The difference is that you don't choose to be a race - but you do choose to be a cop. Is it not fair to say that a certain type of person is more likely to choose a profession because of the characteristics of that job?

Still, even if the majority of cops were D-bag - which i'm not yet convinced that they are - don't you think it's fair to say that there might be a significant amount of cops who are not D-bags? Is it not unfair to generalize cops in this way - given that generalizing other groups of people is considered highly unfair?

I think treating someone worse (like being a dick to a cop even when he's being perfectly professional) just because they are a member of a certain group is unfair, however making this sort of joke about a group that is composed of voluntary members isn't all that unreasonable.

What about making jokes about a political party? You can make jokes about them, or even criticize them based solely on generalizations. This is because they wanted to be a member of that group, and actively pursued that goal. The same is true for any profession.

But isn't that like saying that it's fair and not offensive to generalize people of a certain religion just because being in a religion is almost totally voluntary (technically speaking)? I would say that it's always unfair and offensive to generalize any group of people. Again oftentimes for the sake of fun and humor, we may resort to offensive jokes but it needs to be noted that these kinds of jokes are still offensive.

Check the joke. How many cops does it take to change a lightbulb? None, they just beat the room for being black. So now the implication is that cops are racists, which might be true for some cops and maybe true for a large number of cops, but it's definitely not true for all cops.

All i'm saying is that this is an offensive joke. Not that i'm against offensive jokes, they have their place but i think we need to see offensive jokes as offensive jokes.

HA! I used to work with this guy! The irony is that he is one of the nicest guys you'd ever want meet... and I am not just saying that, cause some of our co-workers were total douchers and deserve much more to be this meme.

For those of you complaining about how this makes fun of cops, not everyone thinks cops are scumbags. Those of you who think this is true should get their shit figured out, you wouldn't have so many "bad" encounters with cops if you didn't continuously break the law. My dad is a cop and this shit gives cops a bad name, most cops aren't like that so stop acting like they are and grow up.
