NOPE. My geometry/trig education in middle school went about as far as "The triangle has 3 sides, 3 angles, the angles add up to 180 degrees, and if you use the pythagorean theorem, you can find the hypotenuse of a right triangle," with some stuff about other shapes and formulas. If I hadn't taken Algebra I early, it would've been even less.

I mean you don't really go into much depth with trig until Precalc, at least for my school. I would have been able to recognize cosine at like 8th grade Alg 1, but the more complex stuff came later.

I spent forever thinking in terms of angles a,b,c and sides A,B,C... sinb = a/c and tanb = a/b so sinb/tanb=(a/c)/(a/b) = (a2 ) /(bc) .... bc = B.ill C.osby? does not get and is not sure if my trig is correct

Sin= a/b and tan = a/c, so that means that cos = c/b. sinB/tanB = (a/b)/(a/c) = (a/b)(c/a) = (c/b) = cosB. Cos-B. Cosby.

Wait, isn't c always supposed to refer to the hypotenuse though? Confusing nomenclature had me thinking that the joke was in the initials B.C. Also lol dammit I did my division flipping incorrectly. Should've been (a/c)/(a/b) = (a/c)x(b/a)=ab/ac= b/c which then = cosb so ahhhhha gotcha. Didn't make that last jump there ;_;

Well yes, c is generally the hypotenuse, but I just assigned them randomly. In my case b was the hypotenuse, a was the side opposite the angle, and c was the side adjacent to the angle.
