Most Japanese know a song called neko funjatta (I ran over a cat). Here's a cute little girl singing it & playing the song on the piano. The song is essentially about someone stating that the ran over a cat & the cat dying.

I hit a cat once. Ran out from behind a parked car and right in front of my shitty 89 Mercury Sable. The thud it made was horrible. There was another car coming the opposite direction with two teenage girls in it. I remember vividly looking into their car and seeing the girl in the passenger seat with her hands on her face and a look of absolute horror.
I pulled over right after it happened. The cat had somehow made it to the opposite side of the road. I started walking over toward in and a man had already walked up to it. He looked back at me, and said "You don't want to see this. I'll take care of it" then "It's alright, really" after my feeble objection to him dealing with the cat I had just killed. I went back to my car and drove away numb.

It was nearly 10 years ago and I still try to avoid driving by the spot where it happened because it still makes me sick.
