Meh. If somebody don't get their arm cracked, it wasn't a full day.

Holy Crap: Mom is filming this insanity.

Heh, kids. Sister almost dies. "MY TURN!"

[–]TheFluxIsThis 35 points36 points ago

3 girls...that man is going to have a shit time in about 10 years.

[–]Conflction 18 points19 points ago

I hope thats not the case. I only wanna have girls

[–]TheFluxIsThis 19 points20 points ago

The general rule is that boys are nightmarish until about age 12, whereas girls become nightmarish at about 12 and continue to be that way until adulthood.

Also, this man, he will never know the joy of leaving the seat up ever again.

[–]turbie 36 points37 points ago

My daughter was seriously possessed by the devil right after her 13th birthday.

[–]Owyheemud 9 points10 points ago

From my own personal experience with daughters, the 'common sense' gene doesn't kick in until they're about 24 years old.

[–]1541drive -2 points-1 points ago

From my experience, men never get there

[–]Owyheemud 0 points1 point ago

Some of us do, eventually.

[–]hulkman 1 point2 points ago

not all girls are like that. my sister was always well behaved and never gave my parents any trouble. Me, on the other hand, am the royal fuck up of our family. they call me King Fuck Up. because i'm royal, you see.

[–]liamo725 1 point2 points ago

indeed, I do see

[–]TheFluxIsThis 1 point2 points ago

There are always exceptions to the rule, obviously.

[–]econymous 2 points3 points ago

Implying women are normal when adults

[–]chardrak 7 points8 points ago

Well it's more that they aren't anyone else's responsibility by then.

[–]Aiskhulos 0 points1 point ago

Implying that men are normal.

[–]tr4mpldundrfoot 8 points9 points ago

Yay me too... My daughter is 1 1/2 right now and I hope any future kids are girls as well. It's funny because I never wanted kids let alone girls, but she's so much fun and I can actually say I'm the best man in a girls life now.

[–]webdevbrian 4 points5 points ago

I have three sisters, my dad did just fine. Lived by one phrase he keeps telling me to this day "Harness the energy" (a.k.a don't get pissed off, and calm the fuck down).

[–]BenAfleckIsAnOkActor 4 points5 points ago

She seems olay.

[–]cryingblackman 2 points3 points ago

The guy's face is so priceless when she almost falls off the bed.

[–]congressmanjwt 243 points244 points ago

I love how it cuts off before we know she is olay

[–]congressmanjwt 151 points152 points ago

Autocorrect is a bitch.

[–]thescrapplekid 211 points212 points ago

OLE!

[–]Drsuppository 83 points84 points ago

Oil of okay.

[–]Killbunny90210 8 points9 points ago

He was obviously talking about shampoo.

[–]k3ithk 9 points10 points ago

I doubt it's autocorrect and more likely a typo since the 'l' is right next to the 'k.'

[–][deleted] 11 points12 points ago

Swype does some strange things sometimes

[–]fairwayks 5 points6 points ago

I love how it cuts off before we know she is o;ay.

[–]MindlessDream 1 point2 points ago

Wow, didn't even notice

[–]strongestdad 0 points1 point ago

how often do you text the word olay? seems fishy

[–]carbonizedmacintosh 18 points19 points ago

Kids are made of bendy; of course she is olay.

[–]PlasmaNuke 30 points31 points ago

I know, but I dove this gif anyway.

[–]spacecatprincess 10 points11 points ago

Love the skin you're in.

[–]Karl_Marx_ 14 points15 points ago

OLE, OLE OLE OLE, OOOOOLE, OLE.

[–]alexgbelov 5 points6 points ago

No, you can see that she fell on the edge of the bed.

[–]onlythis 5 points6 points ago

She died in the hospital 3 days later.

[–]garthnet 0 points1 point ago

[–]herp_derpenstein 46 points47 points ago

I like how can pinpoint the exact moment where he realizes this was not such a good idea.

[–]Havegooda 16 points17 points ago

I think you accidentally a word.

[–]poptart2nd 2 points3 points ago

no, just single letter.

[–]nefastus 1 point2 points ago

Full vid in the top comments, nobody got hurt.

[–]fairwayks -3 points-2 points ago

Coulda'. Lucky his kid didn't break her neck. Woulda' been a major buzz kill, not to mention his removal from the "Father of the Year" nomination.

[–]makanguru 50 points51 points ago

What could go wrong?

[–]CharsKimble 57 points58 points ago

Given the amount of stuffed animals she has to land on. Nothing. Nothing but good times.

[–]aelzeiny 19 points20 points ago*

Children are great for rag-doll physics experiments. My cousin is constantly applauded by the fact that I have no problem throwing my sister 10 meters across the room without hesitation; this is then followed immediately by jealousy.

[–]2lame4aname 34 points35 points ago

appalled?

[–][deleted] ago

[deleted]

[–]SpOoKy_EdGaR 5 points6 points ago

No, constantly applauded by the fact that he has NO problem with it. So it's constant, all the time, since the state of something fuels his applause.

[–]gistak 1 point2 points ago

Why would OP's cousin be applauded for the OP having no problem?

[–]poptart2nd 1 point2 points ago

Children are great for rag-doll physics experiments.

I have no problem throwing my sister 10 meters across the room

how old are you that you have a sister that A) is considered a child and B) that you can throw said child?

[–]MonsterIt 0 points1 point ago

death?

[–]skyman747 9 points10 points ago

The kid is happy, and she's at the age where they are made of rubber and don't suffer injuries. Don't see the issue tbh.

[–]chardrak 1 point2 points ago

Exactly. you can literally bounce them off of walls at that age with no lasting negative effects.

[–]TheBravetoaster 16 points17 points ago

Someone needs to reverse this.....

[–]poptart2nd 1 point2 points ago

better, but still loads as fast as if a hamster is powering their server.

[–][deleted] 25 points26 points ago

If I remember correctly, the youtube video of this caused a big stir. Yes, the daughter was perfectly fine, but people made a huge deal about it, and I think I recall CNN saying that it was dangerous, stupid, and possibly child abuse.

[–]d4nny 27 points28 points ago

abuse? Really?

[–]Kage7 52 points53 points ago

Bullshit that is 'child abuse'.

[–]clemts 40 points41 points ago

If that's child abuse then I wish I would've been abused.

[–]Akakaburito 22 points23 points ago

My body is ready! Abuse away!

[–]m2c 15 points16 points ago

::jumps on inflatable mattress::

[–]formerteenager 10 points11 points ago

calls child protective services

[–]fairwayks 0 points1 point ago

It's not too late....there's always self-abuse.

[–]CountDunkula 1 point2 points ago

Agreed. Child abuse my ass, more like giving your kid an actual childhood. Kids are durable, and stuff like that is fun as hell.

[–]Hypersapien 5 points6 points ago

That's probably why comments are disabled now.

[–]fathomgreen 5 points6 points ago

My older brothers did this with me and my cousins all the time when we were young, but we were hardcore about it.

For safety's sake do this outside in a large field. Forget the air mattress and go find some old waterbed mattresses. Fill them with air instead. Those things can launch you way farther and won't pop if you really give it. The more air, the safer they are . . . of course, that also means, let some air out if you want to fly farther.

If that's not dangerous enough for you, throw in a trampoline and you can really try to get yourself killed . . . ah, the wonders of childhood ;)

[–]fandom 1 point2 points ago

i'm frightened just reading this.

(trampolines sort of frighten me due to an accident a while back)

[–]Tw1tchy3y3 1 point2 points ago

I remember one of my favorite past times was terrifying my friends because I would jump on the trampoline until I couldn't get any higher, and then just jump of the edge and land on the ground.

[–]kickulus 2 points3 points ago

omg what I would give to have this happen to me

[–]b3spoke 6 points7 points ago

Maybe not Dad of the year, but I laughed, and that makes it OK.

[–]pushkill 0 points1 point ago

To add to your legitimization, the dad appears to realize that he made a mistake right afterwards, so he probably isn't a complete idiot.

[–]fairwayks -5 points-4 points ago

That logic won't work if he is ever aiming a loaded handgun at his kid.

[–]pushkill 3 points4 points ago

But he isn't, he is jumping on an air mattress.

[–]Lt_Dipshit 4 points5 points ago

Why does "having fun with your kids" mean "dad of the year" material?

Isn't that sort of expected from being a dad.

[–]tangopopper 14 points15 points ago

I'm guessing you're the kind of person who's disgusted by the fact that there exists more than one "World's best dad" mug.

[–]IHopeTheyDied 8 points9 points ago

HOW THE FUCK ARE WE SUPPOSED TO STANDARDIZE IT IF THERE'S MORE THAN ONE

[–]gistak 1 point2 points ago

I think it was sarcasm, since it looked as though the kid was lucky not to be hurt and the dad and mom realized that immediately.

[–]njloof 2 points3 points ago

Who is OP?

[–]funny-chubby-awesome 0 points1 point ago*

He worked for you the whole* time!

[–]njloof 1 point2 points ago

ATLAS SHRUGGED... directed by M. Night Shyamalan

[–]I_call_it_dookie 8 points9 points ago

Anybody who thinks this is a bad idea is a fucking moron. I will discuss in a cordial manner if you disagree, but there's no way in hell I'll change my opinion.

[–]fairwayks 1 point2 points ago

"You're a fucking moron for thinking this is a bad idea." Signed, Mr. Cordial

[–]I_call_it_dookie 0 points1 point ago

I didn't say the original comment was cordial, just that the following would be. Though I lost that game a second ago anyways so you got me.

[–]tangopopper 5 points6 points ago

She could have easily hit her head on the bookshelf or windowsill. Cordial me up Bitch.

[–][deleted] 10 points11 points ago

She could have easily hit her head on the bookshelf or windowsill. Cordial me up Bitch.

but she didn't. Boom... lawyered.

[–]gistak 2 points3 points ago

I don't even think this was the worst thing ever, but your logic hurts me.

[–]I_call_it_dookie 8 points9 points ago

Millions of things can go wrong doing less dangerous things than that. She could fall down the stairs and break her neck, get slammed by a car on the way to school, I could go on but it's already morbid.

The odds of what they did going wrong are small...people tend to forget how tough humans are. Even if she did somehow hit her head it wouldn't have been nearly hard enough to do much more than a bruise and make her cry, and I'm sure her dad would've comforted her during the minute or so that it hurt.

Rather than thinking about worst case scenarios he was having spontaneous fun with his daughter and it looked like they both were having a blast, helping forge a meaningful relationship. YOU ASSHOLE.

Sorry I guess the last part wasn't cordial, just forget you read it.

[–]gistak 6 points7 points ago

The other things you mentioned are things that she needs to do to live an ordinary life.

There are tons of ways to have fun with kids that are less likely to get them hurt, and in this case (watching the full video), both parents obviously decided that they'd better not do it again.

My guess is that they'll still play this game, but he'll land a little less forcefully, which makes sense to me.

You should absolutely throw your kids around, and allow them to take some risks. But when the penalty for failure is high (and breaking your kid is pretty damn high), then small risks are still worth weighing carefully.

In this case, I agree that it's not much of a risk, but you don't have to be a fucking moron to question whether it's the best call.

Lastly, when you're a parent, and the kid gets hurt specifically because of a decision that you made, it hurts you pretty badly too. My daughter barely remembers the worst thing that happened to her, but it's horrible for me to think about it.

[–]I_call_it_dookie 1 point2 points ago

You're not even disagreeing with me there. I didn't say keep doing it, although to be honest I would have absolutely no problem if they did. But they didn't know she would go that high, they were just having some fun. My disagreement is with those who say the dad shouldn't have ever taken the oh so horrifying risk of bouncing his daughter on a bed while they're goofing off in the first place.

After seeing how high she went I can understand if he wouldnt want to do it again though. Hopefully that was cordial still, I think at some point it might have come off as dickish, so please accept my apologies if that's the case.

[–]gistak 0 points1 point ago

It was cordial and not dickish. I guess if you understand why they wouldn't want to do it again, then you're not saying what I thought you were.

[–]heptakaideka 0 points1 point ago

The other things you mentioned are things that she needs to do to live an ordinary life.

Children need to have a fun time rough-housing with dad to live an ordinary life; from reading the rest of your comment, I think we are all in agreement here... so yeah. Moving on...

[–]gistak -1 points0 points ago

Rough-housing doesn't have to be out of control. If you saw the look on this dad's face, then you know that this didn't go the way he expected.

[–]doctorcrass -3 points-2 points ago

a kid playing baseball is a pretty huge risk. better keep them home and let them watch MTV all day.

[–]gistak 2 points3 points ago

Yeah, that's exactly what I was saying. You've understood my point perfectly.

Hey check it out, it turns out that sarcasm is a shitty way to have a conversation.

[–]poptart2nd 0 points1 point ago

so your initial argument is that because more harmful things can happen, what he did wasn't dangerous? using that logic, throwing knives at your daughter is the only dangerous thing you can do.

[–]I_call_it_dookie 0 points1 point ago

There's a pretty fucking big disconnect between throwing a goddamned knife at your daughter and bouncing her on a bed. It's late so my previous statement of being cordial isn't going to apply right now.

If you noticed the examples I gave they were things that you have to do no matter what. If you grow up with a father who's such a huge pussy he won't even rough house with you a bit on a damn bed then you're probably going to grow up to be one of those people who's scared to take risks of any sorts because you might get raped or something.

Shit I could write a manifesto right now about how disgusted I am with anybody who thinks what that dad, who is probably a great parent, did is bad.

[–]tangopopper -4 points-3 points ago

The odds of what they did going wrong weren't very small. If she had landed face-first on the bookshelf or windowsill, as she wasn't far from doing, then she would likely have broken her nose or lost teeth. That isn't worth the risk.

[–]chardrak 2 points3 points ago

Small children are bulletproof. It's worth all of the risk. Danger is part of the fun.

[–]I_call_it_dookie 1 point2 points ago

Well I tend to disagree with that, but unless somebody offers us a child to test our differing hypothesis we'll never know for sure. I did far more dangerous things as a kid, that's how you learn boundaries. The people who were so sheltered and never tried anything sketchy, which again I maintain bouncing a girl on a bed is not, are the ones who freak out about the most minute and mundane things as adults in my experience.

All I see when I watch that video is a daughter and father who love each other having fun. Id argue that being an overly stoic guy who never opens up to true joy with their children is far more damaging to both parties in the long run than the off chance off perhaps knocking out a baby tooth.

Even if your worst fears had come to fruition they would've been closer because of that. No child will hold a grudge against their father for trying to have fun with one another.

STILL PRETTY FUCKING CORDIAL SHIT YEA

[–]tangopopper 0 points1 point ago

I'm talking about hindsight though. At the beginning of the video, yeah it's a great idea, what kind of weird quantum particle wave gravity physics would cause here to fly 2 metres into the air and off the bed? By the end, when you can see how close she was to injury...probably not so great an idea.

[–]siamthailand 0 points1 point ago

You could've been born intelligent, but didn't.

[–]tangopopper 0 points1 point ago

*weren't

[–]siamthailand 0 points1 point ago

[–]KashLuchador 1 point2 points ago

[–]czarchastic 1 point2 points ago

Wow... I kept watching this thinking the dad dropped another mattress on top of her. framerate ftl...

[–]stemgang 1 point2 points ago

Due to slow loading times, she was up in the air for 5 seconds when I watched it.

Quality GIF. Well done.

(Also, she enjoyed it.)

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points ago

All I see is a good Dad.

[–]thescrapplekid 5 points6 points ago

Yeah, I don't care. Its still awesome

[–]kainesc 2 points3 points ago

This father is trying to entertain his kids! At the expense of their injuries. What's wrong with that?

[–]dwehrietke 1 point2 points ago

Andddd in reverse

[–]gordigor 0 points1 point ago

I couldn't stop watching it. Over and over.

[–]deikan 0 points1 point ago

I blinked and I thought for a moment the dad smothered his daughter with a mattress.

[–]daweaver 0 points1 point ago

Too bad the fan was on.

[–]Rufuskthxbye 0 points1 point ago

I feel like this guy wins this award 3 times a year...

[–]TheDollsAreSurprised 0 points1 point ago

Holy shit i thought he was going to body slam her

[–]cma83 0 points1 point ago

[–]mushmancat 0 points1 point ago

Must be a weak year for the dad of the year category.

[–]Sgt_Insomnia 0 points1 point ago

So close to face planting that radiator..My heart skipped like I was there watching

[–]WisconsnNymphomaniac 0 points1 point ago

Cool Story Time. I know first hand how dangerous these things can be when there is a large difference in weight. When I was a kid we tried doing this and I was launched a good 8 feet into the air and landed on very hard ground. It is perhaps the most painful thing that has ever happened to me. Then my brother was nearly thrown into the fire.

[–]shit_stick 0 points1 point ago

Nominate another dad for dad of the year... Never pick a winner.

[–]herroazn 0 points1 point ago

Hey hon---ohhhh shit...

[–]iamnotatroll 0 points1 point ago

Just found a use for that air mattress I've had in the garage forever.

[–]BlooBirdy 0 points1 point ago

I just laughed soooo freakin' hard....

[–]KatLikeAKat 0 points1 point ago

Still better than my dad :D

[–]Ibnz_1009 0 points1 point ago

SCIENCE!

[–]TheItalianSpy 0 points1 point ago

THAT KID COULD HAVE BEEN HURT! NAG NAG NAG NAG PAIN NAG NAG CONCUSSION NAG NAG!

[–]nonamer18 0 points1 point ago

What? Seems like a great dad having fun with his kid(s), just not the most careful dad.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point ago

The thing is, kids ask their parents to do this stuff all the time. I once asked my dad to pour cold water over my head in the bath. I didn't expect it to be THAT cold and it was so shocking I was crying my eyes out.

[–]nawoanor 0 points1 point ago*

So you see doctor, that's why my daughter said I broke her ribs.

[–]Vadoff 0 points1 point ago

...and she suffered a minor concussion and 14 stiches.

[–]poleethman 0 points1 point ago

Same thing happened with my little cousin and me. He tried his hardest not to cry, and I felt bad for a week.

[–]dksprocket 0 points1 point ago

The way she flails her arms and legs while barely in the frame is priceless.

[–]No-one-cares 0 points1 point ago

We had some parents do this at a local bouncy place where they have those large inflatable play gyms. Their kid is dead now from head trauma.

[–]WELCOME-TO-REDDIT 0 points1 point ago

She was just inches away from being able to count to potatoe,

[–]crusoe 0 points1 point ago

...till she goes out that window...

[–]wilsonjonez 0 points1 point ago
