant feminists get no where claiming all penetrative sex is rape (seriously I've heard that, I was like biiitch whaaaaat? Girl, you cray). I think MRA will get there, it's just unfortunate that the normal ones don't feel comfortable aligning with feminists (who've been fighting for these issues for a while now, like, my dad is a feminist BECAUSE he is involved with these issues) and the crazy lady hating ones are so vocal, and make it less about the issues and more about OH MAN AREN'T WOMEN INSANE, AMIRITE DUDERS?!
Eeeeh, I guess people are just people and we should treat them like people.
[–]Vonka 41 points42 points43 points 6 months ago
Where are all these other women getting all the free stuff and where's mine?
[–]HermyKermy 19 points20 points21 points 6 months ago
Yeah, I want free stuff for my boobs!
[–]StonedSamurai 5 points6 points7 points 6 months ago
Where are all these other men getting put in charge and where's my handout?
[–]klcna 40 points41 points42 points 6 months ago
I once had a group of guys asking me how nice it was to be a girl and get given cars and other shit for free. I just stared at them for a bit and then said "Where do think we live?". Cause honestly, I don't know where this happens, but it's not anywhere I've been.
[–]Look_Who_Shows_Up 3 points4 points5 points 6 months ago
"Where do think we live?" she said. That's when we knew we didn't need to give her any more free drinks.
[–]klcna 0 points1 point2 points 6 months ago
Haha, sorry about that, I was slightly high on cold medications while typing this.
[–]ElephantTeeth 26 points27 points28 points 6 months ago
So, is it shame on women for supposedly taking the free stuff, or shame on the men who are supposedly giving the stuff to them?
[–]thatgamerguy 19 points20 points21 points 6 months ago
Absolutely shame on the men who give them free stuff (iff they expect sex for free stuff). It's perfectly rational for a person to take any free gift they are offered, tits or no.
[–]dugenstyle 12 points13 points14 points 6 months ago

[–]Roflpumpkin 70 points71 points72 points 6 months ago
I have a penis. I can sleep with everyone and never called a slut.
[–]dakru 17 points18 points19 points 6 months ago
A woman who doesn't have much sex (or with many people) is strong, pure and desirable; a man who doesn't is weak, pathetic and undesirable ("eww virgin neckbeard!").
[–]stareattheart 6 points7 points8 points 6 months ago
But I like lots of sex!
(Girl here.)
[–]dakru 8 points9 points10 points 6 months ago
Ideally we get rid of all of these toxic ideas about sex that have different expectations for each gender.
[–]Roflpumpkin 2 points3 points4 points 6 months ago
If I were given the option to either have sex stigmatized or not having sex stigmatized I know what I would pick.
[–]dakru 5 points6 points7 points 6 months ago
The catch is that the one with sex stigmatized can get it really easily, and the one without sex stigmatized can't.
They're both based around the toxic idea of sex that has men as the seducers and women as the ones who reject or accept the men as worthy or unworthy for them; when women "let" too many have sex with her, she's seen as a failure, and when men can't "get" enough women to have sex with him, he's seen as a failure.
[–]omniphage 7 points8 points9 points 6 months ago
"The answer that gets me more sex."
[–]Ch1psahoy -2 points-1 points0 points 6 months ago
Agreed. Also, a guy who has sex all the time? Handsome, rich, knows how to work the ladies, follows the right fashion, has some sort of status symbol that attracts ladies. Girl who has sex all the time? Has to say "yes"
[–][deleted] 27 points28 points29 points 6 months ago
I can sleep with everyone
man cannot sleep with everyone
a mildly attractive women on the other hand can sleep with almost anyone at the price of being called a slut
[–]Roflpumpkin 23 points24 points25 points 6 months ago
It isn't that hard to get laid. And being a guy removes any negative stigma attached to having sex. That is awesome and I wouldn't trade that deal for the ability to be hounded for sex and then shamed for enjoying it.
[–]i3rent 2 points3 points4 points 6 months ago
It isn't that hard to get laid.
Go on...
[–]Roflpumpkin 0 points1 point2 points 6 months ago
Find a girl who likes the things you like. Ask her out on a date. When you both feel comfortable knock boots.
[–]stacyhatesmacys 27 points28 points29 points 6 months ago
a woman can sleep with a lot of people and never be called a slut. she will only be called a slut if she sleeps with a lot of people who all know each other.
[–]slimmtl 9 points10 points11 points 6 months ago
You're allowed to do anything, you're just not allowed to get caught
[–]Highlighter_Freedom 18 points19 points20 points 6 months ago
That's not a fair distinction though. You're basically just saying "A woman who sleeps with a lot of people will only face harassment if people find out about it." Which is technically true, but hardly the point.
[–]stacyhatesmacys 3 points4 points5 points 6 months ago
i'm saying that a single woman can date, and sleep with, a variety of men without compromising her respectability. a woman who hangs out with a limited group of people (could be a large group, say a fraternity) and sleeps with a lot of guys in that group might have a harder time.
[–]bi-curiousgeorge 1 point2 points3 points 6 months ago*
Thank you. And I have multiple times seen men who sleep around a social circle (friends, workplace) get called a manwhore. Kinky, sexually active people of both genders can easily escape slut-shaming if they keep their shit on the downlow. One of my best friends has had sex with over a hundred different people, but is now settled down and married and no one who isn't a close trusted friend knows about it, which is how it should be.
edit: For the record I'm not agreeing that people who sleep around in small circles deserve to be called a slut, but that's how that shit gets talked about in the first place.
[–]stareattheart 5 points6 points7 points 6 months ago
And a mildly attractive man can sleep with a slew of women.
Except, GASP, most of them will be really ugly.
And that's how it works for women as well.
[–]Pomguo 1 point2 points3 points 6 months ago
Wow, someone who gets it?
[–]OwDaditHurts 1 point2 points3 points 6 months ago
Frighteningly true.
[–]TheBrokenWorld 8 points9 points10 points 6 months ago
But you can only actually accomplish this if you are a good looking male.
[–]SirHodownAssClownIII 11 points12 points13 points 6 months ago
Or have a lot of money.
[–]OwDaditHurts 5 points6 points7 points 6 months ago
Even then it's pretty difficult.
[–]Roflpumpkin 3 points4 points5 points 6 months ago
You don't have to be a male model. There are plenty of cute girls out there who aren't models and would be more than happy to date someone who isn't a supermodel.
[–]TheBrokenWorld 4 points5 points6 points 6 months ago
I think we were talking more along the lines of casual sex.
Men can have casual sex without it being stigmatized.
[–]TheBrokenWorld 1 point2 points3 points 6 months ago
Now we're back to my other comment. It's extremely difficult for a man to have casual sex unless he's good looking. Women, even if they don't have good looks, can get laid just about anytime they want.
see it really isn't
[–]TheBrokenWorld 0 points1 point2 points 6 months ago
Isn't what?
hard to get laid
[–]anubus72 0 points1 point2 points 6 months ago
you're right, it only takes about 20 bucks
[–]Stratisphear 3 points4 points5 points 6 months ago
And even then you get called a "pig", "asshole", etc.
[–]Great_Zarquon 7 points8 points9 points 6 months ago*
Too bad that if you don't sleep with a lot of people you lose all social credibility.
Blanket statements can work both ways.
EDIT: Corrected word.
just to get this out of the way you mean "lose" not "loose." If you had to choose whether to have sex stigmatized or not having sex stigmatized which would you pick.
[–]Great_Zarquon 0 points1 point2 points 6 months ago
(Thanks for the correction.)
I think it's a stigmatization either way; I just wanted to point out that while it can be said that women are seen negatively by having too much sex, it can equally be said that men are seen negatively by not having enough sex.

[–]evilpenguin234 102 points103 points104 points 6 months ago
This is such bullshit. Why should a woman get 80 cents for the work I do and I only get 20? ಠ_ಠ
[–]creepyeyes 0 points1 point2 points 6 months ago
Alimony :D
[–]OhHaiUGaiz 22 points23 points24 points 6 months ago
80 cents for every dollar not per job but per American workers, theres so much that isn't accounted for and people spout off this myth like its a fact. Do some homework, little girl or guilty little boy.
[–]back2thafuture 34 points35 points36 points 6 months ago
They've done some studies with just particular jobs, too. It's really not a total myth, as often as I hear the "but men are policemen and firemen while women are secretaries" argument on reddit.
[–]poompt 23 points24 points25 points 6 months ago
Yep, policemen and firemen really rake in the big bucks.
[–]back2thafuture 4 points5 points6 points 6 months ago
I know it doesn't make sense, but that's the exact argument that I saw when I looked around /r/mensrights.
[–]bobandgeorge 3 points4 points5 points 6 months ago
Study found on mensrights
[–]back2thafuture 1 point2 points3 points 6 months ago
I'm glad that's what's on men's rights. While I don't agree with its existence, if it's going to be around, that's the sort of information that there should be as opposed to some of what I've seen. I think there's a lot of conflicting data on the subject, but I'm not prepared to call it a complete myth because of one study.
[–]bobandgeorge 7 points8 points9 points 6 months ago
Unless we're comparing men and women doing the same job and getting paid differently the study is kind of garbage. You can't compare two different occupations and say that the only reason one is paid less is because of gender.
It's the same as saying Christians make $.75 for every dollar Jews make. I mean, that IS true but that's just a coincidence.
[–]JustinFromMontebello 5 points6 points7 points 6 months ago
You don't agree with its existence? Really?
[–]matt_512 3 points4 points5 points 6 months ago
Other studies have come up with different results.
[–]back2thafuture 2 points3 points4 points 6 months ago
I agree that it is inconclusive, but I've found much more that seems to suggest that women make less, here's an article about women in TV production.
[–]matt_512 6 points7 points8 points 6 months ago
Women make less than men, I agree 100% on that. However, the cause of much of the pay gap--possibly even all of it--isn't employers who pay women less for the same work, it's women who make different choices than men, for reasons that are often attributable to sexism.
[–]back2thafuture 7 points8 points9 points 6 months ago
I agree with that for the most part, but I think that there are some jobs that will pay women less for equal work. Here is an article about Female CFOs. Granted, there aren't many (as you said, for reasons that are probably attributed to sexism), but those that there are are paid considerably less on average.
[–]matt_512 1 point2 points3 points 6 months ago
Attributable to things such as women bargaining less aggressively. As I said, I don't think we're really disagreeing on anything. I should have been clearer on that before, though.
[–]back2thafuture 3 points4 points5 points 6 months ago
Well, I think you believe unequal pay for equal work is a myth, while I believe it exists (though maybe not 80 cents to the dollar), though for the most part we are on the same page.
Aren't rational discussions fun?
[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 6 months ago
There is a great youtube vid by an economist prof, he goes over this. Basically women have kids n stuff and this takes away time they could be using to scale the corporate ladder. Men are willing to give up family time (or even not have family's completely) to get further along and rake in the money. Also women trend towards non STEM degrees and this is a factor too, but one that is slowly changing.
[–]matt_512 0 points1 point2 points 6 months ago
I'd like to see it change faster for sure.
I've seen several videos myself on youtube, so I could have seen the one that you talk about.
[–]Athaliana 1 point2 points3 points 6 months ago
The US census disagrees with you.
Link? Also, that study was commissioned by the Dept. of Labor.
[–]Athaliana 9 points10 points11 points 6 months ago
http://www.census.gov/prod/2004pubs/censr-15.pdf
quote from page seven: "When we account for difference between male and female work patterns as well as other key factors, women earned, on average, 80 percent of what men earned in 2000....Even after accounting for key factors that affect earnings, our model could not explain all of the differences in earnings between men and women."
This is followed by many histograms, charts and graphs showing distribution of female workers and their earnings.
Page 12 shows a table which controls for occupation (surgeon, dentists, actuaries, etc) for the highest paid positions. Women make significantly less than men in these fields (example: Female dentists only make 68k/year, whereas their male counterparts make 110k). The lowest male income on the chart of twenty fields is still more than the third highest female income.
Among the lowest paid professions, the gap is smaller (14k vs 12k, etc, mostly because it's illegal to pay women under minimum wage, and in general salaries for those professions are fixed [janitors, food service, etc]) but still existent.
page 15 separates workers based on education, and still finds that women with same education level as their male counterparts make around 70-80% of what men make.
Thank you for linking. I'll bookmark and read the study when I have time.
there's no reason to read the entire thing, though it is interesting when you get around to it. Luckily it's mostly data.
[–]Saganomics 2 points3 points4 points 6 months ago
Careful, you're playing a dangerous game, friend. Don't let the Men's Rights hate group hear you say that women are a disadvantaged class in our society, or they'll bury you under a mound of poorly conducted and/or debunked studies, very angry anecdotes, and misogynistic blog posts about spermjacking.

Careful, you're playing a dangerous game, friend. Don't let the feminist hate group hear you say that women are a disadvantaged class in our society, or they'll bury you under a mound of poorly conducted and/or debunked studies, very angry anecdotes, and call anyone who disagrees a misogynist.

[–]Saganomics -7 points-6 points-5 points 6 months ago
Your movement is a joke that should be flushed with the other movements that resemble it.
[–]matt_512 5 points6 points7 points 6 months ago
The fact that bringing attention to injustices faced by men is viewed as a joke is all the reason that I need to be a part of it.
[–]Saganomics 3 points4 points5 points 6 months ago
The joke is that the men's rights activists think they're fighting against injustice, when all they're doing is perpetuating it. The Men's Rights hate group fights to protect the privilege of straight, white, cissexual middle- and upper-class men.
There are injustices that men face, but feminists are fighting against the cause of those very injustices while the MRM focuses on their bitterness towards women and fear-mongering about false rape accusations.
If by "fighting against the cause of those very injustices" you mean "blaming everything that happens on men" then yes, you're correct.
Go to r/feminism or r/feminisms or any of the related subreddits. Post about something that is about injustices faced by men. Watch how fast it gets lost.
[–]Athaliana 5 points6 points7 points 6 months ago
I've never met a single feminist that blames everything that happens on men. A lot of gender injustice is perpetuated unknowingly by women as well as men and is deeply ingrained in society.
[–]arise_therefore 1 point2 points3 points 6 months ago
Watch how fast it gets lost.
Yes, people do tend to downvote totally off-topic posts. Posting about the MRM on /r/feminisms is akin to a "Hi /r/politics, look at my new puppy I rescued!" post.
[–]bobandgeorge 0 points1 point2 points 6 months ago
What's the cause of women being awarded custody far more often than men? What's the cause of women being forced to pay child support far less often than men when he is awarded custody? How is that not injustice?
the MRM focuses on their bitterness towards women and fear-mongering about false rape accusations.
Oh stop. I could cherry pick a few batshit out there "feminists" that want to see men castrated and say the feminist movement is a hate group too. That doesn't make it so.
[–]retsukoi 9 points10 points11 points 6 months ago
Hmmm, last time I checked if you only took into mind similar jobs at similar years at the position being hired from similar degrees, its closer to 98.something cents to every male dollar.

[–]RachnusRageous 2 points3 points4 points 6 months ago
Hush, you. Take your sense and your penis elsewhere.
[–]armstad -8 points-7 points-6 points 6 months ago
Enough with the fucking 70 cents and 80 cents bullshit. This is a FUCKING MYTH! It came about because women usually enter lower paying careers in general, like teaching, nursing, etc. There aren't many women CEOs, surgeons, lawyers. The would make the same in the same field
[–]SetToGeek 20 points21 points22 points 6 months ago
This is part of it, but it isn't just that. A bigger part is that women tend to leave work earlier--just as their pay gets large--and of those who do stay, many take a year or two off during childbirth where they miss promotions and pay increases.
The "women make 80 cents to the dollar" is a very awful quote, it suggest employers just pay women less because they are somehow sexist, when in actuality it is entirely decisions by the women that ends up making it so that women making less.
it is not decisions by women that make them be paid less. At least not measurable decisions. When you control for work field, marital status, number of children, work experience, and academic level men still make more than women do. (Source: US census: http://www.census.gov/prod/2004pubs/censr-15.pdf) There is a possibility that women are less likely to demand a raise, or are less likely to move locations to get a better job (better salary)
[–]SetToGeek 0 points1 point2 points 6 months ago*
Instead of judging by age or true work experience, they put them together and use a combined statistic of age and number of children. Having a child obviously has different implications on work for women and men in the US. I also does not tell you ANYWHERE the ratio of female-to-male wages after accounting for the variables, which is truly awful for a statistical paper with that conclusion--for all the reader knows the ratio is .99 after weighting. It gives you the ratio of 90th to 10th percentile but you can't compare that without know how much the 10th percentile of a given group makes.
That said it is a much better source then no source. I'll have a look around for another one later.
Edit: After looking around a while I can say the waters have become a lot more murky then last time I looked up this topic. I'm actually thinking the data points the other way now--while some of the gap is explained by the things I talked about before, it seems between 5-15 percent is unexplained meaning a combination of discrimination and difficult to collect data (aggressiveness is asking for more pay at signing or promotions, how much "part-time work" women do in the house on average over men, etc.). Still, the whole thing ends up feeling like the statistics on penis length--huge problems in 99% of the data collected and means of analyzing data hiding the 1%--in this case there are so many possible variables that are not discrimination that I doubt any paper right now adequately controls for them to get even a decent look at what the true effect of discrimination is.
If you go back to the census link I gave you, they cite multiple high quality papers you can read.
[–]SetToGeek 0 points1 point2 points 6 months ago
Other then data sets, the only two I see cited are a textbook and “Women’s Earnings: Work Patterns Partially Explain Difference Between Men’s and Women’s Earnings". I only checked the appendices and footnotes though (but any citations should be in there or a bibliography/works cited section of which there is none).
[–]DefinitelyRelephant 0 points1 point2 points 6 months ago
And anyway, it's been illegal in the United States for decades to pay someone less money because of their sex. It's called discrimination.
[–]Athaliana 0 points1 point2 points 6 months ago
it's extremely difficult to prove that you are being paid less because you are female. The only way to do so would be to find a male under the same employer with identical work history, academic history, experience, skills, etc. and then know that they are being paid more than you are.
it's not a myth. The US census divides by job type (CEO, lawyer, surgeon, etc) and when controlling for marital status, age, years of experience, and number of children there is still a very significant gap in income between men and women. The actual amount of the gap differs between fields, but seems to increase in stereotypical "male" fields (engineering, surgical, programmers) to around 20 cents/dollar.
[–]Ch1psahoy 0 points1 point2 points 6 months ago
Because research on the pay-gap is too hard, so we'll just accept what the media tells us.

Or when they tell her to cover her ears or put on earmuffs when they want to make sexist jokes.
