As a cancer survivor, I find this hilarious.

[–]iDoiStuff 17 points18 points ago

I'm glad to read the 4th word.

[–]UnadulteratedUnicorn 35 points36 points ago

survivor

for the lazy

[–]keeok 8 points9 points ago

you are a saint for that.

[–]Paul-ish 1 point2 points ago

Well you have basically earned the ability to say this humorously.

[–]DJ__Roomba 0 points1 point ago

As a cancer survivor, it would have gone over my head.

[–]DancesWithDownvotes 0 points1 point ago

In chemo now. Sometimes it's so awkward when asking people how they're doing, and vice versa. I feel bad sometimes for being responsible for that feeling.

[–]crustalmighty -1 points0 points ago

As a cancer, I am a deeply emotional person inside, but is smooth and confident on the outside.

[–]OMGItsTheEric 32 points33 points ago

"How's work going?" "It's basically dead." Shit.

[–]CapoKub 38 points39 points ago

I said that to someone ....While I was at a funeral. I wish I were joking. I realized what I had said immediately afterward and spend the rest of the time hiding

[–]helpthrowaway1000 15 points16 points ago

I dont think you need to do that. They may be dead, but you may be barely hanging on. Don't forget, you're important too.

[–]CapoKub 6 points7 points ago

I just felt I had said something very insensitive ,without thought. My social awkwardness can be pretty impressive sometimes.

[–]helpthrowaway1000 3 points4 points ago

You and the rest of us, friend. Don't feel like your own wellbeing is less important just because you're at a funeral. You are special. I promise. You can say 'surviving' without feeling bad. You are entitled to.

[–]CapoKub 0 points1 point ago

I understand.I just felt bad for how i said it. Like, it is a normal response for me (jokingly) when people ask. Well...this time and the tone I used (solemn) made for a less than favorable result. That time was for the family and friends of the deceased, so I felt like I had made it about me for a moment. I over think things far too often

[–]helpthrowaway1000 0 points1 point ago

Don't you worry. The family may find it hard to think some people are also having a hard time, but that's not a problem. They'll accept that. Don't blame yourself. You're awesome.

[–]mark9O 0 points1 point ago

You are the nicest redditor i've ever seen.

[–]helpthrowaway1000 1 point2 points ago*

Uhh... thanks. I have a lot of problems of my own (I'm posting this on a throwaway account I've created because my relationship is ending this evening), but I try and just be supportive.

[–]NOTTedMosby -1 points0 points ago

I...I love you...

[–]helpthrowaway1000 0 points1 point ago

I love you too.

[–]Neurotikitty 0 points1 point ago

If it was my dead family member, I would have thanked you for the dose of unintentional comic relief. I appreciate people who can lighten the mood at funerals. I don't think death should be so damn solemn, but rather a remembrance and celebration of life. Humor is an important part of that. :)

[–]ekarshi 26 points27 points ago

you just hit a new low

[–]Clearly_sarcastic 7 points8 points ago

As a cancer survivor, I would have laughed and called you an ass hole, but appreciated your candor. Humor was the number one thing that kept me going.

And chemotherapy.

[–][deleted] 10 points11 points ago

As a cancer survivor, I can tell you guys: Most cancer survivors or people getting treatment for cancer have a better sense of humor than you think.

[–]Dom19 1 point2 points ago

Was this not a Shaun of the Dead reference?

[–]hooshtin[S] 0 points1 point ago

If it's in Shaun of the Dead, then I forgot about it, because it legitimately happened to me.

[–]FrostofAeons -1 points0 points ago

Ha! I was hoping someone else caught that. Well I usually say that in reference but nobody seems to get it.

[–]cass_519 0 points1 point ago

Ouch... That made me cringe.

[–]jealousjelly 0 points1 point ago

If it makes you feel any better, my friend told me her grandmother had rectal cancer and I didn't realize I replied with "bummer".

[–]daberg -1 points0 points ago

Well if you were talking to him/her chances are he/she's surviving, too.

[–]ADashie -2 points-1 points ago

I laughed so hard.

[–]JamMasterFelch -1 points0 points ago

Hahahahahaha fucking hell man.

[–]mincho617 -1 points0 points ago

Unintentional scumbag Steve?

[–]elclark94 -1 points0 points ago

ahh dick

[–]RDIIIG -1 points0 points ago

Never, ever, ever give up.

[–]SirPaincakes -1 points0 points ago

We're the worst type of people, I've said this to a friend of mine also lol. Luckily he had a great sense of humor, hopefully your friend does too lol.

[–]dorkian_gray -1 points0 points ago

Why is this only SAwkP? It should be Socially Awkward Awesome Penguin. Seriously, that shit was smooth - if your friend didn't get a good hearty laugh out of it s/he has no sense of humour.

[–]Ben_G_man -1 points0 points ago

You THINK that it was awkward. But actually, it was quite witty and hilarious.

[–]thebends888 -1 points0 points ago

Whoa. Dick move.

[–]andywa1 -1 points0 points ago

You're gonna go to hell...as am I for laughing at this.

[–]JackPrince -1 points0 points ago

My standard reply if old friends ask me what's going on is always 'Living'. I'll guess this thats basicly the same.

[–]keeok -1 points0 points ago

Well played.

[–]mandocov -1 points0 points ago

I was texting with a friend who was just diagnosed with leukemia, and I accidently ended the conversation with, "Hey, I'm dying of sleep deprivation. I'll text you tomorrow."

[–]deathschool -1 points0 points ago

Quality SAP post. A true rarity. Kudos sir.

[–]LerithXanatos -1 points0 points ago

Scumbag Steve would've worked better.

denial

[–]DangerMouseToby -1 points0 points ago

At least your not going 'Reddit this is my friend he is suffering from cancer how much karma can I get?'

[–]Herbal_Combat -1 points0 points ago

Gotta love that gallows humor.

[–]geoff11 -1 points0 points ago

YOUR COMMA IS OUTSIDE OF THE QUOTATION MARKS.

[–]dilly2012 -1 points0 points ago

just say: "sorry, Chemosabe!"

[–]Eat_sandwiches -2 points-1 points ago

Ahhhh I had a friend who's mom passed away from cancer.. One time he was coughing pretty bad and I said it sounded like Bronchitis, he said, "Noo, don't say that!" and I replied, "Denial is always the first step".

[–]remembername -3 points-2 points ago

Oh man..Don't you hate when your brain trolls you like that? I was just on the phone with the bank and she said "thanks for using MBC" and I said "you too". You win.

[–]Aboxofmnms -3 points-2 points ago

Said something awkward Better post to Reddit

[–]wecameasbromans22 -3 points-2 points ago
