Rules

  1. No screenshots, or pictures with added or superimposed text. This includes image macros, comics, info-graphics and most diagrams. Text (e.g. a URL) serving to credit the original author is exempt.

  2. No gore or porn. NSFW content must be tagged.

  3. No personal information. This includes anything hosted on Facebook's servers, as they can be traced to the original account holder. Stalking & harassment will not be tolerated.

  4. No solicitation of votes (including "cake day" posts), weight loss photos, posts with their sole purpose being to communicate with another redditor, or [FIXED] posts. Weight loss photos go in /r/loseit, DAE posts go in /r/DoesAnybodyElse. "Fixed" posts should be added as a comment to the original image.

  5. Submissions must link directly to a specific image file or to an image hosting website with minimal ads. We do not allow blog hosting of images ("blogspam"), but links to albums on image hosting websites are okay. URL shorteners are prohibited.

  • If your submission appears to be filtered but definitely meets the above rules, please send us a message with a link to the comments section of your post (not a direct link to the image). Don't delete it as that just makes the filter hate you!

  • If you come across any rule violations, please report the submission or message the mods and one of us will remove it!

Please also try to come up with original post titles. Submissions that use certain clichés/memes will be automatically tagged with a warning.

32°32'21.36"N 117°04'20.74"W - Photographer's POV.

[–]raabbasi 72 points73 points ago

Haha, just to the right of that, there is a baseball diamond on the Mexican side. Imagine hitting a home run but losing the ball because the border patrol wont let you cross the fence and get it.

[–]bobbyreno 85 points86 points ago

I'd be more happy that I just hit a 600 ft home run.

[–]Pyrojoe333 13 points14 points ago

The Sandlot just took on a whole new meaning.

[–]mrhorrible 3 points4 points ago

gritty re-boot?

[–]Bfeezey 0 points1 point ago

ppaarraa.....ssiieemmpprree......

[–]Sreyz 12 points13 points ago

Holy shit. That OP's pic looks so amazing I legitimately thought it was photoshopped O.O

[–]TheSimbie 29 points30 points ago

Wait a fuckin' minute... the civilized side is the Mexican one???

[–]Cyb3rSab3r 58 points59 points ago

Yeah, you really think the average American wants to live so close to the Mexican border?

[–]lol_nooo___okmaybe 10 points11 points ago

Plus on parts of the border which experience seasonal monsoons, shit (literally) and trash from mexico flows into Arizona and New Mexico. So yeah, think I'll pass

[–]Lefthandedsock 21 points22 points ago

There's a difference between civilized and inhabited.

[–]auralgasm 9 points10 points ago*

TYL that Mexican people don't tend to live in huts, and that they even drive cars and stuff. Were you really unaware that middle-income countries don't always look like third world villages?

Here, I have some more pictures that will probably blow your mind:

Gaborone, Botswana (in Africa)

Windhoek, Namibia (in Africa)

Montevideo, Uruguay (South America)

Monterrey, Mexico

Almaty, Kazakhstan

I chose these countries because they're all considered middle-income countries. The average per capita income of a person in these countries is around 8000-15000 a year, enough to live like Americans lived in the 50s...a car, a house, maybe a TV, maybe not a whole lot of other luxuries, but reasonably comfortable. There are more desperately poor people than there are in America, but they are accompanied by an expanding middle class.

[–]w1nst0n 1 point2 points ago

I like how for the most part you couldn't even be bothered to link to a picture.

[–]Angoth 1 point2 points ago

That chip on your shoulder makes you do a lot of work.

[–]auralgasm 2 points3 points ago

Really, I have the chip on my shoulder? This guy is actually amazed that people who live in other countries can be civilized...it's the kind of American ignorance that many people find very typical, and it's the kind of thing I want to combat. You know that people from all over the world laugh at how ignorant some Americans are of other countries...

[–]TheSimbie 3 points4 points ago

Ahahah, you think I'm American? Oh, dude... I live in one of that countries you call "middle-income countries", so everybody calms his tits.

[–]GhostShogun -1 points0 points ago

Why would anybody want to live next to Mexico? The only thing keeping that country intact is that no cartel has been able to gain a significant advantage over the others.

[–]auralgasm 0 points1 point ago

The cartel wars are what is hurting the country. If one cartel managed to get a firm grip, what would probably happen is they'd just be like Goldman Sachs.

[–]SilentStarryNight 0 points1 point ago

I'll do you one better: i have lived in Mexico for the past few years. It is very beautiful and peaceful in the place i live, and i get to enjoy very nice food and great friends in the town i'm in. The weather is generally pretty calm and clear but with enough rain to keep things green most of the time. Also, with the way the USA (my country of origin) govt is going, i may have just about the same freedoms on either side of the border, ergo so much for home field advantage.

[–]Anonymous3542 -3 points-2 points ago

Why are you not swimming in karma yet?

[–]8002reverse 6 points7 points ago

It's a mix of shoot the messenger and the resistance to unwelcome information that gets marked down. If the Google Map aerial view looks nice it gets marked up and visa versa. (⌐■_■)

[–]silly_pineapple 0 points1 point ago

SO THAT'S HOW FOUND_YOU DOES IT! IT'S ALL IN THE EXIF DATA!

[–]ageitgey 216 points217 points ago

Here's the car traffic in and out at the same location.

The left side with all the cars backed up are all the lanes headed into the US waiting to get through security. The right side of the picture with only a few lanes of (almost non-existent) traffic are people headed into Mexico. The difference in traffic is because the US has full security checks in place while Mexico has almost zero (though they have increased somewhat in the last two years). So cars in Mexico wait in line 2-3 hours every day to get into the US.

There are plenty of reasons that the US side of the border isn't developed much:

  1. No one wants to live right next to the border because of all the immigration/smuggling/police activity near the border.
  2. That area near the border is mostly an estuary and isn't really suitable for building. Much of it is government land. Tijuana's drainage actually flows back through the US to the ocean and routinely pollutes beaches on the US side after a rain storm.
  3. Even though the border area is technically within City of San Diego limits (trivia!) because of a crazy scheme that lets the city operate the crossing area, this location is about 15 miles from the actual city itself. You have to pass through San Ysidro, Chula Vista and National City to get to San Diego proper. It wouldn't be a very convient place to live.

The reason the Mexico side is so dense is because everyone wants easy access to the US. A lot of people live on the Mexico side where it is much cheaper and then commute to the US side for work/family/whatever. But as you might expect, the parts of Tijuana really close to the border fence are often really bad areas.

Here's another angle looking from the US side into Mexico.

[–]ajd007 52 points53 points ago

If it takes 2-3 hours just to enter the US from Mexico, how can people live in Mexico and commute to work in the US? That's a hell of a commute.

[–]feureau 69 points70 points ago

"KITT, activate the turbo boost!"

"Yes, Michael"

"I IMMEDIATELY REGRET THIS DECISION!"

[–]megustatexas 23 points24 points ago

that happened at dfw intl airport. remember it on the news. i think it was a drunk middle eastern lady

[–]FuckingDIY 12 points13 points ago

Did she survive?

[–]alle0441 8 points9 points ago

I landed at DFW about 2 hours before that happened. I wanted so bad to have seen it.

[–]daesoph 0 points1 point ago

IIRC my dad was actually pretty close to where this happened at the time. I think he was just through there like 20 minutes before.

[–]archfapper 8 points9 points ago

Hmm, those high-speed EZ-Pass lanes are getting faster and faster.

[–]xenoph2 11 points12 points ago

Fun fact, without implying anything: it was a woman driver.

[–]NullPoint84 2 points3 points ago

Too bad the camera wasn't pointed up and to the left, where the car took out a helicopter.

[–]tehCreator 0 points1 point ago

CAR VAULT

[–]bastawhiz 0 points1 point ago

This kills the commuter.

[–]nodontlethimin 30 points31 points ago

[–]flarpy 12 points13 points ago

Not everyone who could benefit from a SENTRI program card will qualify for one, though. There are long waiting times just to be able to apply for the program. Many don't qualify and are forced to wake up around 4 in the morning, if not earlier, to begin their daily 3 hour commute to work/school in the U.S.

Some will rent cheap/small/barebones places to sleep in San Diego that they stay at during the work week, only to return to Tijuana to spend time with friends and family on the weekends.

[–]nodontlethimin 1 point2 points ago

yeah I know that but I've always thought if you can't get the sentry it makes absolutely no sense to live in Tijuana and commute to SD. like you said, you can always find a cheap enough place in San Ysidro or Logan Heights or even deeper inland like City Heights. it's ghetto and still more expensive than TJ but it beats having to commute for 3 hours everyday.

[–]therealflinchy 0 points1 point ago

yeah, cost in fuel would outweigh rent savings >_<

[–]flarpy 0 points1 point ago

But also illegal and often uncomfortable or dangerous. Or even lonely.

[–]zingbat 13 points14 points ago

Actually many people do. I know that in El Paso there are plenty of Mexican nationals that make the daily trip to the U.S side for their jobs and then go back home every night. I believe its called the Sentry program. There is a special ID card given to those individuals.

[–]kamkazemoose 9 points10 points ago

Plenty of people have an hour commute. Even 2-3 hours really isn't that uncommon around LA and other cities with horrible traffic. If cost of living is that much cheaper in Mexico, I could see people choosing to live there.

[–]Reisgar 2 points3 points ago

I have to assume that the property values/cost of living are low enough that it's worth it. Otherwise, I can't make sense of it either.

[–]padmadfan 2 points3 points ago

You can rent a decent apartment within walking distance of the border for 200 dollars a month. Walking across the border usually takes only 30 minutes to an hour.

[–]Mel_Melu 1 point2 points ago

You can pay for a sort of fast pass to get in easily, that's how buses do it.

[–]ShinichiChiba 1 point2 points ago

It really is a nightmare. I work about 10 minutes north of the border and at around 4 the freeway starts to back up pretty nasty just from everyone commuting back home. Thousands of people make that commute daily.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point ago

Many walk. You don't have to take your car over.

[–]Menocu75 0 points1 point ago

People will do some crazy shit for a paycheck. My father commuted 4+ hrs daily when I was a kid, and he wasn't crossing borders.

[–]spartansheep 0 points1 point ago

there's actually a timewarp that was set up there as part of an old immigration policy back in the 50's. What would be a 3 minute drive takes 3 hours.

[–]PaulWR 26 points27 points ago

Holy shit... I just realized that Mexico was on the right and the US was on the left...

[–]handsome_manson 4 points5 points ago

i did not realise this until i got to your comment haha

[–]raoul_llamas_duke 6 points7 points ago

yeah, just figured that out too...blew my mind

[–]AKBWFC 0 points1 point ago

wait what? this true?!

[–]Hardly_Normal 1 point2 points ago

People also commute from Mexico to the US on daily basis because of taxes. Nexus, a government's right to tax you, doesn't exist in the US if you don't stay overnight. Immigrants who cross the boarder back home each night pay no federal/state income taxes to the US.

[–]FlippoManiacs 14 points15 points ago

are they really immirgants if they go home every night?

[–]Klexicon 0 points1 point ago

When I went to Tijuana about 6 years ago, all we had to do to walk INTO Mexico was go though 3 turnstiles, I didn't see a single cop or anything until we were already in mexico. On the way out we had to go through metal detectors, drug sniffing dogs, and x-ray machines as well as ID verification. It was interesting seeing the difference.

[–]mynamejesse1334 0 points1 point ago

I....I learned something today. Thank you kind sir or madam

[–]jaynone 18 points19 points ago

This picture is lovely but you can get shots that look like this flipped either way, or with equal development on both sides.

[–]CitizenPremier 8 points9 points ago

Where? In CA I've only seen the Mexican side developed.

[–]toddbass10 10 points11 points ago

El Paso.

[–]Vulkans 7 points8 points ago

As other people have stated: You can travel on the same stretch of road at the Juarez / El Paso border and it can go either way as you go.

Source: I live there.

[–]toddbass10 4 points5 points ago

Didn't see others comments. I did some work in El Paso a few years ago and was amazed at the difference between the two cities.

[–]Vulkans 6 points7 points ago

It's a bit of an unusual case though: On the western Mexican side of the Juarez - El Paso border what you see is the Anapra area which is basically the outskirts of the city and definitely the poorest sector you can find, full of cardboard and corrugated metal homes. Anyone who takes a look across will likely get the impression that the entire city is like that, however this is not the case.

Much of the industrial sector on the El Paso side is located next to Anapra, so it is quite likely that's where you were at the time.

To give the Mexican authorities some credit though, Anapra has improved considerably over the years but still looks very much rough around the edges.

[–]toddbass10 1 point2 points ago

I was doing work @ Del Sol Medical Center (installing their wireless network). As a side note, I did take a trip out to eat at Cattleman's Steakhouse. One of the best steaks I've ever had.

[–]fargin_bastiges 2 points3 points ago

No trip to El Paso is complete without driving out to Cattleman's.

[–]Vulkans 0 points1 point ago

Great place indeed, if you're ever out here again give Rudy's BBQ a visit as well, delicious ribs, brisket and pork sandwiches.

[–]fkwillrice 0 points1 point ago

anywhere in texas really

[–]jaynone 0 points1 point ago

El Paso for sure, although you have the river to separate the counties there.

[–]Jorgeragula05 76 points77 points ago

But which is which?

[–]redx1105 95 points96 points ago

San Ysidro, CA on the left. Tijuana on the right. I live in San Ysidro. Best of both worlds!

[–]flax41 77 points78 points ago

I wonder if he asked this as a joke assuming the US was the more developed side...

[–]Hanuman7591 28 points29 points ago

Thats what I, assuming the same thing, took it as.

[–]mediumdeviation 17 points18 points ago

I thought the right side was the US too, though the billboard saying "Genero Lopaz" gave it away.

[–]The_Adventurist 13 points14 points ago

I assumed the opposite. I was thinking, "of course Mexico wouldn't have a problem with getting right up close to that border".

[–]I_am_Mexico[!] 14 points15 points ago

I'm just trying to hug closer my good ol' buddy ol' pal, the USA.

[–]SUDDENLY_FECES 0 points1 point ago

Account date of creation. ಠ_ಠ

[–]littleimp 6 points7 points ago

The US side is obviously the one with the fence.

[–]redx1105 4 points5 points ago

Yeah I kinda realized this a little too late.

[–]shabutaru118 8 points9 points ago

I think its more about how mexico is extremely close to the border, like a metaphor on how mexicans would like to get into the us, and the left side being kind of deserted is the us trying to be unwelcoming.

[–]ducanexxx 1 point2 points ago

And who is who?

[–]ComputerisedCaveman 18 points19 points ago

Here's another international border in a built up area.

[–]raabbasi 3 points4 points ago

That's somewhere in Europe, correct? Due to the EU treaties, they don't have border separations.

[–]elpaw 6 points7 points ago

Netherlands & Germany, Vaals

[–]ComputerisedCaveman 4 points5 points ago

Yes, it's somewhere within Europe (look up Schengen). No queues, no visas, no NEXUS, no worries. You might be stopped by roving customs agents, but you're more likely to win the lottery. I found this picture after looking up 'border' on wikipedia; there's plenty of good examples there.

[–]rechlin 1 point2 points ago

In all fairness, we don't have anything like that between member states within the US, either. I realize Schengen extends past the EU, but it's fairly analogous.

[–]ComputerisedCaveman 1 point2 points ago

You're not quite right. Even though California has more debt than most countries, neither it nor the other 49 states are sovereign. The European Union consist of sovereign countries which in turn may consist of federate states. So if you're looking for an analogue to the USA, the Federal Republic of Germany is the best example.

And the Schengen agreement doesn't extend to all EU members. The United Kingdom and Ireland chose to keep to themselves. Or rather, the UK didn't want to take part and Ireland didn't want to close its border with the UK which is understandable.

Further, the Nordic countries have long let their citizens travel and take residence amongst themselves without needing passports, or even a picture ID. So Norway and Iceland decided to take part in the Schengen agreement without becoming members of the EU (they are signatories to other pan-European agreements as well).

In short: USA ≈ Germany; EU ≈ OAS + NAFTA; EU ≠ USA

[–]Roopa132 9 points10 points ago

It's a "border" between Germany and the Netherlands. (Germany on the right, Netherlands on the left). Western Europe has barely any recognizable borders (aside from toll booths here and there in crucial areas). You can often stand in two countries at once and there are some cities which are built across borders. One famous city is Straßburg (German) or Strasbourg (French) because that's where the European Parliament is based. You can just walk across a short bridge to get from France to Germany and vice versa. When there are big events in the city you'll see French police on one side of the river and German police on the other side.

[–]DaJoW 6 points7 points ago

There is a town in Belgium / Netherlands where a single building can be in both nations. There are cafés where one half closes earlier than the other due to different laws in the two countries.

[–]barthrh 2 points3 points ago

Here is another.

[–]The_Double 1 point2 points ago

Looks like germany-netherlands. The yellow licence plates are Dutch, the text on the house is german.

edit: the blue sign with stars indicates a border crossing.

[–]Anonymous3542 0 points1 point ago

Nogales?

[–]bigplansisay 7 points8 points ago

The US side is developed a couple miles north of that. It's not like it's the middle of nowhere.

[–]ZombieMime 8 points9 points ago

Bet most who look at this photo assume the dirt side is mexico...

[–]chris-martin 71 points72 points ago

What would extraterrestrials think of this shit?

"Why are you not utilizing this space right next to the city?"

"Because government."

[–]thunderplacefires 43 points44 points ago

probably just "KILL ALL HUMANS"

[–]karma_virus 17 points18 points ago

Rape them! Rape them with tentacles!

[–]theghostofme 17 points18 points ago

The extraterrestrials are Japanese? Actually, that really does a good job of explaining Japan.

[–]12_Baconed_Narwhals 11 points12 points ago

actually, it also explains quite a bit about extraterrestrials.

[–]CitizenPremier 18 points19 points ago

It's not that odd, most eusocial animals have separate territories.

[–]The_Turbinator 3 points4 points ago

On Earth.

[–]CitizenPremier 8 points9 points ago

If it's evolved here, it will probably evolve there too...

[–]sgtpppr -2 points-1 points ago

Have you been to Tijuana?

[–]Badideanarwhals 0 points1 point ago

Actually, government is the reason that the Mexico side is developed. It is so fence around the border because of the border.

[–]Un-needed_Edit 169 points170 points ago

[–]NolanRoss 72 points73 points ago

Needs way more contrast.

[–]Un-needed_Edit 147 points148 points ago

[–]NolanRoss 74 points75 points ago

Oh yeah. Now add Freddie Mercury and lasers.

[–]Un-needed_Edit 226 points227 points ago

[–]Dr_Wreck 60 points61 points ago

Your name is 'un-needed' edit, and yet you take requests.

I'm not sure what to believe about you.

[–]Xiaz89 15 points16 points ago

I guess needed != requested/wanted.

[–]kingster20 3 points4 points ago

Who needs a picture of freddy mercury and lasers?

[–]ollew 9 points10 points ago

who doesn't?

[–]Dr_Wreck 1 point2 points ago

The guy who asked for it.

[–]Wuvluv 4 points5 points ago

I find that there is a lack of lens flare here.

[–]Toribor 20 points21 points ago

[–]long_wang_big_balls 0 points1 point ago

wipes tear

Beautiful.

[–]jackskidney 5 points6 points ago

Is it possible to get a ton of contrast on half but none/less in Mexico?

[–]e216 25 points26 points ago*

http://i.imgur.com/JyXpx.jpg

//EDIT: Wrong side. Silly Austrian. I'll do it again.

//EDIT #2: http://i.imgur.com/teO6x.jpg

[–]allwaysnice 11 points12 points ago

But...the Mexican side has all the contrast now!

[–]jackskidney 29 points30 points ago

First they take all the jobs, now their leaching the pigment out of our country.

[–]mattbridel 7 points8 points ago

i cant wait to see what happens next!

[–]e216 24 points25 points ago

[–]Neosilver 0 points1 point ago

Is your name an anagram of what I think it is?

[–]LBFrost 8 points9 points ago

Wrong side. Mexico's on the right.

[–]ajleece 8 points9 points ago

Really? Shit.

[–]jackskidney 1 point2 points ago

Those are both great/hilarioussauce. My thanks to you.

[–]ownworldman 0 points1 point ago

Oh, my eyes!

[–]heavyfuture121 24 points25 points ago

This account. I like it.

[–]megatom0 3 points4 points ago

I see George Lucas has become a redditor now.

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points ago

Finally a novelty account I can get on board with!

[–]abl0ck0fch33s3 6 points7 points ago

actually, while admittedly not necessary, i feel like this edit actually improved the original picture.

[–][deleted] 14 points15 points ago

[–]dessicatedfetus 22 points23 points ago

A guy I work with told me about how a neighbor of his got killed by a cartel because he witnessed an assassination.

a guy I went to school with was really bummed out because some guys tried kidnapping his friend for ransom and his friend got shot in the head twice.

my grandfather got hit by a truck there in the 80s coming home from work and he got left to die in the street.

your city keeps the beaches north of it shut down half the time because of polution, and over a thousand people a month got killed at the beginning of 08 because of the drug war.

you have a very strange definition of beauty.

[–]dadkisser 27 points28 points ago

Tijuana can be fun, but only because it is undeniably a lawless disgusting shithole that no self respecting person would enjoy soberly. Fucking dirty ass city full of criminals and toothless beggars. I'm sure I'll be downvoted for this, but it doesn't make it any less true. If you've ever been there, you know I'm right.

[–]_angel 6 points7 points ago*

Tijuana is like the Alabama of Mexico. Of course it is a shit hole.

When I went to Guadalajara to visit a friend the guy at the gate to the housing community wouldn't let me in even if I had a pass because the day before a repo lawyer of some sort was assassinated.

And coming back from the saloon/country club (people in tuxedos smoking cigars all over the place while playing dominos) there was this drunk driver that drove his car into the bushes and went to bed for the night like that. Everyone was laughing over the whole thing. No one thought negatively regarding the subject. I'm not sure if drunk driving is though to be hilarious in general, or if it was ok because it was private property.

Mexico is beautiful, but if you've only been to border towns, then you haven't really been to Mexico.

[–]Wammy 17 points18 points ago

Mexico is beautiful, but if you've only been to border towns, then you haven't really been to Mexico.

I'm Mexican and I approve this message.

[–]I_am_Mexico[!] 4 points5 points ago

I'm México and I say every city has its large "border town" parts, it's a matter of choice, is that México? or only the "good parts"? Let's not pretend, it's both, half the country is poor and there's plenty of shitty places and things going on.

[–]_angel 0 points1 point ago

I've been to tons of small villages in Mexico, from southern Mexico up, and in my mind the border towns are vastly different than poor villages.

[–]omniphage 0 points1 point ago

Comparing Tijuana to any part of the United States is impossible. Tijuana is a shithole, Alabama is rustic but otherwise friendly. You don't get people sewing faces onto soccer balls in Alabama, that's reserved for the animals on the other side of the fence.

[–]_angel 1 point2 points ago

Hangings, torture, murder in general, inbreeding, and forced ignorance, all from a community that chose to do stuff like that in masses.

The drug cartel is a limited number of people. It isn't the entire community. The cartel was created by the US' policies.

Can you really say Tijuana is that much worse?

[–]dessicatedfetus 0 points1 point ago

over 1000 homicides in january, february, and march of 08.

[–]_angel 0 points1 point ago

Holy shit. That is more than double the murder rate of Oakland, CA.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point ago

Yes, yes, death is present in my city and thus is not beautiful, yes, that makes sense. The beach is never close either. I'm able to see beyond the flaws of my city. I'm sure in your city every one is a good samaritan.

[–]tbscotty68 8 points9 points ago

I've driven that road many times. Once a firetruck that looked 40-50 years old, overtook me on the downhill stretch, but when it started uphill it couldn't maintain any speed, so everyone passed it back on the uphill stretch and that continued two or three times.

[–]_angel 5 points6 points ago

It is good you guys let it pass. Momentum matters a shit ton in old/crappy vehicles. The more speed on the downhill the better.

[–]tbscotty68 0 points1 point ago

Yeah, I felt really weird passing him back, but he was going 20 miles under the speed limit.

Minecraft Biomes, IRL.

[–]Cuzimwhite 5 points6 points ago

Well im sorry but as a fat white guy that dont look hard to cross at all lol.

[–]Anonymous3542 17 points18 points ago

The border patrol swarms that area like bees on a beehive. You'd be caught within minutes if not seconds. The actual wall isn't really meant to stop you, just to hinder you (especially by preventing any vehicles from crossing). Otherwise, it would have to be much bigger and more fortified. As long as they can delay you long enough for the border patrol to find you, there's no need for the Black Gate of Mordor.

[–]GordieLaChance 13 points14 points ago

I have it on good authority that Mexicans are really sick of fat white guys trying to hop the border and eat all their delicious tacos.

[–]SnuggleBear 0 points1 point ago

"Mexican Border Patrol" is an oxymoron.

[–]tamponlollypops 1 point2 points ago

that's where the border patrol comes into action.

[–][deleted] 7 points8 points ago

What is the level of US demand for land next to the border fence? none? ok.

[–]GothIfYouMustRD 1 point2 points ago

There's a town near where I live. One side of the road is full of nice houses and green grass, on the other you have 'Dero Town'. Pretty much the opposite.

[–]Towelie350 1 point2 points ago

Riposte!

[–]Hirrvi 1 point2 points ago

haha you´re on the wrong side xD

[–]Lestefania 4 points5 points ago

Fuck Genaro Lopez...

[–][deleted] 7 points8 points ago

Reminiscent of the contrast between East and West Germany, no?

Very cool photo.

[–]gala385 9 points10 points ago

Mexico is on the right, dude.

[–]timoleon 1 point2 points ago

Except that they had fences and walls to keep people in ...

[–]blade2000 1 point2 points ago

Must be Sunday. Time for the weekly repost of this pic. Hooray!

RECONCILE EDGES

[–]Xxslash -1 points0 points ago

Mexican here, I came here to see what kind of racist/foxnews comments would be here. But I have to say, well played redeLdit, well played. Upvotes for everyone!

[–]Omegle -2 points-1 points ago

because "mexican" is a human race?

[–]ShinichiChiba 0 points1 point ago

That place in the top left is a huuuge outlet center, pretty cool and that busy road right on the side of the border is the main way to the coast and down to rosarito. The ocean isn't too far behind the photographer.

[–]knusperknugen 0 points1 point ago

where is this? San Diego - Tijuana?

[–]Padrfe 0 points1 point ago

Looks like the grass is greener.

[–]powerwindows 0 points1 point ago

I prefer living near the Canadian/US border

[–]isot0pes 0 points1 point ago

How do other borders compare?

[–]HayHaxor 0 points1 point ago

Hmm which is which??

[–]Coolfuckingname 0 points1 point ago

My friend used to live just off the photo to the left in a trailer.

She used to have rocks thrown at her from the mexico border. Maybe with slingshots.

Its a quiet isolated area.

[–]97nachotv 0 points1 point ago

The U.S. is on the left, right?

[–]sagreer70 0 points1 point ago

I can see why the city on the left was called "the Whale's Vagina" by the Germans.

[–]sabu632 0 points1 point ago

I would rainbow road this place.

[–]porkshopper 0 points1 point ago

I dont know what side looks better

[–]ordig -3 points-2 points ago

Borders are retarded.

[–]deadendcruiser 0 points1 point ago

Well this isn't El Paso and Juarez for sure. I lived on a hill and could see Mexico from my backyard. It was nothing but shanty houses, it was sad dude.

American TV does not do most of Mexico justice as to how not to different it is from other places... Mexico is usually depicted as a desert waste land but you have to travel more inland to see desert.

[–]larrykins 8 points9 points ago

Actually American TV depicts Mexico as being a cartel riddled wasteland. Which, in reality isn't really far off.

[–]e-socrates 0 points1 point ago

Poor USA, so far from God and so near to Mexico

[–]warpfield 0 points1 point ago

The US-Canada border in Pt. Roberts is similar. Except it's the States that is poor.

[–]Anonymous3542 0 points1 point ago*

Point Roberts' border is a joke though. This is a massive, heavily fortified border. Also, US is on the left, Mexico on the right, in case that wasn't clear.

[–]r81984 0 points1 point ago

That is because the landowners purposely will not let the land be developed more than a golf course. The poorer people live on the canada side.

[–]Fabsun 0 points1 point ago

so which one is mexico?

[–]lizardking99 2 points3 points ago

The one on the right

[–]MoonRazer -1 points0 points ago

That's a surprisingly meaningful shot. So..which side is which?

[–]crookers 1 point2 points ago

US is the sparse side, Mexico is the built up side.
