If you watch the video, you'll see that the tiger was way outside the clearly-marked boundaries of the wilderness preserve. This tiger was blatantly defying the law.

I think there are clear rule of engagement issues, as well...the human was in clear view on top of an elephant and the tiger was blatantly cheating by hiding in the tall grass...in future, both should be on elephant back to even out the playing field (now, where's /u/shitty_watercolour when you need them!)
