When I was a baby, my cat slept on my face... I turned blue... My dad, feeling things were too quiet in the house, ran to my room, grabbed the cat, threw it against the wall... We never saw it again. I gasped and got my color back quickly.

Edit: just to clarify, you either put the cat in a new house, or when the baby is alone it needs to be in a room where the cat cannot go (closed door, closed window). Simple, no?

Or here's an idea lock the cat in a certain part of the house. My old cat sleeps in the basement because he meows a ton and my dad hates it. It doesn't really bug the cat that much, believe me.

Babys sleep all the time and cats are constantly wandering around. It's not like you can expect the dad to be watching the kid and the cat 24/7. All these downvotes are coming from people who never watch kids all day anyways.

If you have a cat, you close the door on the baby and have a baby monitor. Or you rehouse the cat after you get a baby.You don't throw the cat against the fucking wall for no reason.

Not sure if I'm being trolled with that username. But yes closing the door will help, but the baby monitor won't help if the kid is being smothered, and if he is being smothered, there's def reason there. Im not just advocating for punting cats anchorman style, but I would def be a little protective of my kid if it was being killed.

What is the reason? It's not like the cat is intentionally trying to smother the baby. Nor will throwing the cat against the wall actually teach the cat anything, other than some bastard picked her up and threw her against the wall for no reason.

Close the door, and the cat doesn't go in and sleep on the baby.

He threw the cat against the wall because the kneejerk reaction to seeing your child turn blue with a cat on its face is to get whatevers killing your child the fuck off and away from the kid asap. I don't think the thought at that point is to be saying "okay let's calmly place this cat somewhere else"

You won't find any because its an extremely common myth.

I don't have any info backing it (because I'm at work and shouldn't on reddit or surfing the internet) but I had a cat when my daughter was born and I read a few articles on the subject. There are a NUMBER of myths associated with cats killing babies and I'm really not sure why but this one is probably the most common and also the craziest.

You do need to watch out for cats suffocating babies because they are laying on them (like this one pictured) but like all animal and children households, never leave your animals unattended with your children.

Also, Toxoplasmosis is from handling cat-litter because it exists in cat-feces. So the child is more likely to get sick from a parent changing the cat litter and then handling the baby right afterward than the cat giving it to the child directly.

The last one isn't directed at you, but everyone that keeps posting something about Toxoplasmosis.
