I quit smashing because of how hard they fucked the Cap'n in Brawl.

I haven't looked into competitive brawl since right around release, so I don't know if anything changed, but even initial impressions were just too much.

I try not to act like that, but the curbstomping of responsiveness and low altitude air speed just ruined him for me, whatever else might have been changed.

The metagame of vanilla brawl hasn't evolved too much, and if I recall Falcon is still in a very low tier (just ahead of Ganon; the worst character in the game). But for a fun alternative, you should look into the recently released second demo of Project: M. It fixes most if not all of Brawl's problems, plays a lot like Melee, and is a blast to play.

I was despondent about how brawl changed smash, just from a preference standpoint [I don't really want to get into a fanboy argument with anyone, as I have to assume that brawl has ardent defenders lurking around a corner I've never explored], so I haven't had my ear to the ground about the series in half a decade or something. This had completely escaped me.
