Took a couple years but gradually figured out how to do college:

Read and understand assigned chapters before every class and pay attention during lectures. Review materials again to set it all. Ace every weekly test.

Weekend before final exams go to the beach, party, and relax. Finals week; get lots of sleep, go for walks, relax. Ace every final.

Earned CS valedictorian with that method.

Yes, really, this is the way. You read and understand before the lecture, it does work, but I had the attention span to do it for only the 1st week of classes.

It totally works. It took me until my senior year to figure it out, unfortunately. I was a straight-up humanities guy who did abysmally in high school science, but I decided I might as well try something technical in my last semester so I signed up for two neuroscience courses. I aced both straight up just by reviewing the given material beforehand, during, and after class. In fact, one week I accidentally overslept for a test and had 20 minutes instead of an hour and a half. I wrote that fact on the front of the test and did it the best I could. I got a 95.

Paying attention during class is the best way to get the information through in the beginning so that when you review for a test it's not brand new.

I aimed for perfect understanding of daily/weekly material and perfect scores on weekly tests. By last week each quarter I had complete grasp of materials, plus too burned-out to study more. Didn't need to review materials, did need peace to unwind and sort everything in my head.

I should mention I got 8 hours of sleep every night, healthy sit-down meals, and brief but regular walking exercise; you need to maintain your physical health.

edit: This was for a technical B.S. degree with heavily weighted weekly exams and 1 research paper. Not sure how applicable it would be to a B.A. degree with more research papers and heavily weighted final exam. Probably still valid.

You know what, I like this. Next time someone won't shut up in the library I am going to sneak up in front of them, pop my head up and let out a big, long hiss. That'll shut em up good. If they say anything again I'll run back and get in their face and hiss. I need to make sure to eat some garlic first.

Oh god it makes me so mad. A few times I have climbed the stairs to the fifth floor of your main library - the only way to get there - thinking that no one would climb all those fucking stairs just to have a chat. But every time there has been some dipshits up there talking, and they spread out perfectly so as to cover the whole floor. Why!? Is it some kind of sick joke? Closely following people who go to the fifth floor to talk on the dickhead-in-the-library scale are library staff members who wear excessively clompy, high-heeled shoes.
