To make your prom the best for you and your girlfriend, you should do everything you can to make her regret going with you. This will cement things and make you look very mature. Instead of trying something new or making the best of it, just be a complete dick about it. That'll teach her to try and get you to do stuff! Also, you should absolutely expect her to do things for you or ever compromise with her because you're both so mature.

As a girl who had a lame inconsiderate dickbag boyfriend take her to her senior prom: Use this as your first introduction to putting the girl you care about before yourself. My ex parked himself in the lobby of the hotel we had the prom at and did not talk to anyone, including me, or dance with me once the entire time because he was too cool for school about the whole thing. I was so upset. Obviously now it doesn't matter, but it's a big deal to girls. So don't be a dickbag.

I'll trade senior prom dates with you.

I basically had a blind date (we met twice before in passing), but the girl who set us up had known me for years, so I trusted her judgement. That was a mistake. Our prom was on a boat in NYC and she slept the entire hour bus ride there. Once there, I tried moving a table so we could sit with our mutual friend (as well as the rest of the people who I was friends with), but she said no and sat with at a table with a couple where the guy was about to ship out for Afghanistan. She didn't want to eat, dance, or go out on deck despite my asking several different times. When the boat mercifully docked and the prom ended, she slept the entire way back.

She was absolutely gorgeous though, so I got nothing but high fives from my buddies. Oh well.

Yeah... my date told me the morning of prom that she was going to post-prom with another guy. While at prom, she danced with me one time at the beginning, and then I couldn't even find her most of the rest of the night. She totally blew me off.

She apologized a year later after we went to college, which helped I guess, but still made for a rough senior prom.

What's so bad about prom?

It's cliche and overrated, but isn't that what high school is all about?

I remember when I went to prom, they played 'Time of Your Life' by Greenday and everyone put their arms around each other and swayed to the rhythm. It is a great memory I will never forget.

Just go and enjoy it. It'll most likely be better than expected.

Probably true, but don't forget - limos, after parties, prom tickets are up to about $50 in most places (here in Maine, anyway)... Expenses definitely add up.

I'm not saying you can't do it for less than $1000, I'm just saying that figure isn't all because of girls. There are plenty of guys who are outlandish as well.
