                      Well, my issue is people usually find people who are giving away their rats on craigslist or the like and people say, "Oh yeah, I'll totally take them off your hands! I love rats!". And what they MEAN to say is their snake/lizard/turtle loves rats.

                      My mom tried to get me to get rid of my rats once since she didn't like them and the person I was going to eventually give them to was a friend of my brothers who told him whilst drunk that he does this all time to feed his pet snake.

                      Needless to say I told my Mom it wasn't happening anymore and kept them til they died. I loved those little guys.

                      I know people have snakes and they need to eat so I don't blame them, but people, don't take someones pet and feed it to another one. That's fucked up.

                            This image bothers me even though I can laugh at most of spacedick's pictures and video. See, the difference is, most posts simply show the end result of something fatal. This is showing a living creature, dying. Dying in a scary painful way. Struggling to survive, even though if it escaped, it would certainly die anyway. So a living being suffering, scared and dying in a world that frankly doesn't give a shit. That, is why this post bothers me. Plus, mice are awesome.

                            Most likely alive. There aren't any vital organs in the lower half of a mouse, so they can survive a while without their lower halves, almost indefinitely assuming they don't bleed to death, or the turtle doesn't come back for seconds.

                              Exactly! That half-eaten mouse struggling to get out of water is what I actually found disturbing. Or maybe not disturbing, but I felt sad... Believe me, I've seen most of the disturbing stuff on reddit and never hesitate to click a NSFW/NSFL link since it's mostly something interesting (ie. The "don't mess with mexican drug cartels" one). But that poor mouse got to me somehow...hell I laughed at the post with the dead mouse with the Deadmau5 sign on top of him. At least he wasn't slashed in two and swimming for his life with half his guts hanging out.

                                                  People shoot video of snakes doing the same thing, and the response is normal "Hmm, that's kinda cool." Why? Because all they see is a snake swallowing the mouse whole and there isn't gore. The main reason people are upset is because they are watching the exact moment the mouse dies. It's why people feel comfortable laying out mousetraps or having cats that kill mice, they don't normally watch as the mouse is taking its final breaths (figuratively speaking in this case)

                                                  I don't have that much of a problem with it. The turtle has to eat and it does so in an interesting, albeit very gruesome, way. I would never have this type of turtle as a pet though, as it might just as likely as not use those razor sharp claws and iron jaws on me, which is something I'd rather avoid.

                                                  Thats because most people are raised in a cardboard box and think their pets food should come out of a bag or a can. People like myself, know that such food is not only bad for people, but even worse for our pets. My turtle eats live rats, mice, hamsters, birds, fish.. My dog eats live young rats, & rips apart their raw meat chunk (1/4 chicken, whole fish, etc) for their meals. Its ok for a wolf to eat a chicken, but not a dog apparently <_< Some people make me QQ as they think food from the grocery store is best, or thats "where" it comes from.

                                                  Why would you feed a live rat to your dog? Not only is it completely unfair to the rat, your dog could be seriously injured by them. Rats are very intelligent, and the fact that you can buy them already (humanely) killed and choose not to is disturbing. I'm all for the prey model diet if the person knows what they're doing, but feeding live animals is completely unnecessary and inhumane, for the dog, turtle and the animals being fed to them.

                                                        There's a link to the video for this gif somewhere on this thread. I think the main problem is that the first half of the video shows pet mice running around and looking adorable. Then the back half of the video shows mice (presumably feeder mice) getting ripped in half.

                                                        The juxtaposition of it is quite disturbing, in my opinion. Maybe it's because I am a mouse.
