[–]pimpintuna 10 points11 points ago

Could it be another saskatchewan redditor?! We're too few and far between.

[–]rdmusic16 7 points8 points ago

Considering our population, I'm mildly impressed by our reddit presence.

[–]gla3dr 4 points5 points ago

I hear ya. I was surprised by the number of people commenting here that know what is up with the picture.

[–]Fluidmachine 2 points3 points ago

Another Saskatoon redditor.

Wonder what the odds are that some of us actually somehow know each other, too many of us on here to not have that happen.

[–]thetokingbandit 0 points1 point ago

well its a fairly small city so the chances aren't too bad haha

[–]Zebidee 4 points5 points ago

Isn't 'We're too few and far between' Saskatchewan's motto?

[–]FoxxyJunior 2 points3 points ago

Im from Humboldt the one in Saskatchewan ofc

[–]Mousable 1 point2 points ago

Saskatoon redditor, reporting for duty!

[–]rednotes 7 points8 points ago

hurray for bunnyhugs!

[–]kilroy122 2 points3 points ago

Aww yee. Regina, right here. The city that smells just like it sounds.

[–]cheeseloaf 30 points31 points ago

Frankly, Tisdale is a terrible place for a vacation no matter what the town motto is.

[–]rdmusic16 2 points3 points ago

Very true. Nothing against the place, but vacation there? Hells no.

[–]MrSelfdizstruct75 16 points17 points ago

Great album. Always on my playlist.

[–]kramersghost 7 points8 points ago

Oh sweet Alien Jourgensen

[–]dwightmoody 23 points24 points ago

Yeah, there's a reason everyone calls it canola.

[–]rdmusic16 9 points10 points ago

No, canola is called canola because of the name 'CANadian Oil, Low Acid', and can be either rapeseed or field mustard. Canola and Rapeseed are not interchangeable names.

[–]dwightmoody 8 points9 points ago

Squares and rectangles aren't interchangable terms either, but I bet if "square" was synonymous with violently forcing your dick into someone, people would try to sell you rectangles that had four equal sides rather than the rape shape.

[–]Enginerdiest 2 points3 points ago

Field mustard is not usually used to make oil though.

[–]bwmcmaste 3 points4 points ago

I was familiar with rapeseed, but when I looked up field mustard and found that it is also known as "turnip rape" I chuckled.

[–]rdmusic16 -1 points0 points ago

Very true.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points ago

you guys are serious.

[–]rdmusic16 3 points4 points ago

I don't joke about Canola; my cash crop deserves my respect.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points ago

No disrespect. Now I know where to go when I need to know something about vegetable oil.

[–]sprashoo 0 points1 point ago

Oilseed, not just oil, as I understood it

[–]yergi 6 points7 points ago

Rapeseed, you newb.

[–]rdmusic16 -2 points-1 points ago

The sign says rape, so you can't really blame OP. Funny, even if you know.

[–]yergi -1 points0 points ago*

Rape is rapeseed. This is a fairly common noun.

[–]rdmusic16 0 points1 point ago

As someone who grew up on a farm in Saskatchewan and has helped grow Canola and Rape for my entire life, I understand what Rape and rapeseed is.

So I understand that it's a noun, but I still find the sign funny. Not hilarious, but chuckle worthy. You are more than welcome to disagree with me; different people find different things funny.

Not sure why you're so condescending in your reply, especially since you're wrong. I know what rape is, actually read frequently (though this has nothing to do with knowing what rape and rapeseed is; you can learn many things from other sources than books), and yet I still find it funny.

Ministry was one of my favorite bands as a teenager and I am just now learning this.

I always just thought it was some kind of jab at American values. Way to read way more into shit than I should.

[–]NewEnglandism 4 points5 points ago

All I thought was the Ministry song/album.

[–]Trent1373 0 points1 point ago

Now I have it playing through my head.

[–]Ontopourmama 1 point2 points ago

Well...at least they have honey....

[–]frist_psot 1 point2 points ago

The old Greeks used honey for lubrication too.

[–]youngflames 1 point2 points ago

Upvote for relevant geography.

[–]DASBULLCRAP 1 point2 points ago

Oh, so thats where Ministry got the album name...

[–]fstonecanada 1 point2 points ago

Both sweet in their own respects

[–]FoxxyJunior 1 point2 points ago

Nice too see us Saskatchewan people get some credit around here, i feel accepted by society for once <3

[–]ponimaju 1 point2 points ago

I live in this great province. We have some fucked up town names too.

[–]notyourmomswhore 0 points1 point ago

well, ive found where im going for vacation.

[–]Darklor69 0 points1 point ago

it's actually quite a nice town. my great grandfather lived there, as do my second cousins.

[–]veritas7882 0 points1 point ago

They just put that sign up to keep people away from their meth lab..

[–]redhotkiwi3 0 points1 point ago

I was born there. The sign proves that my home town, is indeed, a fun place to vacation.

[–]nastshabast 0 points1 point ago

Best thing I've ever seen on reddit. My friend used to drop "Tisdale, the Land of Rape ad Honey" all the time back in the day. I'd burst out laughing every time.

[–]rednotes 0 points1 point ago

I was born kinda near here in a land called Prince Albert.

[–]fatalia 5 points6 points ago

Sadly, being from PA is nothing to be proud of.

[–]rednotes 0 points1 point ago

Just hardly not jealous of me being from pa aren't ya? ehhh?:P(gosh my Pa slang is poor)

It could be a lot worse honestly, but its really not a bad city...it just has nothing going for it. I'm glad I'm out, but it will always be my hometown where I grew up. Plus I like the whole penis piercing joke, makes me giggle every single time.

[–]fatalia 0 points1 point ago

I don't know, it's a pretty rough city to be honest. Could be worse but it also could've been way better. I hope the idiot who decided on the Penn rather than the University got some real life karma. And yes, the penis piercing joke does get me too, haha.

[–]glenlikespie 0 points1 point ago

Even worse when they combine the two. You'll never be able to eat honey again.

[–]HoleInTheEarth 0 points1 point ago

There should be a picture of Hand Banana.

[–]stumplinheimer 0 points1 point ago

Saskredditor Scumboldt division reporting in

[–]Nimblee 0 points1 point ago

Timmy Turner's home town...

[–]turnleftdale 0 points1 point ago

A better title would have been: I prefer milk.

[–]dave-gonzo 0 points1 point ago

Ministry!!!

[–]kajarago 0 points1 point ago

[–]Rowebro 0 points1 point ago

Does rape have another meaning?

[–]needmoresleep555 2 points3 points ago

Also from Saskatchewan, its a type of wheat i believe...I don't know why they don't say Rape Wheat.

[–]kajarago 1 point2 points ago

http://www.britannica.com/EBchecked/topic/491375/rape

It's a plant in the mustard family, the seeds of which are commonly used to produce rapeseed (canola) oil.

[–]kgunderson 2 points3 points ago

It's actually not wheat but related to canola, but you're right in that it's a crop.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rapeseed

[–]geometricpiss 2 points3 points ago

To add another "actually", canola itself isn't... well, it isn't a thing. The word itself is made up, taken from the phrase "canadian oil low acid".

Because nobody would write a recipe calling for "add rape oil (to taste)".

[–]rdmusic16 1 point2 points ago

Canola was made from field mustard as well as rapeseed.

[–]Rowebro -2 points-1 points ago

Thanks for the info. You get an upvote

[–]rdmusic16 1 point2 points ago

Not wheat; rapeseed is different. Canola was created as a genetically modified variety of rapeseed. They've also made canola from field mustard. Canola is now used instead of rapeseed most places.

(technically you can just call it 'Rape', but rapeseed sounds less... illegal)

[–]kajarago 1 point2 points ago

Rapeseed is, well, the seed of the plant. The plant itself is called rape, and the rapeseed is pressed to make rapeseed oil, also known as canola oil.

Canola refers to either rape or field mustard plants, and either of their seeds' oils are referred to as canola oil.

Finally, canola need not be genetically modified, though it can be.

[–]rdmusic16 0 points1 point ago

Yes, but canola was originally 'created' as a product to be sold as a genetically modified variant of rape (when the name was initially branded and started being sold as a seed).

And yes, that's why I said you can call it rape. Rapeseed is often used instead (incorrectly, but still used nonetheless) simply because many people don't often like saying rape; whether this is from the confusion that stems from it, or because they don't like saying rape, I'm unsure.

[–]Bobloblaw13 0 points1 point ago

Sadly enough, I have been there. Just for the honey...

[–]butts_lol 1 point2 points ago

I did some work there one time. I went to a bar at the Beehive hotel and asked what kind of whiskey they had. Apparently they don't have different kinds of whiskey. They only have "whiskey"

[–]rdmusic16 0 points1 point ago

What do you have against Canola?

[–]Name_Not_Available 0 points1 point ago

Well I'm torn. I love rape, but honey is just morally wrong.

[–]bin_eater 0 points1 point ago

<----Saskatchewan Redditor. Tisdale is about 20 minutes from my hometown.

[–]xtian11 0 points1 point ago

sweet sweet lubrication.

[–]TheDude- -1 points0 points ago

That depends on the family. The Firefly family probably wouldn't mind.

[–]SuperFlaaffy -1 points0 points ago

i like honey...wait....

[–]CDangerC -1 points0 points ago

Fuckin' Sack-a-chewn.

[–]rdmusic16 1 point2 points ago

It hurt to read this pronunciation...

[–]Noktan -1 points0 points ago

Ahahaha I get it, it's funny because Tis means pee(noun) in Danish!

[–]theplanetsun -1 points0 points ago

I know, I hate honey
