I've always thought that that picture would make a sweet back piece in the style of christians who get a Last Supper back piece. You'd have to reaarange it so that the important people were closer together and zoom in to get any detail, but just the idea of it.

Clearly Da Vinci would have sat in the middle.

Einstein was clever but Da Vinci was the fscking man. The only person to be classed as a "immeasurable genius". Painter, sculptor, architect, musician, scientist, mathematician, engineer, inventor, anatomist, geologist, cartographer, botanist, and writer... Supposedly he was "a man who was tall, athletic and extremely handsome" too. Basically every other human sucks compared to Da Vinci ok?

In fact to further illustrate my point: Da Vinci painted the original and he could still be in this "scientists" version! (Mind BLOWN!)

Actually, Newton is probably a better choice, given the fact that his body (even though he's in the right seat) looks a little closer to where Judas' was in the original (off to the left of the three).

He's also clutching the apple (much like judas was clutching the silver)

And, as simpletonsavant mentioned, he's the most religious/nutty out of most of them.

Newton is definitely in the Judas spot. But, as you say, he spent the latter half of his life religiously insane, so he's the most likely suspect to have betrayed Einstein.

Plus, Einstein is the dude who proved that Newton wasn't totally correct, so that 17th Century bastard had motive to betray Einstein, as well.
