Rules

  1. No screenshots, or pictures with added or superimposed text. This includes image macros, comics, info-graphics and most diagrams. Text (e.g. a URL) serving to credit the original author is exempt.

  2. No gore or porn. NSFW content must be tagged.

  3. No personal information. This includes anything hosted on Facebook's servers, as they can be traced to the original account holder. Stalking & harassment will not be tolerated.

  4. No solicitation of votes (including "cake day" posts), posts with their sole purpose being to communicate with another redditor, or [FIXED] posts. DAE posts go in /r/DoesAnybodyElse. "Fixed" posts should be added as a comment to the original image.

  5. Submissions must link directly to a specific image file or to an image hosting website with minimal ads. We do not allow blog hosting of images ("blogspam"), but links to albums on image hosting websites are okay. URL shorteners are prohibited.

  • If your submission appears to be filtered but definitely meets the above rules, please send us a message with a link to the comments section of your post (not a direct link to the image). Don't delete it as that just makes the filter hate you!

  • If you come across any rule violations, please report the submission or message the mods and one of us will remove it!

Please also try to come up with original post titles. Submissions that use certain clichés/memes will be automatically tagged with a warning.

Reminds me of Uncharted for PS3. Or Tomb Raider.

[–]MacWiener 13 points14 points ago

That's because part of Tomb Raider was shot there! It's Ta Prohm near Angkor Wat. Incidentally, here is a picture of me there. http://imgur.com/XiNmk

I thought Forest Temple from Ocarina of Time.

[–]travworld 0 points1 point ago

Now that you say that... YES YES YES.

[–]Nippelklyper 2 points3 points ago

To me it looks like Lost Izalith in Dark Souls. Maybe not as popular, but pretty damn close

[–]Deddan 0 points1 point ago

Pretty sure this place was the inspiration for the look of Lost Izalith.

[–]speedsoffonsegway 1 point2 points ago

I thought of Tomb Raider 3, the first level (?). That's the part with the monkey.

[–]hobofats 1 point2 points ago

at first i thought this was supposed to be a screenshot for a new uncharted game.

[–]theartfuldubber 19 points20 points ago

That would be a lovely place for a Holiday.

[–]Scuttlebutt91 4 points5 points ago

Oooh I wanna go explore that and re-enact Tomb Raider now.

[–]Lucky_Striker 5 points6 points ago

[–]GrinningPariah 1 point2 points ago

Is there anywhere to find ruins like this which aren't absolutely crowded with assholes?

[–]Lucky_Striker 1 point2 points ago

Here

Been there, was the only one.

[–]Anotherstani 6 points7 points ago

One of the best places I have ever been to. Bloody hot though

[–]cid73 2 points3 points ago

I always thought it would be badass to go back in time and see what these ancient civilizations looked like in their prime.

[–]Veetmachine 2 points3 points ago

Indy?

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points ago

I hear you can get a lobster dinner there for like, a dollar.

[–]Red_Eye_Jedi 2 points3 points ago

This is probably one of the most famous spots in Angkor Wat, a complex series of Temples in Cambodia. If it reminds you of Tomb Raider, it might be because part of the first movie was filmed here.

[–]lach88 1 point2 points ago

i was there last year, its an amazing place but there are some very very bad places as well. we spent 3 nights in poipet one of the worst places around.

[–]mrcaterpillar 1 point2 points ago

Jedi knight academy anyone?

[–]offie 1 point2 points ago

I fucking loved going there, but the poverty was oh so sad.

[–]omgnowai 1 point2 points ago

i wanna know how the ancients carved that shit so well.

[–]walking_the_burbs 1 point2 points ago*

I was there this year. Outside one of the temples was a place where they had people chiseling similar stuff. Most of the stones are a form of ?sandstone? and it's fairly soft. I watched this one young guy chisel away for a few minutes and he made a lot more progress than I thought he would.

Granted, he was using metal chisels and I wondered what they used when it was originally made. The following article may be of interest to you.

http://www.smithsonianmag.com/history-archaeology/Digs-Bodies-of-Evidence.html

P.S. If anyone is planning on going I can give you the email of the tuk tuk driver I used. He's a nice guy, reasonable rates and he drives a batman motif tuk tuk. :)

And it's FUCKING HOT AS HELL. Drink lots of water. I toured the temples for 3 days and my clothes were soaked from head to toe from sweating all day. But hey, that just gives you a reason to drink more beer when you get back to town. (yeah, yeah, I know alcohol doesn't rehydrate you, but it sure tastes good after all the sweating/heat/dust you're exposed to)

Here's my non-professional, more close-up, more up-to-date (2012) picture that I took. Blurry tourist head and rope fencing included for free.

Beng Mealea is a better alternative if you are visiting soon. About 90 minutes from Siem Reap by car but there is no one there and you can walk around inside similarly amazing ruins with no restrictions.

There are a lot of minefields there though so keep to the paths - supposedly cleared by the UN but I didn't chance it.

[–]WeldWaja 0 points1 point ago

I actually think they used that location in the first Laura Croft movie.

[–]SammyG93 0 points1 point ago

Reminds me of skyrim

[–]chiachia2 0 points1 point ago

is this where Jungle Book was filmed?

[–]SpongerSean 0 points1 point ago

Temple run.

[–]flanl 0 points1 point ago

Perhaps one of the world's best-named bars lies in the nearby hub of Siem Reap. It's called Angkor What?

[–]T3ckno93 0 points1 point ago

Just the bear necessities

[–]The_Insyder 0 points1 point ago

ooooohhhhhhhh...IT'S A HOLIDAY IN CAMBODIA!!! IT'S TOUGH KID, BUT IT'S LIFE!!!

[–]cromonolith 0 points1 point ago

Is that where they filmed the climactic scene in Congo?

[–]whateverdipshit 0 points1 point ago

Deceiving photo, Angkor Wat gets about two million visitors per year.

[–]Rangermedic77 0 points1 point ago
